Every DVD player displays its video in either NTSC format or PAL. NTSC is the video format used in the U.S.A., and PAL is the format used in Europe. If you want to play DVD's purchased in the UK you will need a DVD player that plays DVD's in the PAL format, and if you want to play DVD's purchased in the U.S.A. you will need a DVD player that plays DVD's in the NTSC format.
