I'm done with knock-offs!
on March 4, 2020
Posted by: NomadingNick
After trying so many knock-offs that claim they are as good as OEM, but really they last about half the time as the OEM, I decided to spend $80 for this battery and it's worth the money! It's so nice just to carry around 2 Sony OEM batteries vs 4-5 knock offs!
Listen here, if you have money to buy an A7III, A7II, A6600, A7R, A9, etc. then please, why are you being cheap and buying knock-off batteries? Just spend $80 ya cheap-skate! I've learned my lesson.
Also, there is a small chance knock-off batteries can disrupt your electrical current in your camera!

The best budget telephoto lens!
on March 4, 2020
Posted by: NomadingNick
This is the best budget telephoto lens i've ever used!
With that being said I finally saved up to buy the 70-350mm G series so I sold off this lens.
What I can tell you is that for social media you probably can't tell the difference between the two lens (Instagram compresses images) and with images that small you wont be able to tell the difference. If you learn to shoot Raw and learn how to edit photos then both lens are pretty much the same to the average viewer!

Perfect for the Price
on March 4, 2020

Not the sharpest lens for Sony's APS-C lineup however the best value for it's price. Great for vlogging especially with OSS!
I barely use it anymore because I finally saved up for the powerful Sony 16-55mm F/2.8 G lens, however I still use this lens as my B lens!

#1 Portrait Lens for Sony APS-C
on March 3, 2020
Posted by: NomadingNick
I have owned, borrowed, or rented 20-30 lenses for the Sony E mount. This Sigma 56mm is the absolute best portrait lens, no doubt! It's even better than the Sony 85mm F/1.8 FE. Probably because the FE is meant for full frame so I found the Sigma is sharper on the APSC camera since the Sigma 56mm is meant for APSC only.
If you like portraits don't even think twice! Buy this lens now.

Customize your camera setup with this Sigma 16mm contemporary lens for Sony E mirrorless cameras. The wide-angle design features a 24mm equivalent focal length, capturing your subjects beautifully while enhancing the perspective of each shot. A multilayer coating prevents ghosting and flares, providing crisp image capture, while the dust- and splash-resistant design is ideal for outdoor use. With its ultra-fast aperture, this Sigma 16mm contemporary lens excels in low lighting conditions.

The best wide angle prime, hands down
on March 3, 2020
Posted by: NomadingNick
Verified Purchase:Yes
This is the absolute best wide angle prime (24mm equivalent on a full frame). Fast aperture, super sharp, can't ask for more. I stopped using it because I bought the Sony 16-55mm zoom however if you're not a zoom person than this is the absolute best wide angle prime for Sony's APS-C lineup, period. Don't even second guess it.
It's about 20x better than that Sony 10-18mm wide angle zoom, and blows every other prime out of the water.

My favorite travel prime lens!
on March 3, 2020
Posted by: NomadingNick
When I first started photography I bought both this Sigma and the Sony 35mm F/1.8 (APSC). I had both because I couldn't decide as a new photographer and they were the highest rated lens for around this focal length (they still are in terms of primes for Sony E APSC). At first they pretty much looked the same to me. One was slightly wider in terms of focal length, & one was a tad closer and more intimate so I kept both.
Fast forward about 8 months later I finally sold the Sony 35mm F/1.8 because I found myself never taking the Sony anymore. At first I only used the Sony because of it's size, with a winter jacket it was pocketable which I loved. Long story short, the more I was shooting pictures and traveling, editing photos wether in Lightroom or Luminar 3 (now 4), I couldn't believe how different these two lenses are.
The Sigma just blows the Sony away in terms of everything. Image quality, sharpness, bokeh, colors, subject separation at the same F stop is much better on the Sigma which is surprising because it's a shorter focal length. The Sigma wide open is even sharper than the Sony stopped down to F/2.8!
When something is that good I don't even care about the awesome size of the Sony 35mm anymore. Plus, it's not like the Sigma 30mm is huge, it's still compact and light enough (I mean, we're APSC users, not full framers)!
The Sigma F/1.4 will help a lot (shooting higher shutter speeds, or even 2/3 to 1 full stop lower ISO!) vs Sony's F/1.8 with OSS btw. I would go with the Sigma even if your camera doesn't have IBIS (In-body Image Stabilization).
I think if you're a beginner and you're shooting stills (pictures), then it is hard to kinda tell between the two just like I once did. But for the enthusiast, pro, or intermediate shooter this is a no brainer and go for the Sigma.
Also, if you're a beginner you should be buying the cheaper lens anyway.
The only reason I can see why anyone would get the Sony f1.8 is if they're only doing casual video and their camera doesn't have IBIS, therefore the OSS would help. However, 35mm on APSC is not wide enough for me for video. If you're doing video pro work, wether it's for a company or recording high school football games every Friday then both OSS and IBIS is very poor for daily/weekly video recording, I would get a gimble instead, and in which case go get the Sigma over the Sony. Back to that Sigma again! lol
Yes, I know this is a very old comparison now. Anyway, this is my still-go to travel prime! (going to 6 continents this year! Yes I said continents, not countries!).

My new favorite travel lens!
on March 3, 2020
Posted by: NomadingNick
I used to travel with the Sigma Trio for Sony APS-C: 16mm, 30mm, 56mm F/1.4 and the quality was amazing. However, being the heavy traveler that I am (up to 6 continents this year, yes, I said continents, not countries!) I need something more travel friendly. Switching between 3 primes was just soooo annoying. At one point I think I swapped lenses 20-30 times in one hour.
This 16-55mm G lens gives me just as good as image quality and now the extra convenience. Also for travel, I found myself shooting a lot of environmental portraits at F/2.8 - F/5.6. For example if the background is too blurred (i.e. Eiffel Tower or the Egyptian pyramids) then it doesn't show the beautiful scenery. Therefore I am not missing out much on the Sigma's F/1.4 at all.
Now all I need is for Sony to make a APSC super wide angle zoom version 2 (update the Sony E 10-18mm f/4 to a GM or G series!)

Best Travel Camera Ever!
on March 2, 2020
Posted by: NomadingNick
I did about 5 months of research deciding on what to upgrade from my old a6000. It came down to 3 cameras, the a6600, the Fujifilm X-T3, and the Sony A7 mark III.
After much research, hundreds of hours of youtube, rentals, borrowing lenses, etc, here are my reasons:
SONY A7III:
-In the end full frame was just too cumbersome. The weight didn't bother me at all, but the size did. I am a heavy, heavy traveler (a travel blogger). Let me tell you, I just finished a trip to 3 different continents (not including USA where I live) in the month of January. I couldn't imagine lugging around the A7III with the Tamron 28-75mm (what I would've bought) in my small/medium sized backpack; I wouldn't have room to fit anything else! In addition, the Tamron 28-75mm isn't wide enough on the 28mm end, therefore I would 1. Need to buy the Tamron 17-28mm in addition to, or 2. Need to buy the Sigma 24-70mm instead which is bigger and heavier than the Tamron 28-75mm! I've been to probably over 30 countries and i've learned over the years to travel light! It has made my trips so much more enjoyable.
-So what about that awesome Bokeh and shallow depth of field everyone loves about Full Frame? For a travel photographer i've learned that too much bokeh is actually bad! Full frame is great for actual portraits, but realistically HORRIBLE for environmental portraits. When there is too much bokeh you don't see the surroundings therefore missing the point of that travel destination (not telling the story of the image).
-Spend all the money to travel to Japan, but can't even see Mt Fuji in the background of the portrait because it is too blurred? Travel to Egypt, but can't tell that's a pyramid in the background because you're shooting at F1.4 in full frame?
-I found that even on APS-C I prefer to shoot anywhere from F2.8 to F8 for environmental portraits.
-Full frame lenses are $$$!
-So full frame cameras was out of the question. APS-C for the win here (in my situation, yours could be quite different).
FUJIFILM X-T3 (APS-C):
At one point I pretty much settled on this camera. I played with this camera and the dials were just superb and it made shooting not just easy, but very fun (unlike that cheap plastic dial on the a6600). There is something very classic about all the dials on top that made this camera so fun to shoot with. I had used this (borrowed) camera with the Fuji 16-55mm F2.8 and it was sharp, color science was great, shoots at 4K/60, overall better APSC lens selection than sony APSC lenses, higher resolution, 2x SD card slot, higher FPS than Sony, AF-C custom settings, faster shutter speed (1/8000 compared to a6600's 1/4000), bigger AND better electronic viewfinder (EVF), and I can go on and on. So, there was only a few Fuji deal breakers that made me go with the Sony a6600...
SONY A6600 (APS-C):
In no particular order these are the reasons I ended up with the Sony a6600 in the end:
1. IBIS (in-body image stabilization).
1A. About 30-40% of my photos are at night or in dark places (cities, restaurants, lounges, etc.). When you travel blog you also blog food as well as it goes with the territory. And what are most restaurants like? DARK! IBIS in real life shooting helps me gain anywhere from 1 to sometimes 3 stops of extra light, that is huge.
1B. I shoot a ton of street photography at night, depending on the composition night time just sometimes looks better than day time.
1C. My favorite Sony (or third party) APS-C lenses do not have Image stabilization (Optical SteadyShot): Sony 16-55mm F/2.8 G, Sigma 16mm F/1.4, & Sigma 30mm F/1.4. Yes, full frame would have better low light capability but the trade off isn't worth the much higher cost nor the size for me.
2. Snappier, better autofocus than the X-T3, and eye-AF is just phenomenal. Ok, now you're wondering why an advance hobbyist photographer needs super, duper AF? You're right, I DON'T! But you know who does? The girlfriend who travels with me and knows nothing about cameras. If I want her to take awesome pictures of me I need easy AF to make her life easier so I don't spend wasted time explaining what buttons to push (a problem we ran into several times with the a6000). The AF is just better than the X-T3 for her, although I think both the a6600 and the X-T3 would suit me fine.
3. Smaller form factor. The X-T3 (and now X-T4) is small enough, but the A6xxx series is just even a step smaller! The X-T4 is almost the same size as the A7 III. Again, weight is no problem for me, but fitting things in my small to medium backpack does. Also, the small girlfriend can hold the camera better.
4. Some added pluses that weren't the deciding factor but nice to have: Bigger battery, better grip for my hands, flip up screen.
In the end all 3 cameras are amazing and I consider myself lucky to have all these first world problems on which camera to choose from. There is no camera better than the other, but yet there is a camera that will fit your needs better than others. So, find your problems and SOLVE IT!
My problems were:
1. Needed IBIS because of all the low light I shoot in. a6600 solved it.
2. Needed a light form factor because I am set on traveling light as a frequent flyer. a6600 solved it.
3. Needed amazing AF so the camera-incompetent GF can use it. a6600 solved it.
Your situation could be 180 degrees different than mine! Hope this long book helped! lol.

Very sturdy case! It fit very well for my Sony a6000 with the kit lens (16-50mm).
I actually returned it because my main lens is now the Sigma 30mm F1.4 which doesn't fit too well in this case.
If you have the a6000 with the 16-50mm kit lens then this will fit perfectly!

Does this work with Sony A7r IV?

Yes it does work with any Sony full frame E mount camera, however you will have to use the APSC Sigma 56mm lens as a Super 35mm (APSC crop mode) for it to work properly. No other camera works better than the Sony A7R IV for crop mode!

Yes it will, but you will have to use the A7III in super 35mm mode (APSC crop mode). That brings it down to only about 10 megapixels per picture FYI.
