What happens during a power outage? Will the base continue to work during a power outage?

Hi - The VTech IS8151-4 does not have a battery back up on the telephone base, hence the system will not work during power outage. If you are interested with the said feature, you may check the model IS8151-4.

My mom needs to be able to dial a favorite with only 1 or 2 button pushes. She confuses easily, can this phone do that?

Any reason why the Unit and camera continue to reach out to Chinese Servers when connected to the Internet? I noticed that it continues to reach out via my Firewall on all devices including phones when the app is installed.

How long is the battery life? Does it only work on Wi-Fi or is there a loca option as well?

Hi - The VTech RM7766HD is capable of Router and Direct mode. Router mode will enable you to monitor remotely using the app which can be downloaded on your cellular phone. While the Direct mode will allow you to immediately stream video out of the box using the parent unit. The battery life of the parent unit depends on the setting selected on the parent unit.

Can the camera operate without the wall mount when traveling? Perhaps placed on a table or dresser nearby?

Stanley - The camera of the VTech RM7766-2HD will still function even without the wall mount. You can install it on a tabletop instead.
