No problems thus far. I'm not a big fan of Linksys since Belkin bought it from Cisco, but this switch *seems* to perform well for the simple tasks that I need it to do (multiple devices sharing a single connection, home lab testing). It was on clearance when I bought it, so I took a chance.
I would recommend this to a friend!

How do i get the blink amber light to stop

my router has a blinking amber light and i followed the instructions in the manual on how to fix the issue, but it continues to happen. The internet will not work and i am not sure what the problem is.
I have a cable connected modem.
If you've followed the manual's instructions to no avail, you might also try a full factory reset of the router. If that doesn't work, I suspect a hardware problem with your router.

I forgot my wifi password. Can i request a password change?

Belkin router- Model F9 K1113b4
There should be functionality to do a password reset via email if you configured it during the router's setup, but you don't have to do that if you have Windows Vista, 7, or 8/8.1 (haven't tried with XP). Google for 'windows vista, 7, 8 find wifi password'. The result from 'howtogeek' will show you. Doing a factory reset of the router will also work, but you'll lose all of your settings.

connecting

can I connect my laptop, wii game console, and Directtv all at the same time???
Yes - I wouldn't expect three simultaneous devices to bog things down too terribly much.

What netgear to pick???

Im looking a buying a netgear router but i really dont know what to buy. we are renting a netgear 450 right now and i'm not sure if this is the best for me
Depends on what you're looking for and why you think you need/want a router. The N450 is a 3rd-party cable modem with a built-in router. If you plan on staying with your cable provider for a while, maybe buying a cable modem makes sense (depending on what the monthly rent is...the N450 is approximately $100). Your options appear to be as follows:

1) Buy your own cable modem and stop renting. The N450 has a built-in router, so you wouldn't need to buy a router also (unless you're wanting to customize things. Your provider may not approve of doing that with their equipment.)

2) See if your provider has a standard modem that you don't have to rent. Then ask them if you can use your own router with their cable modem - if yes, pick up a cheap Netgear N300 for $50 and stop renting.

3) Keep renting.

What is the best wireless router out there at an affordable price?

I have a 10+ yr old router and when watching Netflix it reconnects very frequently and becomes very annoying. We have an ipad, 2 iphones, a kindle, a laptop and a Blu-ray player that we use to access Netflix. When I called Bright House they told me to look for N or G but not sure how this NETGEAR - AC1200 compares. I has good reviews. Thanks for your help!
The AC1200 router appears to be N- and G-compatible. It's hard to go wrong with Netgear; I've always had good results with their equipment.

can a slow internet feed go faster? or is that wishful thinking!

in other words , can i make a slow feed like 1mbps...go faster! like an upgrade from a controlled box to a faster one like this?
The only way to increase your Internet speed is to pay for it. Adding a router (or replacing a DSL or cable modem with a 3rd-party device) isn't going to increase your Internet download speed. I suggest talking to your provider about other packages that they may have.

Is this router faster than linksys wrt54g?.

Currently have 2 iPads, 2 iPhones and generic tablet. Internet speed is much slower than I'm paying for. Will this improve speed?
Not enough info to answer the question. What Internet service do you currently have (cable, DSL, satellite)? Do you have your own router, do you use your provider's equipment, or a combination of the above? Internet providers *always* oversell their bandwidth, which means that Internet speeds will fluctuate at times, which means that you won't always be getting what you're paying for. Is it possible to have a dedicated connection to your house? Sure, but that's not cheap. If you have your own router, what make/model is it? Does your Internet speed seem to fluctuate at certain times of the day?

If all of your devices are online at the same time when you see this drop in speed, it may be that your router can't handle the load.

NETGEAR - RangeMax N600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Router - Black
Choose this NETGEAR router and receive high level wireless security, the ability to share photos, music and more, and a way to keep track of your kids’ activity online. Plus, with easy installation for tablets, smartphones and computers, you’ll be able to start enjoying Wi-Fi throughout your home right away.

Can it Port Forward?

I would like to know if this router will allow me to port forward. My router does allow me to as it has a tab called applications and gaming.
I'd be shocked if it didn't. Every router that I've used since the early 2000s has had port forwarding capability.

Do I also need a modem?

We are moving into a housing complex that has free WIFI. The property manager states we just need a router and when we plug that in our internet will bring up a home page asking us to set up an account to the service which will offer faster speed upgrades if we want. Does this sound correct? We are trying to get things lined up right away so it works when we move in.
My answer may not quite fit because your post is a little vague.

Do you mean free *WiFi* or free *Internet*? You wouldn't need your own router if there's free WiFi - all you'd need is the SSID (network name) and passphrase (if any). You'd also possibly be on the same network as everyone else, which isn't a good idea (no privacy, and very little security).

If you mean free *Internet*, it depends on how many devices you have that need Internet access and whether or not they're wired or wireless.

If you have phones, Tablets, gaming consoles, and other wireless devices, you'll need a router.

If you just have desktop/laptop computers that only need a wired connection, you can probably get by with a network switch (5, 8, 16, 24-port, depending on how many devices you have). Hopefully this helps a bit.

Questions before I buy...

Hello, so I am seriously considering purchasing this router but I want to clarify and make sure of a few things first. First of all, I currently have one router in my house. It's an AT&T router and it's located in my living room, even though we pay for the highest speed it still sucks. My plan is to buy this router and place it in my room for the use of my devices which are; 2 laptops, 2 PS4's, 2 iPhones, 1 DS and 1 Xbox 360. I have 3 questions concerning the fact that I have an AT&T router. 1. will I need to connect this router to the one I already have. 2. will I need to hook this up with my internet provider or can I just take it to my room, plug it in to the phone jack and have internet? and 3, can I have 2 routers in the same house? Those are my first set of questions, my other regard how well this router works and other questions. 1, will this router support the devices listed above not just one at a time but multiple at a time. 2, if you've purchased it how often if at all do you have to restart or reset it? and 3, how fast is the download speed? I think that's all of now hopefully some of my 'essay' get's answered soon haha. Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully take the time to answer some of it.
I know that yours is an old post that has probably been answered, but here's my $.02:

If you just want to extend the wireless range in your house, consider a range extender. A range extender will likely save you from many of the steps below.

1) Yes, you will need to connect this to your provider's (AT&T) modem. To do this, you will need to change the AT&T router to bridge mode (their tech support can talk you through this). Once that's done, you connect the Ethernet cable from your AT&T modem to the WAN port on the Netgear. You'll probably need to configure the Netgear to automatically obtain its network info from AT&T (contact Netgear support about how to do this).

2) See my answer to question 1. You won't be able to just plug this into a phone jack and have Internet; the phone cable will fit, but the Netgear doesn't understand phone line signals.

3) Yes, you can have multiple routers in the same house, which might be a good idea if you have multiple wireless devices that need Internet access at the same time - multiple routers to isolate these devices may give you a bit better performance. No, you don't need a dedicated router for each device :)

8 devices all online at the same time may bog your network down. Try it with one router, though, and go from there.

4) Yes, the Netgear will support the devices you've listed (and multiple devices at once). I've never heard of a WiFi router that won't support a given device.

5) I've bought several of these for personal projects and business clients. I've never once had to reset one.

6) Your download speed is determined by your Internet provider.
