I'm going into MY 1st year in college and I needed a laptop. Would this be good for Microsoft and if I need to download a software for one of my classes?

It is good for light work with Microsoft Office programs and browsing the internet. This model is not user upgradable. A certified technician must do all of the work, so as to not void the warranty. There is 4GB of RAM soldered to the motherboard and another 4GB of RAM within the memory slot within the device. Your certified technician can remove the 4GB stick from the memory slot and add an 8GB stick for a system total of 12GB RAM.

Is the keyboard backlit on this? It says no under specifications but I've seen others that look identical and say yes.

Can I burn cds on this computer...?

There is a CD/DVD-RW drive within this device, but to burn CDs, you will need to install Media Player software. This does not come preinstalled with Windows 10 Home operating system.

Just bought this laptop. Do you need to use a cooling pad with it? Does it get too hot? My last 2 laptops needed one. (not the same brand as this one.)

You do not need a cooling pad. The onboard fan will keep the system at the proper operating temperatures under normal use. Keep the venting ports clear for optimum cooling.
