How come the description has 10/100/1000 Ethernet network card noted but this machine does not have an Ethernet port?

Model number 81FB006AUS does not have an ethernet port. You would need a USB to ethernet adapter to connect this computer to an ethernet cable.

Can the 500 GB be upgraded

This model is not user upgradable. A certified technician must do all of the work, so as to not void the warranty. Your certified technician can replace the existing hard drive with a compatible replacement. Check with your certified technician for your options.
