Hello Eagle, the distance between shelves is 8 1/2". And the shelves are not removable as they contain refrigerant for quick freeze.

Can this go outside as part of an outdoor kitchen? Does it have an outdoor rating? I'm trying to replace an old one and I don't see anywhere about it being able to stay outside. Maybe that's why the old one is now broken :)
