It wants me to format the disk, should I do that?

I am using Windows 8.1 and I accidentally chose to format the disk and now it won't work. I have unplugged it and re-plugged it in and now it does not show up in the control panel or in devices and drives. I also am planning to use it on my Windows 7 laptop and when I plug it in to the computer, it does not give me the option of installing the software when I click on the drive. When I open the drive, it also wants me to format it.

Yes, when you reformat the hard drive it will format it correctly so it registers.
