As a direct follow-up to Guillermo Del Toro's 2013 sci-fi mecha actioner, Pacific Rim Uprising is relatively satisfying, sure to meet expectations of hardened fans while leaving others wanting more. Starring John Boyega and Scott Eastwood, the sequel is pure popcorn escapism, placing more attention on the robot-vs-monster pandemonium than on character development or a thoughtfully engaging plot. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray brings the gigantic mayhem with a gorgeous Dolby Vision presentation and an awesome Dolby Atmos soundtrack. A small but nonetheless informative set of supplements rounds out the package and worth a look for fans, as well as those hungry for more demo-worthy HDR goodness.

Alien persists as a seminal sci-fi horror classic, a masterpiece of suspense and terror that continues to scare audiences forty years later. With masterful talent and skill, Scott generates a suffocatingly ominous and foreboding atmosphere that pits cinema's first female action hero, portrayed by the excellent Sigourney Weaver, against H.R. Giger's now-iconic, sexually-charged and ravenously brutal monster.
Celebrating its 40th Anniversary, the film hatches from its pod on Ultra HD with a brand-new 4K restoration and remaster of the original 35mm camera negatives, birthing a significantly stunning and gorgeous HDR10 presentation that greatly improves on its Blu-ray predecessor. Although crash landing with same DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack and supplemental material as before, the overall package is nonetheless recommended for both genre fans and 4K enthusiasts.

In his sophomoric follow-up to Get Out, Jordan Peele, once again, surprises with another darkly twisted psychological thriller in Us, a horror allegory with pressing social commentary and thought-provoking ideas that'll have viewers discussing long after the scares are over. Peele's nightmarish vision of modernity debuts on Ultra HD with a beautiful 4K Dolby Vision presentation that delivers an impressive upgrade over its Blu-ray counterpart. A highly-satisfying, near-reference Dolby Atmos soundtrack is accompanied by a disappointingly small but still worth watching collection of bonus features. All things considered, the overall UHD package is Highly Recommended for fans of smart genre flicks.

20th Century Fox clearly aims to right past wrongs with this 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release. Avoiding the DNR travesty of past releases, the new scan offers up improved details and a judicious application of HDR10, giving the image an extra layer of pop and punch easily making it the best home video presentation to date - with some baked in issues that simply can't completely be fixed, only mitigated. Unfortunately, the included Blu-ray doesn't benefit from a new image transfer, but it hosts all of the previously available bonus features making it a nice inclusion to the set. This is a solid release and an easy one to call Recommended - especially if you're not a fan of the sequels.
Terrorists seize an L.A. skyscraper and hold everyone inside prisoner. That is, everyone except New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis), whose estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) is among the hostages. Now, McClane must evade fire from the bad guys and gets little help from the local police as he mounts a daring one-man rescue mission. Slam-bang action hit also stars Alan Rickman, Reginald VelJohnson, Paul Gleason, William Atherton, Alexander Godunov. 132 min. Thirty years later and John McTiernan's Die Hard remains just as entertaining today as it was when I first saw it in theaters, full of hilariously wry comedy reminiscent of classic Hollywood mixed with the exaggerated explosive suspense of the modern era. The seminal action flick will always be remembered for kickstarting Bruce Willis' career and for changing the face of the genre, and on top of that, it remains the best Christmas-themed film ever made. On Ultra HD, the movie arrives as a 30th Anniversary edition with an excellent 4K HDR10 presentation, reportedly struck from a new remaster, and an identical DTS-HD soundtrack that sounds great when using the receivers up-mixing functionality. The same supplements are ported over, but the overall package is nonetheless Recommended for loyal, devoted fans and UHD enthusiasts.

Skyscraper won't be winning any awards - but then it was never meant to. It's a big dumb summer action movie. Certainly not the greatest of the lot to ever come down the pipeline, but the film does have its moments and in spite of everything it is still a good bit of popcorn munching fun. Don't expect anything from it and you should have an okay time. Universal Studios delivers Skyscraper onto 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with a 4K transfer with Dolby Vision that offers a clean and clear improvement over its 1080p counterpart, a snappy and active Dolby Atmos mix, and a couple of decent bonus features. If you're game for some good brainless fun, give this one a spin.

Of all the Die Hard knockoffs that flooded theaters throughout the 1990s, Wolfgang Petersen's Air Force One is certainly one of the better imitators, a political action thriller that actually delivers while surprisingly feeling fresh and original. Starring Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman representing opposing forces in the aftermath of a post-Cold War reality, the film remains genuinely entertaining twenty years later, garnering a well-earned following. The action thriller safely lands on Ultra HD with a beautiful 4K HDR10 presentation that improves on its HD SDR counterpart and a highly-satisfying Dolby Atmos soundtrack that will rock home theaters. Porting over the same disappointing selection of supplements as the Blu-ray, the overall UHD package is nonetheless worth a look.

The Big Lebowski is the hilarious cult comedy favorite with Jeff Bridges and John Goodman in one their most memorable and often-quoted roles. From the genius creative duo, the Coen brothers, the film is a subtle homage to classic detective noir, showing the most unlikely sleuth tangled in a major kidnapping scheme. It's a marvelous piece of work which has grown over time into a cultural phenomenon and endlessly celebrated for its imaginative style and humor. excellent 4K HDR10 presentation and a great DTS:X soundtrack. The same set of supplements are ported over from previous Blu-ray release. But ultimately package is highly recommended, making it an awesome addition to the collection that really brings the home theater room together.

The spy thriller does make efforts to distance itself from its counterparts, but is still a painfully slow-burner, and seldom earns the right to be so. Ultimately it lives and dies on an all-star cast, some unexpected brutality, and a few twists and turns that you might not see coming.
The Red Sparrow 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release is almost universally excellent, with superb video and audio and a healthy selection of extra features, leaving it a great package for fans to pick up.

From the motion capture characters to the intricate world-building, Alita: Battle Angel is an often stunning film. Sure the script has some simplicities and basic contrivances, but the rest of the story is engaging with terrific performances from Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, and Ed Skrein.
