Amazing uhd Dolby Vision & Atmos Transfer. Movie is poorly acted and directed too many plots but when on sale for 7.99$ makes it a great buy for reference demo material!

Director David Yates and author J.K. Rowling return to the Wizarding World once again in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, another entry in the Newt Scamander prequel adventures. Without a printed source to work from, Rowling conjures an original tale meant to expand the Harry Potter universe, but the plot fumbles about trying to keep one too many spells and charms in order, ultimately failing to capture the same magic as its predecessor. The second installment to the new series enchants Ultra HD with a gorgeous 4K Dolby Vision HDR presentation that improves on its HD SDR counterpart, complemented by a generally satisfying Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Although the set of supplements are relatively small, they are nonetheless informative and entertaining, making the overall UHD package worth a look for both fans and those hungry for more HDR goodness.

In spite of all its flaws and shortcomings, The Equalizer 2 somehow manages to keep audiences engaged just enough to see it through to the end, but the plot is not compelling enough to make this sequel memorable. Although it features a sterling performance from Denzel Washington as the titular vigilante anti-hero, director Antoine Fuqua packs more than he can chew in a script that ironically aspires for something more poignant and thoughtful. The action thriller debuts on Ultra HD with a beautiful 4K HDR10 presentation that only offers a minor step-up over the reference-quality Blu-ray, but the Dolby Atmos soundtrack delivers one demo-worthy moment after another. With a nice but ultimately small set of supplements, the overall package is recommended for action fans and UHD collectors.

How one takes to The Hitman's Bodyguard is going to depend entirely on how one likes their comedy served up to them. If a clever script surrounding well-defined characters with witty banter is your thing, stick to Midnight Run. If you don't mind your comedy improved with a fair share of gross-out dialogue, The Hitman's Bodyguard has a few great laughs in it. Pacing and structure are the biggest problems of the film as it increasingly takes time away from Reynolds and Jackson and how well they work together. Lionsgate brings this film to 4K UHD in terrific order with a great transfer that is an obvious improvement over its SDR counterpart and a hell of a great Atmos audio mix. Bonus features are a bit slim but still worth digging into. At the end of the day, I didn't love the film, but I was entertained. If that's all you're looking for, you should get your money's worth. Recommended.

Justice League finally unites DC's trio of iconic superheroes, Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman, while also introducing The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg for their live-action, feature-length debut. Although the camaraderie and humor of the team is an entertaining highlight of the production, making it at least a fun watch, the overall movie suffers from pacing issues, odd tonal shifts, and a rather dull god-like villain. The team assembles on 4K Ultra HD with a stunning, reference-quality Dolby Vision HDR presentation and an outstanding Dolby Atmos soundtrack, but the supplements are on the light side even if they are a worthwhile watch. Nevertheless, the overall package is recommended for both fans of the movie and AV enthusiasts hungry for more Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos demo-material.

Immediately, in the opening minutes, Atomic Blonde sets the tone, pace and rhythm for the remainder of the film's 115-minute runtime, an aggressive and animated motion picture with a flamboyantly colorful and kinetic energy that feels sadly missing from many contemporary actioners. Starring Charlize Theron and James McAvoy as questionable spies supposedly working on the same side, the action thriller is a white-knuckle cat-and-mouse game of high-stakes espionage with brutal, riveting action choreography, making the list of one of the best movies of 2017. The Ultra HD Blu-ray goes covert with a gorgeously vibrant, demo-worthy 4K presentation in Dolby Vision HDR and an awesomely satisfying DTS:X soundtrack that'll turn the home theater into kickin' house party. Porting over the same, disappointingly small set of supplements, the overall package is recommended for UHD junkies and action fans in general.

Dark, brooding, violent, and a bit lethargic, Hostiles paints a bleak portrait of a racially divided America through the prism of the Old West. Though the highly charged story of a bitter, bigoted army captain ordered to accompany a recently freed Native American war chief back to his Montana homeland takes place in 1892, it’s tough not to draw parallels to the racial turbulence afflicting our contemporary society. Writer-director Scott Cooper’s powerful, yet strangely numbing western adopts a self-important tone as it plods along and promotes its agenda, leaving the joys of the genre behind. Lionsgate’s 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray presentation features a lush, beautifully crisp, yet overly dark video transfer, terrific audio, and a comprehensive behind-the-scenes documentary. Western fans looking for the next Unforgiven will be disappointed, but despite its flaws, Hostiles is still Worth a Look.
On the day Mitch Rapp (Dylan O'Brien) proposed to his girlfriend he lost her in a terrorist attack... and then began quietly training for the day he could take his vengeance on her killers. Now on U.S. intelligence's radar, they convince Rapp of their common purpose, and, under the tutelage of SEAL veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton), he's loosed upon a hardline Iranian cell seeking weapons-grade plutonium. Gripping thriller from Vince Flynn's action novel co-stars Sanaa Lathan, Taylor Kitsch, David Suchet. 112 min. Widescreen; Soundtracks English Dolby Atmos, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles English (SDH), Spanish; featurettes. Two-disc set.

American Assassin is a misguided and mind-numbingly mediocre espionage thriller that practically runs through a checklist of clichéd plot devices while also feeling familiar to every movie of the subgenre. Amazingly, Michael Keaton delivers an exceptional performance that stands alone against his two costars, a frustratingly annoying Dylan O'Brien, who is meant to be the story's hero, and a terribly drab Taylor Kitsch. It's not even worth watching simply out of curiosity or for Keaton's performance. Though a couple minor flaws keep it from scoring higher, the Ultra HD takes aim and comes close to hitting its mark with a gorgeous 4K presentation in Dolby Vision HDR, offering a marked improvement over the Blu-ray, and featuring the same excellent Dolby Atmos soundtrack. In the end, the overall UHD package is a risky bet while the few fans out there will be more than happy, so give it a rent first before committing with a purchase.

Jigsaw is a fun return to the Saw franchise. There's tons of blood and guts along with big twists and turns (although they might not make a whole lot of sense or bring anything new to the table). Still, it's fun to see the blood flow and Tobin Bell back as the villain here. The Dolby Vision HDR presentation and Dolby Atmos track are excellent, while the bonus features cover a ton of ground. All that being said, this 4K UHD release comes Recommended!
Marvel's potty-mouthed mercenary anti-hero is back in this laugh- and action-packed sequel. Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) assembles a team of mutants called X-Force in order to stop cybernetic, time-traveling soldier Cable (Josh Brolin) from killing Russell Collins (Julian Dennison), a young mutant who will murder Cable's family in the future. What could possibly go wrong when Deadpool and Cable are forced to put their differences aside and work together? With Zazie Beetz, Morena Baccarin. 119 min. Widescreen; Soundtracks English Dolby Atmos, DVS 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles English (SDH), Spanish, French; gag reel; photo gallery; deleted scenes; extended scenes; featurettes; audio commentary. Four-disc set.

The Merc with a Mouth returns in Deadpool 2 and takes aim right in the feels with another plot driven by an emotional core that places the irreverent mutant hero in a journey of self-discovery. But overlooking all that mopey, mawkish fluff, the sequel delivers more of the same cheeky, raunchy humor with the action visuals to match while also feeling wholly original. Deadpool unleashes his hot load of teenage angst on 4K Ultra HD with an excellent HDR10 presentation and a fantastic Dolby Atmos soundtrack that easily bests its Blu-ray counterpart. Packing a satisfying sack of supplemental material, Deadpool's hefty four-disc package is highly recommended for fans and those hungering for more HDR goodness.
