While HP does state that this machine accepts LV (Low voltage) memory, they do not reveal what the speed is. Please double check your existing memory module. If it is 1600MHz LV memory then yes this product will work for you.

If I understand your question correctly you are asking if 16GB will make a difference over 12GB. It depends on how you work with the computer. Having more memory will always be better to allow faster (and more) multitasking functionality, extra memory for programming functions, etc.
