I'm looking to add an SSD to my Alienware 13 r3. Is this SSD compatible with my laptop? If not then any recommendations guys?
Open up your laptop and if it has a conventional hard drive then it will work. If you do not see a conventional looking drive, then you already have a solid state drive in it that looks like a piece of memory stick. What type of partition table does this drive have,windows 7 install says it needs a GPT?
Seagate 1TB internal ata drive,m/n st310005n1a1as-rk.
It will take any type of partition table that software can create.
For Windows 7 to Windows 10, it will work without any problems. Just install it and format it with the default settings. You do not need to worry about the type of parition.

Yes it will work. You will need to format it once it is installed and after Windows has installed the drivers for it. You will then have a new drive letter to access it by.

What is the full model number? This looks to be an old system that takes IDE drives and not SATA drives.

Can I use this hard drive to replace the original hard drive. Apple support was of no help and could not / would not supply me with a list of compatible drives.

Windows is software and this is hardware. Two different animals. This hard drive comes with nothing on it.
If you are wanting to install a larger hard drive and clone your existing drive to it, then yes it will work in your computer.
You have an extra slot so you can add this drive as a secondary drive. Once formatted, it will have its own drive letter. You can then use it to store all your documents, music, videos, etc. on it instead of the original drive.

Can I use this internal storage drive (Model # ST310005N1) for backup of the main computer data?
If you are going to mount it inside a the computer, then yes. You could also go with an external USB hardd rive.
But then what are you going to do if a tornado or hurrican comes through and you main computer and your back up drive wind up miles away in a lake? Or a fire destoys both? Or a burglar takes both?
You should consider a cloud based backup such as Carbonite. They backup immeaditaly without you having to do naything.
