What is the advantage of using onboard storage vs an sd card?

I'm considering the 64 gb version of this tablet with an additional128 gb sd card. Is there any advantage of the 64 gb tab s2 over the 32 gb version? What advantage does the onboard storage offer that the sd card cannot?
Not all apps can be stored to SD storage so the more onboard storage you have the more apps you can run.
