While recording, you can't pause the recording. You can stop the recording though and restart the recording as a new recording when you're ready.

How much does the battery last and does it require wifi to record
Battery life will depend on the specific camera you're using and the settings you choose. With the HERO12 Black, for example, a fully charged battery should last about 70 minutes at the highest resolution and frame rate, and could last nearly 2.5 hours at lower frame rates and resolutions. GoPro cameras do not require wifi to record. They can be used nearly anywhere - whether there's wifi around or not.

The size of the files will depend on the settings you choose and the length of the video you want to send. Because the HERO10 Black can record at up to 5.3K resolution, unedited files can be large - often several gigabytes - which would be difficult to email. If you want to email your videos, you could use a video editor to create a smaller version, or upload the video to an online source like the GoPro cloud platform (through the GoPro Subscription) or a site like YouTube and then share the link through an email.

The extension pole on this GoPro Max Grip tripod locks into position with a simple twist for securing easy shots.
Even after twisting the extension pole, it cannot support the weight of a GoPro 12 Black. What can I do?

Can the GoPro be used underwater in saltwater without a housing unit to protect it?
Yes, GoPro cameras can be used in salt water and fresh water. The HERO12 Black can be used on its own down to 33 feet. If you want to go deeper than 33 feet, there is a protective housing that you can use. If you do use the HERO12 Black in salt water, it's always a good idea to rinse it off with fresh water after use.
