How Green Was My Valley is a truly wonderful film. I know that many see it as a paint-by-numbers studio attempt of telling a story that relates to the working class - and they’re not wrong! It’s explores parallels of family duty and fiscal responsibility, love wanted and love lost, all through the lens of a small boy seeing his family change as he grows from boy to man. But that’s it’s true strength that speaks volumes to every generation. Look at it this way... now no one EVER has to make a movie like this ever again!

A sequel desired by many...

... but not necessarily delivered upon.
Don’t get me wrong - this is a solidly-made and kid-friendly adventure!
But coming off arguably one of the greatest animated films of all time, there was a lot to live up to. Themes are a-plenty in this visual feast, but not many are followed through on. The ideas and paths they could have taken or ventured down were never explored and made this sequel feel... lacking.
Don’t get me wrong - this is a solidly-made and kid-friendly adventure!

The sequel, focusing on Benecio Del Toro’s mysterious hitman and his relationship with his US contact played by Josh Brolin. It’s a solid entry with some more focused character themes. It ends with hopes of another sequel... we’ll see.
