After a lukewarm reception of the first Yooka Laylee game, I was interested to see what Playtonic would do with the next game in the series. The result was a 2D platformer reminiscent of the classic Donkey Kong Country games. The graphics and music are top notch, and there's a good bit of humor in the game's dialogue. The standard stages are 2D side scrolling affairs, all connected via a top down overworld filled with puzzles and secrets. The levels are well designed for the most part, and filled with alternate paths and hidden areas. You can also unlock modifiers for the game, such as adding more checkpoints to a level, or increasing swimming speed, at the cost of quills, the game's currency. It's all fun and fairly challenging.
...at least until you take on the titular "Impossible Lair". The difficulty spike between the normal levels and the final level is incredibly high, even with the extra shielding you earn throughout the rest of the game. Did I mention the stage will take nearly twenty-five minutes to complete and there are no checkpoints? There's a fine line between challenging and frustrating, and the Impossible Lair firmly places itself on the "frustrating" side.
It's incredibly disappointing that the Impossible Lair is, well, impossible for most people who will pick up this game, especially since the rest of the game is so well balanced with its difficulty. Gamers who enjoy spending hours trying to conquer super tough games such as Super Meatboy or Celeste will probably like attempting to run through the Impossible Lair, but anyone else will be better off with the myriad of other side scrollers on the platform, such as Nintendo's own Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

Tying up all the plotlines from the past decade of Marvel movies, Endgame is worthy of the name, with lots of action, some sadness, and quite a few moments of comedy in between. At a three hour runtime, it might be best viewed in chunks, but you also might find yourself sucked into the story and completely lose yourself as some of our favorite characters wrap things up and save the universe.

What can be said about this movie that hasn't been said? It's a timeless classic filled with adventure, comedy, romance, and so many memorable moments and lines, all framed as a story being told by a grandfather to his grandson, who bond over the afternoon when the boy is home sick in bed. It's a fun flick everyone will enjoy.

The Pokemon cartoon series has had its ups and downs over the years, but the XY seasons have definitely qualified as an "up". The animation has been bumped up considerably, and the voice cast have long since grown comfortable with their roles and are a joy to listen to. The plot remains the same, Ash is traveling with a group of friends as he earns Gym Badges in order to compete in in the Pokemon League, but this season finally adds in the nefarious Team Flare and their quest to capture a mysterious Pokemon that joins Ash's group. Said Pokemon could be the key to save the world... or destroy it. There is plenty of awesome action and the usual goofy comedy to be found in this three disc set. My only minor gripe is that the set (or any set for that matter) doesn't include the "Mega Evolution Specials", which were special episodes that sets up characters and events that have a significant impact on the main series. Oh well, maybe we'll see them in the eventual blu ray release.

The first live action Pokemon movie could have certainly been a trainwreck, but Detective Pikachu embraces the weirdness of the franchise and runs with it. Plenty of funny and cute moments for the kids, and quite a few jokes for parents, especially if they've grown up with Pokemon themselves. If you're not familiar at all with Pokemon, you may be a little lost, though the film does attempt to fill in newcomers with varying degrees of success.
Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith have great chemistry as Detective Pikachu and Tim, as the two search for Tim's father, who is also Pikachu's partner. Thrown into the mix are an intrepid reporter and her Psyduck, a plot to alter the relationship between human and Pokemon, and lots and lots of coffee.
You may have figured out the plot before the end of the first act, but the amazing visual effects, strong performances, and some amusing diversions along the way will keep you invested until the end.

Another excellent installment of the Smash Bros series. Gameplay is smooth and fast, with tons of customizable options and features, and graphics and sound are top notch. My only complaint is that there is SO much packed into this tiny cartridge, it can be a bit overwhelming to know where to start.

I'm looking to get a printer to print out zines to sell. How does this printer fare when it comes to greyscale/photo-like images? Does it print them clearly, or is there a lot of streaking? Not looking for photo quality, but I want them to look nice.

is this game ok for an eight-year-old?
Yes, there is nothing overly offensive or vulgar, and the violence is very cartoonish and mostly involves robot enemies exploding. Gameplay is simple and there's an easy mode for younger, less experienced players.

Has anyone beat World 8-4 on Super Mario Bros. I keep getting killed by the Hammer Bro. and Bowser?
I hate that Hammer Bro...
Sorry, no real trick to it. You just gotta either learn their patterns, or just get lucky.
