First create a restore point on your system. Do this by clicking on the magnifying glass at the bottom left of the Windows 10 screen. Type "restore point" in the search window. Select "Create a restore point" from the list of choices. Follow instructions to create and name a new restore point. This way if anything does work properly after these changes you are about to make, you can restore the system back to this point. Now, click on the magnifying glass at the bottom left of the Windows 10 screen again. Type "windows defender" in the search window. Select "Windows Defender" from the list of choices. Follow the instructions to turn Defender on. There is a 30-day free trial of McAfee Anti-Virus software on this system. If Windows Defender won't start up, you will have to uninstall McAfee first. You can do this by clicking on the magnifying glass again, typing "uninstall" in the search window. Then selecting "Programs and Features" from the list of choices. Select McAfee and uninstall. Then try to start up Defender again.
