Great usb c to a hub

This travel hub works perfectly. It has 4 usb - a slots and on usb - c connector. I purchased a computer which had 1 usb A port and 2 usb c ports. The problem was that I had a mouse, printer and blu ray drive to connect as well (and the blu ray drive needs two usb A ports for power purposes). This hub is a literal life saver. It’s very easy to use - open the box, plug it into a usb c port and plug your usb a devices into the other side. Voila! It’s lightweight for use at home or travel. No complaints, great quality and all devices work perfectly. Great value and great product!

A Piece of Art that is a Hard Watch
on December 28, 2020

Verified Purchase:Yes
Well...this is a challenging and interesting movie to review.
First, technically, the Blu Ray encode is nice with solid picture (no banding) and good ambient sound, especially when outside on the streets of NYC. Also, the soundtrack is used to an innovative and effective means here. More on that in a second.
As a piece of entertainment...I can't recommend this film. It isn't fun to watch and it doesn't even really follow the tenets of quality storytelling. It is really more like a reality show or a slice of life.
As a piece of art, I HIGHLY recommend this film (in case you were wondering about the five stars). This movie immerses its viewer in a life. Life doesn't come in three acts with character development and artistically designed shots that are magically lit. Entertaining movies are, but this isn't that.
This is how the visual storytelling medium can transfer our attention and our soul into the life of a despicable character - sex, drugs, swindling, swearing...yeah, it's all there so keep the kids and those with gentle sensibilities away.
But if you want to experience the power of film and how it can transfer our very being to another place and another life, there hasn't been anything like Uncut Gems in a long time, if ever.
Part of that is the soundtrack. The soundtrack is used to GREAT effect to convey information about the experience...in essence, the character lives life in a panic attack and the aggressive, loud sounds that accompany the film put US in the same, agitated state. You won't be comfortable or even calm by the time the film has ended, but this film will stay with you because it took you somewhere many of us have never been.
The other strong element of this film is...hold your breath...Adam Sandler. Mr. Sandler challenged himself to act outside his comfort zone and he disappears in the part. This isn't Adam Sandler as we have known him and his commitment to the art and bringing his A game to this project is commendable. He makes this movie.
Oh yeah...and IF you care about these things (heh heh and you know you do) it's got an amazing slipcover. A black matte finish with silver foil letters. Simple but so effective.
So if you are an adult that can handle extensive swearing, non stop swindling and graphic sex AND you want to experience a movie that will make you feel things like most other movies won't even dare to try and achieve, this film is for you. If you want to experience some art (as opposed to Disney or WB blockbusters, and not that there's anything wrong with those...) than this is a strong recommendation.

If only the Reindeer had more to do...
on December 26, 2020

Ok...Christmas movies can fall into one of two categories really:
1) Schmaltzy that makes us cry and believe in the magic of the season OR
2) Irreverent that through raunchy humor or scary horror makes FUN of the magic of the season
There IS room for both! I like tearing up and going awwwwww as much as the next fella but sometimes you just want to poke a few funny holes in mistletoe, ho ho ho and presents under the tree.
So...Office Christmas Party. It features:
a) Jennifer Anniston, who is pretty AND funny
b) Jason Bateman, who can be hilarious but is inconsistent
c) a Reindeer at the office
Those three things, along with quite a few other things (naked Xeroxing, rappelling down the side of a skyscraper, office sex, drinking, irreverence, more office sex, etc.) are all thrown into the proverbial blender and the "puree" button is hit.
IT's funny, but it also squanders its pretty amazing premise, cast and Reindeer because it's trying to do TOO much and rely TOO much on sex. An office Christmas party gone totally wrong could be comedy gold - this movie isn't it. But it COULD be. And that premise could be sliced and diced so many ways (Die Hard is an office christmas party gone wrong also...) but everyone here was content to accept a paycheck and show up (barely).
It's still funny...but it could have been SO MUCH more than it is.
That said, sometimes you don't want a masterpiece...you just want to make fun of fruitcake. And eggnog. And this movie does that. So...decide what you want. If you have had ENOUGH of the holidays and need a palate cleanser. This works. IF you want something that can be a true classic (even something like Christmas Vacation), keep looking...

Honors History Well but does little new
on December 26, 2020

Verified Purchase:Yes
The DC Animated movie franchise is a quiet juggernaut in the world of animation. It gets next to no recognition, and the quality of these is around the same as the reviled Disney D2V sequels of a few years ago...yet they MUST make money because warner animation keeps cranking them out. To the tune of 4-5 a year! Take a look at what came out in 2020:
Superman Red Son
Justice League Dark: Apocalypse War
Superman: Man of Tomorrow
Deathstroke Knights and Dragons
Batman: Death in the Family
So this last one bills itself as an interactive movie (that sounds cool) and it uses a storyline that was an interactive comic book (that also sounds cool). What what sounds cool, and what is cool, can sometimes be two different things.
Quick history lesson: DC Comics used new 1-900 number technology (pay for a call) in 1987 / 1988 to allow readers to decide the outcome of a Batman story. The story...? Death in the Family. Robin's REAL mother (not Dick Grayson, Robin II: Jason Todd) turns out to be a doctor who was corrupt and indebted to the Joker for Mr. J covering up her drug smuggling issue. She was before her time, since the opiod crisis wouldn't hit for a few more decades. Anyway, the whole issue with Jason Todd is that Dick Grayson was aged and turned into Nightwing during the Judis Contract over in New Teen Titans a few years earlier and a NEW robin (Jason Todd) who was an EXACT clone of Dick Grayson was put in place. Than Frank Miller produced Dark Knight Returns and a throwaway line in that about Jason being killed by the Joker set the stage for Death in the FAmily. But first, Crisis on Infinite Earths reset things and Jason Todd now turned into a street-wise homeless punk who became Robin after Batman caught him trying to boost tires from the Batmobile. Now Jason was a grumpy, rude, insolent kid who wouldn't follow orders. And fans didn't like him. So the Death in the FAmily was set up as a promo stunt and...kids called in and voted to have Robin killed. So he was, although it set off a fervor at the time about kids calling in and spending money on 900 numbers to kill a kid superhero...
Anyway, that's the history. This movie has the benefit of hindsight which is that nobody ever stays dead in comics and Jason Todd came back YEARS later as Red Hood.
Wait, you say, wasn't there a Red Hood movie? Sure was...one of the earliest DC Animated Movies: Batman Under the Red Hood. That's cannon with this, emphasized by the fact that Batman is voiced by Bruce Greenwood here AND there (and in Young Justice, but eh...let's not complicate things...lol).
So now you have a 30 some odd minute "film" that allows you to pick different endings. Which is cool. So...why not say that? Well, because BEFORE you get to the endings what you get is a narrated (by Batman, because he's awesome) clip show of Under the Red Hood. Budget cuts? The endings are new (mostly) but the lead up is recycled and it was much MUCH better the first time when it was called Batman Under the REd Hood.
Still, the interactive feature IS cool and dovetails nicely into history so...this Blu Ray gets credit for that. And the other Showcase label shorts (Adam STrange, Death, Sgt Rock and the Phantom Stranger) are excellent...but they all appeared on other Blu Rays during the last year so they're not new either. That follows history as well, since the first time the Showcase program was animated (Spectre, Jonah Hex, Green Arrow) they were paired with a longer short in a compilation DVD (Superman / Shazam: REturn of Black Adam) 10 years ago.
And...these DC Direct to DVD movies are fun. They're rarely good anymore and clearly coasting, but they are fun comic book movies that KNOW they're nothing more than funny books come to life. They are short, inoffensive and entertaining while you're watching ( and forgettable immediately afterwards). Nothing wrong with that and the only way we keep getting more is to support the current line.
So there you go...clip show tips to the "barely recommended" side of the scale, but it's a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you haven't seen the other four shorts. And if you HAVEN'T Seen Under the Red Hood, please go do that right away. It's one of the best Batman movies (live action or animated) that have ever been produced right up there with The Dark Knight and Mask of the Phantasm. The ending alone hits you in the "feels" which, for a superhero movie about a guy dressed as a bat...well.. :)

Awesome wireless Bluetooth keyboard

This keyboard is amazing. I was looking for another keyboard case for the new iPad I picked up but was dismayed to learn that keyboard cases were not chargeable anymore...when the charge is depleted the keyboard in the case is toast. I type alotabsigad to charge my old keyboard case once a week.
Logitech k480 to the rescue! It has an on/off switch and batteries! Plus it’s nearly a full size keyboard with some heft and weight to it (not too much but it isn’t fragile either). The keys are stiffer to push them most laptop ones are, but after 5-10 minutes of typing, I got used to that. The spacing was different enough from a full size keyboard that I had to slowdown in my typing a not to stop hitting the wrong keys initially (I type at 90-100 wpm usually). No big deal...I got used to the keys quickly.
I love the non magnetic holder - it’s a deep angled slot but it held my iPad firmly as I typed away. The three device selector was great so I didn’t have to keep re-adding devices.
This was also neat - if only disconnected once in the 20+ hours I’ve used it thus far. If I got twenty minutes on the old keyboard case without a hiccup it was a miracle!
All in all a solid and amazing product. The only suggestion I would make is to have they keys backlit. Other than that? Great keyboard! Highly recommended.

fun and competent, swims where you think it will

Ok so we have to keep expectations in check if we want to really understand this film.
Point #1 - it’s a direct to dvd film about genetically engineered sharks that are mean
Point #2...uh...really, what else NEEDS to be said other then point one?
Honestly. By reading point #1 you will immediately know if you will like or dislike this film. There’s no ambiguity and no gray space. This film is about women in skimpy swimwear getting chased and chomped by big, mean cgi sharks.
Yeah...there’s a genre for that. And an audience as well.
So let’s gauge shark movies so if you ARE in this audience you can decide whether you like it or not.
There’s Jaws
Then a decent gap.
Then jaws 2.
And a huuuuuuuuuuge gap.
Then I’d put the shallows, Meg and deep blue sea 1
Then middle of the road shark movies that are fun but dumb, just not insultingly dumb. These are 47 meters down and 47/uncaged and deep blue sea 3
Yes, I skipped over 2 and you should as well. 3 is better...lol. 2 Belongs in the same category as movies like jaws 4 or mega shark v mega octopus. Not that there’s anything wrong with mega shark movies...lol
Anyway, Deep Blue Sea 3. Looks and sounds amazing on BD. Predictable but competent plot which co soars of women in swimsuits fighting giant killer sharks.
Lol...take it or leave it. If you’re in the take it crowd, though, this is a solid “chomp-eriffic” entry. Enjoy!

classic that can’t be seen through a modern lens
on August 29, 2020

If you try to show a kid today this video, they will most likely not watch it. The camera barely moves, the cuts are long and leisurely, the animation is jerky and choppy. The characters speak as we did fifty years ago and not everything they say or do will be perceived nicely by modern sensibilities.
And - honestly - who cares? This is a classic work and while it hasn’t aged as well as for those of us who saw it during original broadcasts, it’s still a classic. I have spent my entire life trying to become an Easter egg master and peel my eggs they way they do in the film. I’m still trying.
There’s none of the dark religious content often found in the ranks bass Christmas films (Nestor, drummer boy). This is a more light hearted romp through the fantasy of Easter: spring, chocolate, finding colored eggs, etc.
If you have young kids, Make sure to balance their Viewing diet with things like this. Gentle, classic and quaint material. I guess you either love it or you don’t, and I do.
It’s like in the story of the velveteen rabbit. On the outside, one might be ugly, worn and tattered. But if someone loves you enough you become real and your true inner beauty shines through. Great metaphor Illustrating how I feel. I grew up watching the rankin bass films, and they define the holidays for me...they make them real. And nothing else matters.
I hope you can enjoy them as I do!

Amazing documentary with a few giant holes
on August 29, 2020
Posted by: MovieGuy
Verified Purchase:Yes
When an artist reaches their third, fourth or even fifth decade the ongoing challenge usually isn’t duplicating past successes, it’s finding yourself and expressing that perspective in a way that is fresh for you, the audience and yet can continue that forward momentum gained from years of experience.
At this point in his career, Ken Burns is a fairly known quantity. You know what you are going to get and you either like it or you don’t. His trademark style of telling a story using still photographs, characters with specific voice over narratives and an emotional connection with the audience are all thighs that have propelled his documentary films into popularity.
Country music continues this trend, but it is a bit less comprehensive (even at sixteen hours) and less focused than some of Mr. Burns’ other work. This is not criticism so much as an observation...I doubt anyone less skilled than Mr. Burns and his team could capture the essence of a story in all of the varied and random elements of country music.
The first half of the documentary, and episodes 5 and 7 notably do this well, even if there is a strong over reliance on Johnny Cash. Episodes 6 and 8, notably, don’t feature a strong center and seem more like a random scattershot of incursion. And now this person! And now this person! And now this person! Eight also features some huge egregious oversights that perhaps speak to the need for some additional episodes. The Gamber was a national phenomenon at the time, but Kenny Rogers’ inclusion in episode 7 is simply an early picture before the gambler and then a mention of four TV movies. There’s footage of him being interviewed so...where is it in the documentary? If runtime is an issue, there were certainly opportunities for some nipping and tucking in some of the long camera holds waiting in silence for the interviewer to decide if they’re going to cry or not.
The hinting at what comes after 1996 (the fusion of rock, pop and country into a larger market than ever before and the stadium filling spectacles of Garth brooks and shawnia Twain (both covered, but only as a forward looking perspective although mr brooks has his biography included, so that isn’t an oversight)) seems to indicate there was mor to the story the filmmakers wanted to tell. The fact the episode is listed ending in 1996 but a good chunk of the final episode covers johnny cash through his death in 2003 also speaks to this. The ending was flat, as if we just stopped rather than end the tale as well...
The largest oversight is an almost complete lack of George Strait. Fewer than five minutes are dedicated to coverage of him and no interviews. Mr strait’s contributions to growing the industry and leaving his mark, are well documented in the annals of history? So...where is he? Perhaps he didn’t want to be interviewed? But does that mean non inclusion?
Please don’t take these issues as a reflection or criticism of the overall film. They aren’t. It is just that they come right at the end and it’s so noticeable a change in quality for this filmmaker that it stands out and leaves a lasting impression. The older episodes are deep in their research and storytelling and it is only as we approach modern complex times that
The documentary is fun! It isn’t sad (ok, it periodically is as genius artists meet cruel fates), it isn’t dark and it isn’t intense. It’s fun! When you hear tunes you’ve heard your whole life, even if you don’t remember where you heard them, you sit up a bit straighter in your chair and enjoy it all the more. Marty Stewart who has lots of screen time throughout is a great storyteller and he’s fun to watch as well. Good call on showcasing him so much.
And perhaps that would have worked as a formula better than the tried and true historical perspective? Less of that and more music? Who knows? It’s easy to Monday morning quarterback it, but it should be emphasized that this is a monumental undertaking and it’s impressive it turned out as well as it is is. Lots of interviews, lots of songs and lots of history. this is - bottom line - not the top documentary Ken burns has ever made (top third, though, for sure) but it is a solid and really good addition to the ranks of his studios’ achievement. A solid B+ for sure. The fun tunes make it more for tapping and memorable, if a bit breezier than some of the other Films. Overall, a solid recommend for anyone who likes music. I am looking forward to watching it again, but more for the music than for the history. Normally I haven’t made those types of distinctions with prior works of Ken Burns, which but rather than pick it apart more...i recommend just having fun with it! How-deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Better than 1st Season, Needed a 3rd to be Super!
on February 27, 2020
Posted by: MovieGuy
Verified Purchase:Yes
Krypton is a fascinating series in its premise - a chance to explore the distant history and mythology of Superman's home planet. That isn't what the first season (or second, really) is about but the second season comes much closer to that than the first did.
The first season was deadly dull for...well...all of it. Even when things ramped up around episode 6 or 7, it then fell apart into a series of soapy "I love him I must betray my family" nonsense. Who. Cares? There's plenty of stuff where people can get THAT kind of storytelling. C'mon hollywood, creating stories and characters that audiences connect with doesn't always have to be about the same ol' same ol'.
I understand budgets, and I understand TV Shows have them. But work within your budget so everything doesn't look like a cheap set recreating earth (this IS an alien planet, right...lol) or an animated movie (not that there's anything wrong with animated movies but this isn't one...it just sometimes looks like one...lol).
You have Krypton two generations BEFORE Kal-El, and all we do with it is populate the show with...current superman supporting characters and villains.
Adam Strange shows up in name only. He steals a zeta beam and ends up in the past on krypton? Ok...not Adam STrange. Just some guy with the same name (Adam Strange could TOTALLY work and is so needing some sort of show, animated movie or feature film...c'mon...he's cool in a 1950s sci fi way...).
Doomsday?? he isn't even a great villain.
Lobo? Ok, Lobo is awesome and portrayed well. He could work...he has a really long life span perhaps. LOL. Honestly, Lobo being in this season is what elevates it.
Zod? Via time travel??? Zod isn't a household name. He isn't a huge draw. If you don't want to pay for existing licensed IP that fit into the timeline (and why would you?) than create your own characters. Develop stories around them and make it uniquely Krypton. Kinda...like the name of the show.
I sound harsh, and I don't mean to be. Honestly, the show is entertaining if a bit slow and a lot cliched. The problem is that this is such a huge opportunity to develop mythology for the Superman Character in a way that will be relevant (you COULD tie in current superman media to it or leave it disconnected, after all Baby Kal-El didn't really spend much time on Krypton so his enculturation is very limited). You could create something exciting and unique that reflects issues of our time but in a safe manner allowing (and even challenging) people to think about things.
This show is simply happy being a soap opera using names of superman characters. It does it well enough, but it's a shame because it could have been so much more.
Of course it ends. On a cliffhanger. You lose a star for that...lol.

The individual parts are greater than the sum
on February 27, 2020
Posted by: MovieGuy
Verified Purchase:Yes
Abominable is an interesting film in that it should NOT work as well as it does. It really has no right to work as well as it does. But, bottom line, is it DOES work and it's one of the most adorable, sweet and entertaining animated film from 2019. Of the three "yeti" films from the past 18 months, this is the one that stands head and shoulders above the rest (sorry "Missing Link" fans, but it's true...) for its heart and ability to connect with the audience.
Now, that said...there's a lot of issues with it including pacing, plot, busy animation, poorly developed characters and cliches in storytelling.
Sounds like a bad movie, right? Nope...this is the rare film that overcomes its weaknesses and the strength of the individual parts that DO work far far FAR outweigh its shortcomings. Rare indeed.
Spoilers may ensue from here on out...you HAVE been warned.
First, there are simply too many characters and the poor movie (and audience) nearly get ADHD from trying to follow each and every one. This comes from having to check off certain boxes (apparent villain who turns good, check. sidekick who turns evil, check. supporting love interest who has to grow to understand what the partner is going through, check. supporting character for comedic relief, check. etc. etc. etc.). This leads to the second issue:
Second, an overly complicated plot. The core of this movie is simply someone learning to live life again after a heart shattering loss. Stick with that, because when the movie does it simply sticks its landing. There's even a connection thematically between the girl and the yeti on that front and when they are helping each other to overcome their respective challenges, the movie sings. When it busies itself with other nonsense the movie gets bogged down. We don't need an evil explorer with a sudden heart of gold or high tech drones or a private military force...it just didn't add anything. Tell your story, focus on your story and the characters you need. Girl is close to her father. Girl distances herself from everyone after his death. Girl finds a scared baby (teen? young adult? it's a bit unclear how old Everest is but he's clearly not fully grown, but his behavior and skill level demonstrated throughout the film seem to indicate a fluid age...lol) yeti and helps him get home. Yeti helps girl reconnect to life. The scene where they meet is awesome. The scene at the buddhist temple is just unbelievably moving and connects with the audience hard. When the girl's violin is accidentally smashed a bit earlier, her reaction is raw yet honest and we - the audience - want to do anything we can to help her.
I know this sounds like hyperbole, but - honestly - it really isn't. When you see these scenes, and scattered others, the film just works. Much, much better than it should and the sheer volume of distracting, extraneous material in the film implies that either the filmmakers hit upon things by sheer luck (highly unlikely) or the film was created via collaboration (more likely considering the fact two studios made it).
The thing that really helps connect the movie together, though, is its soundtrack. The violin theme is simply a beautiful piece of music and perhaps that connective lyrical tissue is what elevates the film beyond just a sequence of mediocre to good scenes but into a film that one wants to experience again and again.
Yeah, watched it three times already...

Is the blu ray that comes with this the theatrical cut ?

No, there are two blu rays in this set. One is the EXTENDED cut of Superman the Movie, which is the 3 hour ABC tv edit that aired over two nights in 1982. The second is the SPECIAL EDITION of Superman the Movie. This was created in 2000 in response to a trend in Hollywood at the time attempting to replicate the success of the Star Wars Special Edition edits from 1997. Richard Donner did work with the production team for this, although it isn’t what appeared theatrically in 1978. Audio and visual effects are added and/or updated. There is also new footage added.

Does the 4K movie come with the digital code?

The 4K version of Superman the Movie is the theatrical cut and comes with a digital code (if slipcover is on the product…WB is known to remove digital codes on subsequent releases where the slipcover is not issued, which is why WB product only shows digital codes on the outside o ring and not on the case artwork itself). Superman the Movie was a catalog title, so still available with its o ring. One more caveat…the digital code did have an expiration of 12/31/20 so it may or may not be active still…
