I think this Sony is a good value. It has a number of features, including 7 channels and a remote setting where you can have a set of speakers in a different room, or outside, that play separately. The sound is good and it is pretty easy to set up. It takes a bit of time to become familiar with all of the features, but that is common with these types of receivers. Especially if you have multiple video sources to handle, this receiver makes it much easier.

I would recommend this to a friend!

will 2 different ohm rated speakers cause this to burn out? centers 6ohms surrounds are 8ohms

i have 1 6 0hm center sony speaker and 4 8 ohm polk audio surround speakers will this cause the receiver to burn out?

Unless you are going to run this near peak levels for extended periods of time (and make your friends and neighbors angry) then this should not be a problem. It might make the sound vary, however, depending on the relative sizes of the speakers. You certainly could give it a try and see if it is acceptable. There are a lot of acoustical considerations involved in the space so it may make no difference in sound.

any turntable with an RCA output cable would work with this receiver.

Not for video, and I don't think you can play two different audio sources either.

Can this receiver generate VIDEO to HDTV WiFi; or just audio?

Descriptions emphasize WiFi audio; but I have a pre-WiFi HDTV; Can I use the receiver to access streaming VIDEO content and connect this VIDEO content to my HDTV?

The receiver cannot access WiFi itself and send it to a non-smart TV. You would need a component like an XBox or WiFi-enabled cable box to capture the WiFi signal for streaming, That could then plug into the receiver, which would send the signal to the TV, but the receiver itself cannot access WiFi.

I didn't see a subwoofer input wire connect, can someone tell me where this is?

I don't believe there is one. The receiver has a subwoofer output, and can handle subwoofer duties by itself. I don't think you need to use a subwoofer output from a component source.

Can you hook up a Technics turntable to this unit?

If your turntable has standard RCA output cables, then there should be no problem.

hdmi passthrough

how do you get tv audio to play with amp in stand-by mode

HDMI passthrough in standby does not include audio, so you would have to use the audio in your TV itself to get sound.

What speakers are recommended for this system

need surround speakers and need to know what is recommended. The speaker hook ups are the type that require strippable speaker wires

The receiver can accommodate both regular speaker wires but also ones with the "banana" ends. Any speakers should be able to work with this receiver.

How do you switch the a and b speakers?

Everything speaker wise connected won't switch from a to b, only shuts off speakers.

That will depend on a number of settings for the speakers you may have set up. You will need to consult the owners' manual for this, something detailed.

eXTERNAL SPEAKER CONNECTION

I want to connect 4 external speakers. What is the best connection?

Use the front and surround speaker connections for the best music sound. But if you are doing surround sound for a TV, get a 5th small speaker for the center as it will sound much better, and that is the point of an AV receiver.
