I bought this because some friends and I were playing Remnant 2 on the PS5 (which is an amazing game, btw) and I was curious about the prequel. The game itself functions well, but you can instantly tell the polygon count has been reduced to make it run on Switch. I’ve since played a the original on ps5 and noted some of the cutscenes are missing and the movement overall is not as good. If you’ve only got a switch, it’s fine but the ps4/ps5/xbox versions are better.

I guess the caveat of this game is that it plays like a Rocksteady “Arkham” game, but has some limitations due to online play. So there are trade offs I assume you could overlook if you were playing with your friends online, but I wouldn’t know- all my friends ditched out on it when the first whiffs of bad reviews came out. On your own, it’s very “meh.”

In this narrative-driven, third-person survival horror game set 300 years in the future, the player will take on the role of Jacob Lee ~ a victim of fate thrown into Black Iron Prison, a maximum security penitentiary located on Jupiter~s moon, Callisto. When inmates begin to transform into monstrous creatures, the prison is thrown into chaos. To survive, Jacob must battle his way to safety to escape Black Iron Prison, while uncovering the dark and disturbing secrets buried beneath the surface of Callisto. Using a unique blend of shooting and close-quarters combat, Jacob will need to adapt his tactics to combat the rapidly evolving creatures while scavenging to unlock new weapons, gear, and abilities to outrun the growing threat and escape the horrors of Jupiter~s Dead Moon.

An incomplete experience.

It’s basically Dead Space with melee controls. I really like the setting, graphics and general gameplay, but this is like half a game.
General problems;
-the way the melee controls are set up, you don’t have much in the way of maneuverability. This becomes an issue when the game starts throwing multiple enemies at you.
-there are two bosses, one you fight in a human and then mutated form and a two headed guy you fight around five times.
- it has a pretty rigid upgrade system and doesn’t give you a ton of credits to upgrade gear. It would have been cool (and easy) if they had given you a game+ mode to go back an start out with all your upgraded gear, but hey who cares about replayability?
-speaking of which, it ends on a cliffhanger, which you won’t see the ending to without buying an additional $29.99 DLC that’s not coming out until this summer.
