I just bought this laptop- first of all, why is it so hot on the bottom?-

There are two air vents on the bottom of this system, be sure they remain clear at all times. Also there may be a graphics driver update for your system that will help with this heating issue. You are correct. There is no backlit keyboard, nor a 10-key numeric pad on this system. I don't see the copy you refer to on this Best Buy web page for this system:

the touch pad isterrible- keeps making my screen bigger and smaller- and it is not smooth

There may be a driver update that can correct the bigger/smaller screen issue. Follow the link below to Lenovo.com support-drivers and look for mouse-keyboard driver updates. Be sure to create a restore point on your system before you make changes or download new software. If the feel of the touchpad does not work for you, you can use a mouse with this system. Either a wireless or wired:
