My phone carrier is Century Link. The phone line to my house is not cable. It is a standard wired line. Will this modem connect to the existing wired line? What is the modem speed?

This is a cable modem. If you have DSL Internet this product will not work.

I have a gateway provided by cable service at one end of my home but the home office is at the other end and the wifi is poor. Would a router like the Nighthawk 1900 help, if I put it in between the gateway and the office? Do I need to run ethernet to it?

You can set this device in AP Mode and you will need to run an Ethernet cord for connection.

I have AT&T Uverse system with a separate wireless access point attached - will this router work with my system - and do I just plug the router into the AT&T Uverse box? Any other suggestions on whether this can be used with the AT&T Uverse system.

you can use this router in AP mode attached to your modem.
