Yup, it's a mouse pad. It has a pattern on it. Just like pretty much every other mouse pad I've ever used. I mean, it is kinda thin, so that's nice I guess.

I was waiting for a warranty replacement part on a far more expensive unit of another brand, but wanted to get some cleaning done while waiting. As such, I didn't want to pay a mint for a 'temporary' unit, so I went with the lowest priced one I could find. Sadly, the suction on this is lacking.

My biggest complaint is that no matter where I tweak power saving settings, it seems this thing goes into some kind of 'standby' mode after not being read from or written to in a while. This then leads to a good 30 to 60 second 'pause' when I try and pull up data from the unit. I did get it just to store data where access speed wasn't a big factor, primarily trying to keep my documents off my SSD. However, I was expecting the usual 'slow because of spinning disks' issue, not this one.

Perhaps the only problem with Western Digital is that high performance is their norm. Had more luck with WD hard drives over decades now than any other brand. Unit looks nice enough and operates fairly quietly. My only complaint is that somehow it always seems to go to 'sleep' after extended periods of inactivity. I've attempted adjusting various USB settings to no avail, and I'm sure the fault is somewhere in a setting I have. It would be nice to have a pretty straightforward 'don't go to sleep' option in config from the manufacturer though.

how do you TEST the unit to make sure that it works. I currently have a sump pump connected to it.
Quick and dirty test is to yank the power cord from the outlet you have the APC plugged into. I'm sure there is another way via the buttons/software interface, but as long as it keeps powering anything on the battery side once you unplug the APC from the wall outlet then it is good.

what is the correct use of this battery backup I have- phone-printer-modom-speaker-wifi- monitor In which outlet do I use to plug them in to which slot-----surge protector or battery surge I am very confused thank you
It all depends on which ones you want to work once power goes out. Battery/surge means that outlook both provides surge protection and offers battery power if the power to the outlet fails. Surge merely offers surge protection and anything plugged into those outlets will turn off when the power to the outlet fails.

Every time an air conditioner, garbage disposal, etc turns on in my house, this thing beeps LOUD in my home office. How do I turn it off?
It came with a USB management cable, if you attach the cable to your PC from the device you can then run the management software and change the alert settings. I believe it came with the management software as well, but the manufacturer's site should have the latest version if you can't find that. The management cable that came with it is just a standard USB "A to B" style cable, if I'm not mistaken. That's in case you can't find the one that came with the device.
