You can use a USB external microphone. You will need to install driver software that should come with the external microphone.

I'm having issues with the dell inspiron I just purchase. It has an annoying popping noise while using headphones. Can anyone tell me if this laptop has similar issues? I'm considering returning the Dell and get this one. Thanks.

There should not be a popping noise from any laptop's audio system. It is not a normal occurrence that is to be expected. I expect you will not encounter this popping issue with this Lenovo system.
