I have this laptop, and recently bought a hp monitor to connect to this laptop. Am I able to connect this to the screen? What other devices and cords do I need to get these to work together?

If your new monitor has a compatible USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 connection port for a video in signal, just plug in your Yoga C740 15 with a compatible USB-c video capable cable and you are Plug and Play ready.
