Awesome features but a bit bulky and slow

Last week I received the Brother MFC-L3770CDW Color laser printer for my home office. I have used several other MFC (multi-function color) printers before – both Laser and Ink Jet, and was excited to give this one a try as I’ve been having scanning-to-pc connectivity issues with another popular brand recently.
The first thing you notice is the size and weight of this unit. It weighs in at 54 lbs. and is roughly a 16”x20”x16” cube. You’ll need ample space and a study table or counter top to place this machine.
Setup was a smooth and easy. Unpack, remove all the shipping tape and tabs, install the toner, attach to the wireless network and BOOM – you’re printing. Mine detected a software update within the first 5 minutes and quickly downloaded/installed it. The 3.7” LCD display is intuitive and easy to use – and also informed me of that software update.

I installed the full Brother Utilities software on my desktop computer from the freshly downloaded nearly 500MB file and let everything be setup as default. The printer has NFC features for the Android phones, but the iPhone I have doesn’t support that. Never fear – the AirPrint capabilities worked flawlessly – and allowed me to print out pictures with no trouble at all!
A couple things I really like about the printer include:
1. A large paper source tray with the ability to handle Legal paper as well
2. The multi-sheet document feeder on top – which has worked well with my test stack of 20 pages – some with folds in them. It is able to handle 50 pages at a time!
3. The Duplex scanning features – and the scan to PC worked great on the first attempt – a big plus as compared to other MFC’s I’ve used in the past.
4. The 30 sheet multi-purpose paper tray – works great for using special paper without having to switch stock out of the normal 250 sheet paper tray.
5. To copy or scan pages from a book or magazine, the document feeder lifts up about an inch or so to accommodate the thickness of the object – a nice feature!

Overall – this is an excellent MFC device that will work well in a home office or small office with multiple users. The toner cartridges are rated at over 1000 pages each – and are individually replaced as needed. It’s very quiet and with the duplex features, automatic document feeders and integration with most major cloud document servers – you can’t go wrong. I gave 4 stars vs 5 only due to the relatively slower start-print time and slightly less distinct prints as compared to my MFC ink-jet.

Truly an Ear-Opening Experience!

My teenage kids often complained to me that our movie sound system just didn't sound as good as some of their friends. My existing 5.1 system sounded decent to me, but I could hear an obvious difference when visiting friends and listening to some music or watching TV.
Enter in these Sony - 4" Dolby Atmos Enabled Elevation Speakers. WOW! I didn't think they would make as much of a difference as they did, but movies and music are much more immersive and the depth of the sound is much better.
I have them temporarily hooked up as shown in the pictures, but plan to elevate them a bit and have them sit on top of my bookshelf speakers when I can get the wiring run. The 7.1 setup truly delivers great sound - I'm guessing you won't believe how much of a difference they make to your system. I have a hard flat ceiling and plan to bounce the sound from these "up-firing" speakers right to my ears. Use your receiver's speaker calibration microphone to get the best (and easiest) configuration for your setup - I ran it after I hooked up these Atmos speakers and it was simply awesome. I had 3 teenage boys in the movie room when I was doing that and to say they were quite impressed is an understatement.
What's nice is that you can slowly add components like these to you system (as long as you have the right receiver) to get to an Atmos solution - versus going out and purchasing a whole new setup. Plug in and light up your outdoors. Simply plug in and connect to your existing Hue bridge to enjoy the 16 million colors available to enhance the beauty of your yard or create any ambiance you like. This base kit provides three light points and all cables/power supply you need to get started. Lily landscape spots are fully weatherproof. Hue bridge is not included.

Add some color to your home exterior!

I love my Philips Hue lights! I was excited to get these Lily Spots installed and see how they worked! They were super easy to install and the wires/connectors worked great! I had ample length of cable to reach my outlet, as well as put some distance in between the lights as you can see from the pictures.
I use the "Other Routine" function, and have all of my Hue lights come on at a specific time in the evening, and some shutoff around 1 AM while others - like the driveway lights - stay on all night. Very easy to build rooms and routines like this.
For the Lily product, I decided to keep them shining up onto the rock pillars - again seen in the pics. My only wish is that they would come on to a preset color or maybe an option to come on based on the last color selected. Right now, they all come on in a white mode. I'll dig into that further.
Otherwise - these are rock stars! I've received several compliments from my neighbors on them and probably sold a few sets. That seems to happen often with the technology I use. If you are looking to add outdoor lighting - these are so much better than the cheap solar lights and you can customize the colors at any time!

I'm excited to write this review of my #1 earbuds - the Jabra Elite 65t! I had the product for roughly 3 weeks now - and waited a bit longer than normal to write my review to ensure I didn't find something wrong that I wasn't expecting - and the fact that I've been travelling a bit more lately!
Let's get to it - hands down, the best workout (running, lifting, cardio-machine) earbuds I've tried. The overall design, a grippy finish and snug fit make them the most secure earbuds I've had in my ears thus far. Other earbuds I find myself readjusting about every 5-10 minutes to ensure a good fit or they start feeling loose - not these!
Did I mention I sweat like crazy - yes - even in my ears. The IP56 rating makes these sweat-proof - and for added testing I've consistently worn them in the Lifetime Fitness steam room with excellent sound and results. No issues thus far with water what-so-ever!
For sound quality - I find these produce a nice balanced sound that you can tweat a bit with the Jabra app. For truly wireless earbuds - I feel these produce the best sound of nearly any on the market - and I've tested many!
The built-in accelerometer allows you to count steps or pause the music when you remove them from your ears (you can also double tap of the right ear button to allows ambient noise through - called HearThrough - so you can can have a conversation if needed while wearing them). The passive noise-cancelling feature is bonus and of course doesn't use precious battery life.
Speaking of batteries, a full charge gives roughly 5 hours of play time and a quick charge feature can add 90 minutes of playtime in only a 15 min charge. I also love the charging case! I provides two functions for me - one helps me so I don't lose them (since they are pretty small) and also provide 2 additional full charges for those times when your travelling or camping and don't have a convenient plug-in nearby.
As part of my job - I am on conference calls nearly all day. While I have a dedicated headset for this purpose, I thought I'd give the 65t's a try. I was pleasantly surprised at the audio quality, and my call recipients were equally impressed with my voice quality! While these will not replace my fulltime headset, they would work great as a substitute if needed!
Overall - I'm very impressed with these earbuds and will promote to them to the coveted #1 spot on my go-to list. Nice job Jabra!

Easy install and setup!

I'm not normally lazy, but I hate getting out of bed to turn off the hall or stairway light after all the kids climb into bed. Enter the TP-Link HS210 Smart switch! I installed the smart switches on just one end of the 3-way switch to allow me to stay in bed and use the app to control the lights - or from the main level, use Alexa to control the lights!
Depending on your switch config, you may have to purchase a new cover plate - like if you have 3 normal switches and now you installed one of the HS210 switches with is a "wider" switch style. Obviously, it won't fit into your existing narrow switch cover plate. No biggie - they are like $5.
If you haven't installed electrical switches before, be careful and shut off the power. Take before photos so you know how to connect them - and to revert back if you have issues!
Overall - very cool and functional addition to the house!

The Superior Robot vacuum in my house

Yes - I'm a bit of a tech geek. I have 3 robot vacuums - one on each floor of my 3 level home. Each vacbot is a different model - so this was a good test. So far - I think I like the Samsung vacbot the best - here's why.
1. It's got great suction and it is QUIETIER.
2. It cleans in corn rows (straight lines) unlike one of my other vacbots that just bounces off things.
3. It has both an App and Remote that allow me to drive it around, chase the cat, focus on a spot, etc. Neither of my two other vacbots have that.
4. Mobile app is very easy to schedule a cleaning time. "Ollie" cleans my floors tirelessly 6 days a week at 10 AM.
5. This vacbot was top pick in the Consumer Reports robotic vacuum roundup. I use Consumer Reports quite a bit when making purchase decisions.

The only bad thing about these vacbots is they are a little difficult to empty out the dust bin. On the Samsung, you actually have to disassemble a few parts to do it. It works ok - just adds a few steps to do daily.
Occasionally, all my vacbots get lost and I have to carry them back to the base station, not that big of a deal to me. Also, then sometimes get stuck by or under a lower piece of furniture - and the Samsung is not different in that regards.
Overall - I plan to "promote" Ollie to cleaning my main floor and "demote" one of my other bots to the basement. They are a little pricey, but will admit that I don't use my Dyson vacuum as much anymore except on tougher spots - you can't beat the suction power of a corded vacuum with a robot vac just yet.
Curious? Take a chance and see how it does for yourself! I bet you'll keep it!

Clever Camera - creative uses

To be honest - I was a little unsure how to "test" this Google Clips camera. I already have my house monitored by 8 wireless cameras, so I wasn't sure of how to use or where to place it. After thinking a few days - BOOM - I had an idea!
In the last few days, I've been attend High School Graduation parties. I decided to clip the camera on the photo boards that the graduates are displaying - capturing candid shots of the guests as they walk past looking at the pictures! AWESOME! We got some pretty cool shots!
The camera itself is impressive. It has 16GB storage, a large 130 degree field of view and takes live photo shots! My only complaint is the 3 hour battery life. You have to recharge it everyday at a minimum - so just another thing I have to remember to plug in.
The concept is great - but I'd like to see an 8+ hour battery. I turned it on before the 4 hours grad party started so I could gather some of the setup, and burned through an hours and a half of the battery - so only could capture 90 minutes of the party....
I'd also like to see a few different mounts come standard. Perhaps a suction cup, larger clip and adjustable angle.
Overall - if you're looking for a new perspective on your photos - this is a very cool addition to parties, events and normal family life!

Every once in a while a product come along that really impresses me. This Canon IVY mini photo printer is definitely one of those! I've impressed more that a few people at recent graduation parties by taking a selfie with the new grad and pulling this little printer out of my pocket and creating an instant photo for them! They absolutely love it!
There are a couple things to know:
1. Takes about 30 seconds to print a picture. Kinda long, but for the convenience and cool factor - not bad.
2. It holds 10 sheets of paper and you should buy paper by the 50 pack. You'll burn through them quickly at a party as everybody wants a photo shot.
3. The pictures are really convenient wallet size - people throw them in their wallet and carry them around.
4. Full charge takes a little over an hour.

Great sound, decent noise cancelling, fits well!

Overall - great fit in my ears and very comfortable. Others have complained about comfort - but I guess it's really personal preference! Even with Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) turned on, I get just about 8 hours of run time and a quick 2 hour charge! These Jabra 65e's have "EarGel" ear pieces, helping to block out noise withing even being turned on and make them for comfortable for duration wearing!
The snug fitting buds hold tight to my sweaty ears even during workouts - a definite plus. The con is I find myself taking one ear bud out when trying to talk to people.
I commute on a public bus to avoid rush hour traffic, and these work just great for that! Block out all that unwanted bus and traffic noise.
Great for listening to audio books! The neck halo is comfortable, but eventually I'll likely upgrade to true wireless earbuds and not have the wire draping around my neck.

My friends tell me the call quality is good - and could be easily used in the car - just be careful as you may not hear other driving sounds that are important to you! I find myself NOT using the hands free features and talking with on the bus though - looks to much like I'm talking to myself and to easy for others to hear.
Use the mobile app to tweak your listening experience a bit - not necessary but kind of cool.
Unfortunately, they did not come with a bag, pouch or case of any sort. A bit of a miss in my opinion as many of us will take these on the go and just have throw them in the bag or backpack with the rest of your junk. I suppose the quality build and materials can take it, but would have been nice to include a case.

Easy setup, stunning sound distribution!

I’ve burned through several receivers over the last 20 years – and have kept upgrading my equipment to match the technology it drives – and this Sony DH790 is no exception as I needed it to handle my 4K TV and my first attempt at Dolby Atmos sound.
What is Atmos? It’s even greater surround sound – based on sounds objects vs sound channels. It’s been described as “To help deliver this vision, Atmos equipped cinemas have side speakers that start from the edge of the screen and go all around the auditorium, additional subwoofers and two speaker arrays going directly overhead. Since its launch Atmos has been installed on over 650 screens in 40 countries, including 9 screens in the UK, and 120 films have been made with Dolby Atmos soundtracks, including Gravity, Godzilla and X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
One of the first things I noticed with this unit is the accuracy of the sound setup with the microphone. Set the microphone on your favorite seat and run through your speakers – it’s adjust the sound automatically and accurately – more than I can say for many of the receivers I’ve owned. As experienced with many other users, I can finally hear my rear speakers for both movie viewing and audio listening!
With more than enough power, 4K and 3D pass through features and very reasonable price – you can go wrong if you’re in the market for a solid receiver!

These are PASSIVE noise cancelling - meaning the tighter you make the fit - the better the noise cancelling will be. Active noise cancelling uses battery power to help mask sounds - the JBL Free X version DOES NOT do that. Likely you will be able to hear a little of the loud music...

Well....stereo sound REQUIRES a Left and Right channel. This headset can work with just one earpiece - the RIGHT one, as the left earpiece depends on the right earpiece. So YES, you can use one earpiece, but you won't have stereo sound....

Yes - but they will work with only one phone at a time. This is standard for bluetooth technologies. You may find that if both phones are in the room and you power up the headphones, it may connect to the wrong phone. You'll have to forget the device or disconnect from them if that happens.

Trying to find a system that works in a house over 4000 sq feet. WiFi extenders didn’t work. Have a Spectrum WiFi router. What router is compatible w/Spectrum that I can use with mesh system. Do nodes just plug in? Will be used for iPads and phones only.
The great things about mesh WiFi systems is you can just keep adding nodes. You can have 2,5,8, whatever you need - then next node just needs to be withing range of the previous one. So even if you have a 10,000 sq ft home, you could have 10 nodes strategically placed all over!

If I buy this Mesh system here in the United States, can I use it in the Middle East to enhance the coverage in the home I'll be staying at, that currently has DSL?
As long as you have the right power adapters, they will work with in any location. Networking isn't any different in the Middle East - but power might be. Be sure to check on that thoroughly.

This is a 12lb vacuum - so not the lightest but it's also a combination upright, stick and hand vacuum. You can separate the pieces to make it lighter to carry - one in each hand - and can even vacuum like that. I think it's pretty powerful for being electric - and states it can run up to 50 minutes on a charge.

Once Office 2019 is installed, icons for the office products will be in your Windows start menu - and you can pin to the taskbar or desktop if you like. Does this help I'm not sure what you're asking....

Yes - you can transfer or move a purchased software from one computer to another - providing them meet the requirements of the application (like OS version, etc).
