With engines roaring, guns blazing and a tank full of comedic fun, Bumblebee runs circles around the entire Transformers franchise, making it the best of the series with plenty of heart, humor, and spectacle. Anchored by a simple story about a pair of loners rescuing each other while saving the world, director Travis Knight brings back that sense of astonishment and amazement in seeing giant robots blow up stuff real good. The battle rages on Ultra HD with a fantastically gorgeous Dolby Vision HDR presentation that leaves its Blu-ray counterpart in the dust as well as an outstanding Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Equipped with a small but nonetheless enjoyable set of supplements, the overall UHD package is a recommended thrill ride for the whole family.

The Hate U Give is an emotionally gripping and powerful crime drama based on the novel of the same name by Angie Thomas. Featuring an intensely moving and spellbinding performance by the talented Amandla Stenberg, the plot directly tackles a troubling issue faced by many people, as experienced through the eyes of a young teen. Although it's not a significant upgrade over its Blu-ray counterpart, the poignant film debuts on Ultra HD with a good-looking 4K HDR10 presentation and a largely satisfying DTS-HD MA soundtrack. With a somewhat disappointing yet informative set of bonus features, the overall package is nonetheless recommended and sure to make a great addition to the UHD library.

Evil returns home on Ultra HD with an excellent 4K HDR10 presentation that offers a few noteworthy improvements over the Blu-ray while featuring the same satisfying DTS:X soundtrack. Despite the lackluster set of supplements, the overall package is nonetheless recommended for fans who can proudly place it alongside the many editions of the original.

For the money, the JBL Charge 4 is a definite no-brainer. You get a speaker that lasts all day, sounds great, can put up with all kinds of abuse, and tops your phone up in a pinch. Yes, there are better sounding speakers but you’ll have to spend much more money.

It was solid entertainment with some of Elton John's best tunes and terrific performances. It's not my favorite movie of the year, but it's good enough at what it does that I wouldn't dissuade anyone from watching it. Especially if you're an Elton fan - you'll want to check this out. Paramount Pictures delivers Rocketman to 4K UHD Blu-ray with a great Dolby Vision presentation and a solid Atmos mix. Toss in some worthwhile bonus features and you have yourself a disc worth adding to the collection. Recommended.

As silly as the premise of the Third Reich creating an army of zombies is, Overlord is a surprisingly fun horror combat flick from J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions. Part of its success is director Julius Avery making the absurdity and explosive action feel much like a first-person shooter video game without actually imitating any known source. Zombies invade the hostile territory of Ultra HD with an occasionally stunning Dolby Vision HDR presentation that nicely adds a few notable improvements over the Blu-ray and an awesome, reference-quality Dolby Atmos soundtrack. Although featuring a puny assortment of bonus features, the overall UHD package is recommended for genre fans everywhere.

As one of my favorite all-time movies, it's great to see Apocalypse Now get such reverential treatment on home video. In an era with far too few genuine special editions, this Final Cut release boasts three cuts of the movie, sparkling 4K Dolby Vision transfers, new Dolby Atmos soundtracks, and what feels like every possible special feature available. Quite simply, this is everything I love about being a home theater enthusiast. Must Own.
A field trip to Europe with his classmates was supposed to provide Peter Parker (Tom Holland) with a well-earned respite from his superhero alter-ego of Spider-Man. But when he's recruited by superspy Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Spidey is soon back on the job and teaming up with the InchMysterioInch-us Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal)-apparently a hero from an alternate universe-for a dangerous mission that may not be what it appears. Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei co-star in this fun-filled Marvel sequel.

Spider-Man: Far From Home isn't the sequel we were hoping for. It feels lazy, uninspired, and not on par with the rest of the MCU. It seems like Endgame was indeed the end and Far From Home is the last gasp of air of something great, which is unfortunate. It's still nice to see Holland take care of this beloved superhero character and find him in love, but other than that, everything falls flat on its face, when it should be swinging for the skyscrapers. The 4K Ultra-High Definition transfer is gorgeous, but the Dolby Atmos track is something less than to be desired. There is a hefty helping of extras, none of which are important to the story or mythos. Worth A Look!
In a world where Brooklyn teen Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) got that fateful radioactive spider bite-and the mantle of Spider-Man-the use of a particle accelerator by the Kingpin (Liev Schreiber) is causing existence to fissure. As alternate-dimension Spideys like Peter Parker (Jake Johnson), Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney) pile into his reality, can they help Miles undo the chaos? Oscar-winning animated effort also stars the voices of Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry. 117 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

This isn't only one of the best animated films to deservedly win an Oscar for that title, but it's also one of the best Comic Book adaptations ever made while also being just a great film all around. As one of my favorite movies of 2018, I'm glad to report that this 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray lives up to the film's reputation. Featuring a bright bold and colorfully beautiful 2160p transfer with HDR10, a thunderingly impressive Dolby Atmos mix and a swath of excellent informative bonus features, my only complaint is that we have to wait for the sequel. This 4K UHD disc is a Must Own for comic fans, film fans, and 4K UHD fans!
Troubled adolescent Brandon Breyer (Jackson A. Dunn) was finally tipped to the truth that his farmer parents (Elizabeth Banks, David Denman) withheld from him-that he possessed strange and superhuman abilities because he was a foundling from another world. Unfortunately, this young sociopath is less about truth, justice, and the American way than violently bending mankind to his will. Very dark spin on a very familiar pop mythos co-stars Matt Jones, Meredith Hagner, Becky Wahlstrom. 90 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

Brightburn feels like an incomplete movie. There is essentially no third act, at least not within a more traditionally structured story. The film introduces the character and sees him grow into his powers while cutting ties with everything that once loved and could love him, but it leaves it at that. There's no challenge, no conflict, no opposition on his plane. Perhaps the opposition is emotion, but there's also no pull between right and wrong, and the family ties are not strong enough to even tempt Brandon to step away from mayhem. The picture is passably entertaining, at least, and it's technically sound, but it needs more. Sony's UHD offers little video upgrading over the Blu-ray -- slightly improved color and contrast are really about it -- but the Dolby Atmos soundtrack is a clear step up from the Blu-ray's 5.1 lossless track. Recommended.
