I want a simple laptop to transfer pictures to a external hard drive and check email and maybe surf the internet. How will this suit my needs?

The Lenovo IdeaPad 2 in 1 11.6" Laptop will be able to perform the work you describe. Please keep in mind that this configuration with the Intel Celeron processor is an entry level, light use system. It is not meant for heavy use, multi-tasking or more demanding programs, including some graphic intensive web sites that use a lot of high quality photos and/or videos.
