what is the best laptop for a photographer?

Without knowing your specific needs it would be hard to suggest a specific model, but when shopping for a laptop for photographic purposes you should consider the size and resolution of the screen, the speed of the processor, hard drive space, and how much RAM the laptop has. Most professional photographers swear by Apple Macbooks, but if you’re a PC user I would look at Sony laptops.

Suggestions for fast shutter speed & good zoom?

I am looking to purchase my first digital camera. The main feature I am looking for is a quick shutter speed to catch my kids in action at their sporting events, and then also a good zoom so I can see them. My price range would be less than $150.
If your goal is to take photographs of your kids at sporting events, a camera that has a 10x optical zoom or greater would be preferable. This is going to be difficult at $150 or less. Some other features I would look for is, continuous shooting mode, sports mode, and image stabilization. Within your price range the Canon A590IS might be a good fit, but it only has a 4x optical zoom so you're going to have to get a lot closer to your subject. A little more money would go a long way towards getting you a camera that best fits your needs. I would also consider purchasing a memory card with a high write speed, because this should allow you to take consecutive images faster.

can you recommend a great shock proof digital camera?

I like the SW series of cameras made by Olympus. They are not only designed to be shock proof, but also waterproof. Being waterproof means they can be taken underwater to a specified depth.

Which camera is best for when taking photos with a good lens

I want to take pictures at a sci fi convention next year and want pictures of the actors from the show not the back of people's head
Which camera has the lens I need.
I am assuming this means you will not be close to your subjects. If this is the case, what I would look for in a point and shoot camera is a lens with at least a 10x optical zoom. If this will be an indoor event you will most likely need to use a flash, and the flashes on point and shoot cameras are often not powerful enough to light distant subjects properly. I would actually suggest looking into purchasing a DSLR with an external flash that mounts to the cameras hotshoe. External flashes have two benefits when shooting indoor subjects at a distance, they have much greater distance coverage than built in flashes do, and they will greatly reduce red-eye in photographs.

JVC - Everio Digital Camcorder

Can you get a remote control, to stop and start, etc, from a distance to go with this camera?
Best Buy® does not sell a remote control for this line of camcorders, but most of the camcorders in this line come with a remote control. Under the specifications tab it should tell you if the remote control is included or not.

Where have all the HP's gone?

In November of 2007 Hewlett Packard announced they would be no longer manufacturing digital cameras. They continued to sell their cameras thru the 2007 holiday season, but are no longer available to retailers.

This question is regarding a price match

I had bought a HDTV for 1299 on Sept13 of this year and today the price is 999 Can I get a price match
For HDTV's within 60 days from the date of purchase Best Buy® will match our own price or a local competitor’s price as long as the TV is in stock, and is not on clearance sale. It sounds like you should be able to get a price match from the information you provided.
