100% worth the upgrade

I wasn’t sure how much better the 4K release would be over the already excellent Blu-ray, but Criterion really hit this one out of the park. I found myself mesmerized by the incredible colors and extra amounts of detail visible in the frames. Some of the close-ups are jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

This is a first rate 4K transfer. The image is often quite gorgeous and the stereo sound mix is great too. I’m very happy with Kino’s release.

The steelbook artwork is absolutely beautiful and ranks as one of my all time favorites. The 4K transfer of the film is gorgeous and the sound is perfectly suitable for the type of film.

Don't Forget to Watch the Big Giveaway!

Shout Factory's release of Halloween III on 4k disc, from a fresh restoration, was a big surprise, and a welcome one. I honestly never thought this film would receive that kind of treatment. The end result is a beautiful image that really allows the film to shine. Halloween III has never looked this good before, and with the new Dolby Atmos mix, has never sounded better either. Although it has been widely panned for being called Halloween without Michael Myers being in it, it still has the look and feel of those first two films. The story has some plot holes in it, but overall I would say it's a fun little horror film that, in my opinion, makes a great book end companion piece to the first two films.

The most terrifying night of the year continues in this chilling sequel to the seminal slasher. Psychotic-and seemingly unstoppable-killing machine Michael Myers stalks the Haddonfield hospital where teenager Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is recuperating. Can Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) prevent Myers from engaging in some Inchexploratory surgeryInch of his own? With Charles Cyphers, Lance Guest. 92 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Subtitles English. Three-disc set.

Halloween II 4K

Shout Factory's release of Halloween II on 4k disc, from a fresh restoration, was a big surprise, and a welcome one. I honestly never thought this film would receive that kind of treatment. The end result is a beautiful image that really allows the film to shine. Halloween II has never looked this good before, and with the new Dolby Atmos mix, has never sounded better either. Halloween II may not be as good of a film as the original, but like the original, I've been watching it regularly since the 80's. It has that special nostalgic feel to it that makes me watch it every year. It's a great companion to the original, especially now with both films receiving top notch restorations and 4k presentations.

John Carpenter's groundbreaking shocker that opened the floodgates for hundreds of imitators stills packs a scare-raising punch. Fifteen years after being placed in an asylum for killing his sister on Halloween, maniacal Michael Myers escapes and returns to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, in search of new victims. Jamie Lee Curtis (her film debut), Donald Pleasence, Nancy Loomis, and P.J. Soles star. 91 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Subtitles English. Three-disc set.

Finally!

I've been watching Halloween regularly since the 80's and I've seen it on every format, including laserdisc. This, in my opinion, is the absolute best presentation of the film. I was very disappointed by the last 4K disc release from Lionsgate, because the colors were all stripped away and the whole thing looked off. Shout Factory remedies that with a new 4K scan of the original camera negative and the whole image is beautiful, with colors being where they should be. I love the new Dolby Atmos mix, which creates a wider, more detailed sound mix that I found to be more engaging than any previous sound mix I've heard.

The Thing in 4K!

I've loved this film since I was a kid and I have to say this is the absolute best presentation of the film ever put on video. It looks like a brand new film with excellent detail, solid blacks, and an excellent range of colors. The sound mix wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but it certainly is no slouch. It is an older film made during a time when sound mixes were often the least funded element of the studios. Highly recommended!

The 4K disc is absolutely a must own if you like Scott Pilgrim. Not only are the visuals detailed and punchy (pun intended), but the Atmos sound mix is very dynamic and immersive. It elevates the viewing experience to a whole new level.

The 4K UHD release of In The Line of Fire is absolutely the best presentation of the film on any video format so far. The picture and sound quality are top-notch, enhancing the viewing experience quite a bit.

I am convinced!

Absolutely fantastic unit! I needed to upgrade my Sonos AMP for a proper AVR due to lack of HDMI ports.
Paired with KEF LS50 Meta bookshelf speakers along with KEF KC62 Sub this thing performs great and supports any type of modern decoding. Lack of 1440p support for PS5 (can do 1080p and 4K) is not heart breaking but I haven't seen AVRs on the market that support it natively.
Integration with Apple TV, Turntable and other stuff is fantastic too and QMS, auto switching and Audyssey (yes I would prefer DIRAC live but at this price point is impossible) is fantastic and overall I am very happy.
Keep in mind that due to slim form factor, you only get 50W per channel so make sure your speakers are efficient. I keep my volume at between 50-65 (out of 98 available) and eventually will add a center speaker and remaining speakers to complete 7.2 setup.
Even initial setup and confirmation was great, app is responsive and all on screen setup and settings menus are in 4K which is welcome as well.
HEOS works great for music and with multi zone and multi sub support you can really create interesting setups.
Again, coming from SONOS AMP which was simple to operate but lacked advanced control for its phantom center channel - often vocals in movies would end up muffled due to poor mastering or mastering in general for surround only.
Cinema 70s improved the clarity to a point where in the near future I dont need to even look into a center channel.

Speaking from experience with a previous model of the Marantz slimline receiver, adding the separate speakers really elevates the experience, even if you think it sounds great without a center or surround. I was floored when I heard the difference. I have all Martin Logan speakers and the receiver makes them sing. This new model has more pre-outs than mine does, so if you have large speakers and want more power to drive them, then you can connect one or more external amplifiers made by any company via a pair of interconnect cables. I currently have an external stereo amp from PS Audio to drive my main speakers, because they are big and need the power, with all other speakers driven by the Marantz, and it sounds wonderful. This new slimline model offers more than previous models, so I'm seriously considering buying this new model.

Can you please confirm if this unit has Hdams? Marantz website does not list hdam support for the 70s. But Best Buy's description does.

On the Marantz website under Performance Technologies in the Tech Specs for this receiver is lists HDAM as No.
