The best way to find an answer to your questions would be to contact Gateway directly and obtain the specifications for the computer which will tell you the exact type of memory your computer needs. From what we can find this model computer this product is not the correct memory. This system appears to only accept PC3-12800 1600MHz memory.

This is desktop memory and not compatible with an iMac. For your iMac you would need SODIMM (laptop) memory and it must be PC3-10666 1333MHz.

Do I need to take case off before installing it ?
The memory came with case on it which seems hard to take off. Do I need to take it off?

That is not a case. It is a heat spreader designed to keep the memory cool and it is not removable (and is not supposed to be removed).

If I have 4 GB ram already installed and I buy this 8gb will it give me 12 gigs total

will a pny * gig memory stick pc3-12800 ddr3 work with ddr3 PC3-10600 memory stick

You would of course have to check your motherboard specifications to see what is support, but generally yes you shoudl be able to use them together however it will most likely run at the speed of the slower module (1333MHz in this case)
