Buy them anywhere but Best Buy

The star rating I'm giving the Airpods is admittedly misleading as the devices themselves worked great for about 18 days then started to intermittently disconnect from my phone.
"No problem" I thought to myself, "I specifically bought them at my friendly neighborhood Best Buy, an authorized Apple dealer so that on the off chance I ran into any issues with them I'd have a local resource to whom I could turn".
I carefully repackaged them in the original box with all of the original packaging, grabbed my original receipt and drove to my friendly local Best Buy store to exchange my obviously defective Airpods for a new set.
That's when I found out that Best Buy - again, an Authorized Apple dealer - has a 15 day return / exchange policy after which time I - a very long time Best Buy customer, can, as my sainted father might have phrased it, "pound sand".
The individual behind the counter did try to explain to me that if I wanted to join some sort of membership program for only $49.95 I could extend the return window. I instead tossed the Airpods in the trash container behind the counter and left.
Looking at the top of this page I see the heading:

I kind of think I'm not winning that gift card, huh. And what I think? Well I feel like that's not suitable for a family web site such as this one. I will suggest that if you do purchase anything from Best Buy, that you use it hard for the first ten days just to make sure it's going to last because you are 100% on a short clock with these guys.
For myself, all I can say is AMF Best Buy.

It's a great price, but ignore that...

I purchased this set for my sister's new media room. I specifically wanted something that do local dimming. Time for a quick nerd break...
When my older LG set - which doesn't have local dimming - is displaying an image that's mostly dark with a small area of light like say a full moon in a dark sky, the set has to brighten the entire screen to make the moon seem bright enough. This means that even though the sky is black, it's an illuminated black.
The Vizio has local dimming which means that it can brighten small sections of the screen as needed, but leave the rest of it dimmed, so darker colors look more vibrant.
Since the TV went to my house while renovations were taking place at her house I was able to unbox it and set it up side by side with my LG, then get the throne room scene from The Last Jedi on both screens at the same time and the difference was stunning.
Stunning enough that I'm wondering if she'll notice the difference if I were to swap them out. Anyone got some spare Vizio stickers :)

Cables always too short

This is one of what we in the biz call "booleans". It's a cable, it either works or it doesn't. This one does, so five stars!
It's also pretty well priced, I think the fancier alternative was something like four times the price, so that's always nice as well.

So I should start by borrowing from George Carlin who said "somewhere in the world there's the worst doctor". That's me except instead of doctor substitute cell phone picture taker.
I aspire to be worthy of some day being called the worst cell phone photographer :)
A friend wanted some photos of a house they were looking at buying. They live a sizable distance away so asked me to take them. The house has lots of long but narrow space and my phone - a Samsung Note 8 wasn't doing a great job with the wider shots so I grabbed the lens kit specifically for the wide angle lens.
It was silly simple to use, just open the camera app and position the clip on lens so that it's centered over the camera's lens. It's light enough that it still worked just fine with my Osmo Mobile gimbal and really helped widen the shots.
My only complaint and it's likely more a function of putting a wide angle lens over the default lens is that the corners are slightly distorted inwards. I probably wouldn't have noticed it in an exterior shot, but since I was panning from wall to wall the corners made it more noticeable.
Still well worth the cost.

Let's get the non-embarrassing bits out of the way first. The headphones sound great, were easy to set up and I've not been able to run the charge down to zero on them in the three weeks I've had them so the battery has more life in it than I do :)
The only difficulty I've had is more of a Windows issue. The computer automatically switches to the head phones when I power them on, but doesn't switch back to the external speakers when I power the headphones off.
The bonus - at least for me - is that the ear cups are large enough that they fit my... Generous ears. Usually I wind up with either my ears folded and sweating, or sticking out from under the cups, but clamped to the side of my head when I wear over the ear headphones, but the Void actually fits me comfortably. If it weren't for their size I'd ditch the fancy noise cancelling over the ear headphones I use when I travel because the Void is so much more comfortable.

A friend's 11 year old IBuyPower gaming computer finally gave up the ghost a few weeks back, and while he'd be fine without a working refrigerator or running water, life without a gaming rig was not to be contemplated, so I put this on my BB card and he's paying it off installment style - I mean I'm not THAT good a friend :)
Ironically I bought my own IBuyPower based in part on how long he's been pounding away at his, and I'm super pleased with it - I actually left a review of it here in fact. This one is even beefier with a RTX 2080 video card - I'm kind of jealous but I'm not nearly the gamer that he is so I'll muddle by :)
I did the set up for him - installing Windows updates, driver updates and my collection of "don't even consider turning a computer on without these programs installed" paranoid security and utility tools, and as with my computer it's ridiculously quiet, but at the same time is able to drive multiple screens with all of the graphics dialed up to 11 with no trouble.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying the game. I'm dreadfully old and started playing console games the Sunday before Thanksgiving, so I'm not really the person to go to for advice on what to buy. I can tell you that so far it's been loads of fun. Of the three I got when I bought the PS4 this has been my favorite so far.

I feel a little bad about this review because honestly I don't know exactly what the PS Plus membership does for me. My much wiser - well video game wiser - friend said I had to get it and it was on sale when I got the PS4 and so I have it.
My only complaint, and it's kind of an "Old man yells at cloud" thing is that the sign up process had to be done through the PS4. My various streaming services have a streamlined system that allowed me to use the computer for the majority of the typing bits. The PS Plus seemed to be all on the screen using the controller which I use... Let's say "badly" :)
Once it was done it worked great, I did lots of downloading, and saw that I could buy games, movies, even add a Plex app to the PS 4, so that was great.

This is a pretty simple review. Luckily I'm wordy enough that I can hit the minimum length just rambling about how I can hit the minimum length, and "ding" there we go.
There's not a lot that I can say other than it works, I don't have any interference which is the reason I wound up replacing the previous cable, and it's more than long enough to reach from the computer to the monitor even winding it's way through the maze under my desk.
