This system has a power cord included. There are video port connectors for VGA or HDMI. If your computer has either of those connections for a monitor (it should have at least a VGA port), it will work with your existing computer.

I am trying to hook up to monitors. The monitor that I am plugging in to the HDMI is not turning on. Can anyone help?

The graphics card on this system, the AMD Radeon R7 350 graphics card, can only handle one monitor at a time. This is the HDMI-out port. The VGA adapter is directly connected to the processor and the graphics processing integrated within the AMD FX processor. When the VGA port is in use, the HDMI port will not work. If you unplug the VGA monitor, I believe you will see that the HDMI port will now work.

This system does not come with a discrete graphics card. Graphics processing is integrated within this system's Intel Core I-03 processor. The graphics processing on the chip is Intel® HD Graphics 4400. The video images on the screen should not be washed out. That would probably be a function of the monitor settings, at any rate. We recommend you try it yourself. Best Buy has a great return policy of 15 days, so long as the product is not damaged and with your original receipt. Give the system a try.

No, the backlight does not auto adjust when it is on.

My last laptop (different brand) used to get very hot and I had to prop it up on something to let air get to the bottom of the device. Does this laptop also get hot, or can I rest it on my knees as I work or play my games?

This system will get warm when in use. It should not get uncomfortably hot to the point you can not rest it on your lap. Always make sure though that the air vents on the system are clear.
