My mom decided that this was the tracker she wanted after I tried it out for a week to see if it would do what she wanted. She wanted the basics of an activity tracker with the option of getting her heart rate if she wanted, while being a clip on model instead of wristband. I told her the Pulse wasn't something I would want myself and had a few drawbacks but it had the qualities she wanted.
She ended up loving it. She said she only takes her pulse during a few workouts and that's as much information she needed, she is no health nut. She actually ended up not using the clip or band and sticks it in her pocket bare instead. She uses all the features including sleep tracking, everyday. I got a protection plan on it because I didn't trust it at the start and I know she'd be upset if I needed to get another one if it quit working like so many people have said in the reviews. So far haven't had to replace it and she's had it for about a year now.
The good stuff?
If you want a clip on tracker I actually liked the main function of the Withings Pulse.
The device is perfect for the basics without any apparent issue. Such as: Battery life, step counting, distance, elevation and sleep.
This is definitely for the more casual user, not a workout nut like it may advertise. It's versatile with a clip on holder and wrist band holder. If you want to wear it wrist band style like the popular Fitbit, Jawbone and Garmin products without purchasing additional accessories it's very easy. The 2 week battery life makes it lower maintenance then most other rechargeable trackers. It does Heart Rate, so if you want to see it while doing a workout or run if desired it can be done without counting yourself.
The app for the Pulse is good by all means and lays out your information in a way that makes sense, so you can get a direction to your end goal of wellness, and see progression over time.
It gives you options and a taste of everything. If this was released closer to the Fitbit one I would have strongly consider purchasing one instead of my first activity tracker the Fitbit One. That is a closer comparison to the pulse for style and features in my opinion than the Fitbit Charge HR and other popular activity trackers it is in selling among.
Compared to other less popular activity trackers that are clip on, I find quality here based on my experience. I would say it's a great clip on tracker for those who want to watch their activity and get motivated. If interested there's also a scale you can invest in that will work along side your tracker to show you everything you want to know, wirelessly on you smartphone device. Also not as expensive as other trackers that have similar capabilities.
Now for the draw backs...
There have been a lot of reviews on here stating it just quit working. Which I figured would happen to hers after hearing a few things here and there. We never did run into this issue thankfully, but it complained about a lot. So a fair warning this has been happening to people before you go out and buy this product.
The biggest thing you need to know about the Pulse, is that the blood oxygen level feature is not something you should buy this for. The technology was obviously rushed into and has apparent issues, it's not going to work like it sounds. It can be off for readings and it's not reliable. It can be very slow and it take multiple attempts to get a good reading, then again, most of the time this wasn't a big issue because it was not purchased for that reason in this case unlike many others.
The heart rate/blood oxygen levels can only be measured with your finger. So don't expect this to operate like the heart rate monitors on some wrist strap activity monitors. It has to come out of the clip or wristband if you want to check this information. It takes more time because of the design and is more inconvenient, I would only consider this a perk at most and not the main reason to buy the Pulse.
The calorie counter on the devices that can do heart rate quickly and frequently without hassle are going to be more accurate. If you want to know how much your burning very closely and accurately, you're better off having a tracker with a quicker response on the readings that are also more frequent.
If you want to switch between the clip and arm band then I hope you're not too worried about the appearance of the wrist band, it looks very odd and thrown together.
The Pulse is a great idea, but it has flaws and some unreliability in a couple areas. But if you are looking for something with more flexibility without paying a lot. I'd suggest giving it a try. In the end my Mom is happy and has a better way to watch her health and get moving more.
I don't regret buying it for her.
This tracker isn't for everybody but there are some who really enjoy it for their needs, if the cons out weigh the pros listed above then I'd suggest looking at a different tracker.
Hope this helps!

I purchased my Fitbit HR quite a while back close to their release date. As did my boyfriend (he wears a large and I wear a small). The setup was a breeze and we were ticking before we knew it!
My heart rate likes to jump while running so I've been keeping an eye on it, which is super helpful when it is right on your wrist! Also on the app it has a built in feature that when your heart rate reaches a certain speed it calls it "Active Minutes" so you see how much you've been active over weeks/months.
If you are trying to decide between the HR and regular I'd highly suggest the HR if your goal is to lose weight. Since if you use the regular it cannot accurately tell you how many calories you are burning.
Even if you are not a runner, everyone's heart rates are different and those with higher heart rates tend to burn more calories. Everyone can't be measured the same because our bodies are all different. My boyfriend's heart rate is slower than mine, if we had the same movement through a day it would show I've burned more calories since mine is faster.
But don't overwork your heart while exercising!
Also there are graphs on the app for tracking heart rate over time along with the usual steps! Also some fun competitive games between friends for steps!
If you invest in a Fitbit Aria you can also track your weight over time as well! It pairs perfectly if you're looking to lose weight!
You might call us a Fitbit Family!
As far as size works, most people wear the large. I can fit in a large still comfortably but the small is the best size for me so I don't have a lot of slack. The large is perfect for my boyfriend and he did try the XL (only sold on Fitbit's site) and it was way too big. He has slightly larger wrists than most men. But I am on the third to the last notch and I have smaller than the average ladies wrist! So large fits most. If you need to try one out I'd say large first, small second!
Enjoy your STEPS to a healthier you!
(Pun intended)

My father still has a iPhone 4 and we got this case for him when he got the phone 3 years ago. Case has held up wonderfully and still sealed. Recently the belt clip broke, but he uses it everyday so I was honestly surprised it lasted as long as it did! But it gets better, I had the option to buy a new one for $20, but I instead decided to give their manufacturer warranty a try.
The gal was outstanding that I worked with on the phone. He's bad with his hands so he had trouble taking off the actual case, and he lives 4 hours away from me so I wasn't able to aide him. I explained this to her and she said it was no problem since I offered to send photos of the clip that he sent to me.
So to sum it up, lifeproof makes OUTSTANDING cases and backs up all of their products with an amazing warranty so just in case that three years down the road (really dad, get an upgrade already) you can get your product replaced.
I'll never hesitate to get a lifeproof case from Best Buy!

Garmin - HRM-Run Heart Rate Monitor - Black/Gray
Compatible with Garmin fenix 2 and Forerunner 620 devices, this Garmin HRM-Run 010-10997-08 heart rate monitor measures your heart rate, distance traveled, cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time for enhanced metrics about your running form.

does this have a chest strap?

does it have a chest strap?
No it does not. The pulse gets the readings on the back on the device. To do this you place your finger directly on the back of it and hold it there until it finishes the reading. It can only take your HR/blood oxygen with a finger.
Hope this helps!

How big of a wrist will the small band fit?

Not big at all, it is pretty small. I have tiny wrists and I fit in the small good, but I honestly can still wear the large if I had desired. The large is the average size for most people.
Go try one out at your local Best Buy if you want to know for sure!

Will Fitbit Charge HR work with Samsung S5? It shows compatible with up to S4...

Yes it will work great with the Fitbit App on your S5. There are known issues with the notifications features with some Android phones (possibly the S5), but there is no for sure answer for that one. I believe it's just a weird bug.
Old information/packaging may have not included the S5 in the compatibility breakdown since it is a newer model when the Fitbit was released.

Tracking Sleep?

How does the fitbit recognize your sleep pattern? I know it can do a wake alarm, but do you have to tell it when you're going to sleep? It would be great if it just knew based on your heart rate because I'm not sure I could remember to enter it manually.
I'm sure you've figured this out already but I'll wrap this up just in case. Yes the Fitbit recognizes your sleep patterns. It automatically starts its recording when your movement significantly decreases within an hour and when your heart rate slows. If you have any issues with it doing this automatically (this isn't usual for the device but everyone's sleep patterns vary) you can manually put it into sleep mode.
Once you wake up you can view how efficient your sleep was on your app and/computer dashboard. It will show if you awakened, were restless or asleep. It will also show the duration.
Fitbit has created an equation that works automatically to help you figure out how efficient the sleep was for you. Keep in mind it isn't perfect but pretty accurate!
In case you wonder it will do all the same automatically if you take a nap.

Hope this helps!

Can you wear the wristband if you are allergic to Latex?

Does the wristband have latex in it? I can't wear latex gloves or be around latex balloons
Sorry that no one answered your question earlier, but if this is still of concern of yours I'll leave an answer. No it does not contain any latex, it is made of a elastomer material, close to the same as sport watches.

Will the fitbit Hr work with the Applie I phone 4?

No, it is not compatible with the iPhone 4 due to syncing capabilities. It is however, compatible with the iPhone 4s. If there's any confusion between models, the 4s has Siri and the 4 does not.
You will need a compatible tablet or just use your computer if you do have the iPhone 4. It can still work for you through other devices if you are still interested!

Can the Fitbit charge be set to display the time in 24 hour (military time) format?

I'm betting you've figured this out by now, but yes it can. You just need to change your time preferences on your Dashboard for your Fitbit in personal settings.

How do I zero the activity totals and start over???

You will need the Fitbit Dashboard on your computer to do this, you can download it from Fitbit.com. You may need the Fitbit's Bluetooth adapter that comes with it in the packaging but it may not be necessary.

I do a lap swimming and want to know if i can swim with it and will it take my heart rate

The FitBit Charge HR is not waterproof. It would most likely give up after a week or so of being submerged here and there.
The product that I can think of that might be better is the Basis Peak. It will do heart rate 24/7 and is fully waterproof. This one isn't quite as popular or praised as the Fitbit Charge but Best Buy does sell it and you could use the trial period of 14 days to figure out if you like it's functionality.
Otherwise you can stick with the Fitbit but keep in mind it isn't for the pool and it would be best to just take it off while swimming.
You can stop by your local Best Buy or call to see if they have any better recommendations as well.
Here's an article of waterproof activity trackers if you want to do your own research: http://www.bestfitnesstrackerreviews.com/waterproof-fitness-trackers.html

is there any brand activity tracker that sycs with an iPad?

The Fitbit Charge does and almost any activity tracker will as long as the App for the activity tracker you are considering is compatible with the iPad OS. Which I doubt you will find one that isn't compatible.
A lot of older folks use them with their iPads since quite a few don't have smart phones. Also works with your computer! No need for the smartphone if you don't have one or don't want to use it on there.
Just search your iPad's App Store for the designated App for the one you're interested in it will show if it is available or not.
