Solid, punchy and Awesome!
on April 20, 2025

Today I offer my thoughts on the Sony ULT Field 5 Portable Speaker. I’ve used MANY portable speakers over the years – and the first thing you’ll notice on this one is the weight. It’s a beautifully compact and stylish design, but the magnets and battery (along with a quality build) definitely make this speaker solid and hefty!
I have a Sony ULT 7 speaker as well, which is a bit larger and even heavier – but this compact ULT Field 5 really produces a sound comparable to its bigger cousin. The Field 5 has a dedicated Connect button making it easier to pair with other compatible Sony speakers and unfortunately the ULT 7 doesn’t have this button and I couldn’t get the two to pair together for Party Connect. In the past I’ve used Party Connect with other Sony speakers and it was also a bit flaky to connect up. This is the main reason for the loss of a rating star.
Sound wise, this compact speaker really packs a punch. With two bass modes ULT1 for rich bass sounds and ULT2 for more aggressive, punchy bass, you’re able to switch to your personal preferences easily or just change it with the music!
The Sony Sound Connect app is your gateway to more settings – like controlling the lights, updating the speaker’s software, access to a customizable equalizer and more. Definitely a must have for better control of the speaker.
Built with an IP67 environmental rating, you don’t need to work about taking your speaker to the pool, beach, lake or camping. It’s even saltwater resistant – so just carefully rinse it off if the tide comes in to quick and surprises you.
A decent battery life of 25 hours is touted, but that depends on your sound levels, light usage, etc. If you run out – just a 10 minute quick charge can give you another 100 minutes of play time.
Overall – I like it. It’s smaller size and weight will make this my go to campfire speaker. Probably a little to big and heavy to take on a plane, but if I’m driving to a vacation – this is coming with!

Secure your Digital Crypto keys now!
on March 22, 2025
Posted by: TechMatcher
I’m trying to keep up with the digital world as I begin investing in cryptocurrencies, and I’m securing my digital keys on an offline hardware wallet!
Enter the Ledger Flex – Ledger’s newest addition to their already comprehensive HW wallet lineup. I decided to move to a HW wallet after hearing countless stories of digital asset theft and loss - and it’s something any savvy crypto investor should be considering – seriously.
For this review – I’m focusing on my user experience during my first transfer from an exchange to the Ledger Flex device. Plenty of other reviews already talk about the product, what’s in the box, initial setup, etc. It went smoothly for me as well – until I started my transfers.
I’ll admit I’m new to the crypto world, and I was a bit nervous moving around $1000’s of dollars of assets hoping they just won’t disappear into the ether. To ease my nerves, I decided to follow the instruction EXACTLY. However, I soon found myself asking some questions as the instructions to transfer assets from Coinbase to my new Ledger Flex didn’t match exactly. Yup – made me nervous and also made this product lose a star on the review. My suggestion is that Ledger should be verifying these instructions from at least the 10 most popular exchanges on a weekly basis or maybe even more often. The last thing they want is for a customer to feel unsure when they are transferring assets that may have significant value.
After watching several YouTube videos by Ledger on the subject – I fumbled my way through it with a small transfer of $100 – just to see if it works. And it did! With that success under my belt, I setup another currency account and verified my unique address and proceeded to do another transfer. SUCCESS. And I did that several more times with increasing amounts.
I will continue to transfer more until I’ve moved as much as I can from the exchange to the Ledger Flex. I’m currently happy with the Flex and feel a bit more secure knowing I have control of my digitals keys vs relying on the exchange.

Good value - average performance
on March 17, 2025
Posted by: TechMatcher
My business is IT – so I see all kinds of laptops, desktops, all-in-ones everyday day. Today I received the HP - 15.6" Full HD Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD - Natural Silver, Model:15-fd0127dx and gave it a run.
Setup was a breeze – like most Windows PCs today. No glitches or issues right out of the box.
The initial impression is that it’s a clean-looking machine, light with a small 45 watt charger. Weighs in at less than 4 lbs total including charger. HOWEVER, the first thing that caught my eye is the old-style round plug charger. I just can’t figure out why manufacturers don’t just leverage the more modern USB-C charging that many of today’s laptops already have built in. Can it really save you that much money? HP – if you’re reading this – we’d love an explanation! That took 1 Star off the review immediately.
Next, once setup, I began to surf the web a bit and type a few documents. In fact, I’m typing this review on the very device – and I’m notice a bit of funkiness with the keyboard. I guess it just doesn’t really feel solid to me as it gives in a little bit when typing. Also has a very plastic-like feel and click to the keyboard. May not bother you – but I notice it.
The screen is very nice – although not 4k quality, it will suffice for most business and productivity use cases – as this is NOT a gaming laptop. It folds out to about 120 degrees, feels solid when using the touchscreen (doesn’t seem to move if you have light fingers) and produces nice colors and clarity.
This model has a large touchpad that works well and feels responsive. It supports multi-finger gestures, and I feel it is suited to this mid-range laptop style.
On all my machines, I use a Passmark Performance Test tool to compare the main components. Overall – this machine produces decent CPU test scores and great SSD hard disk scores (see attached screenshots). It lacks a dedicated GPU (which is why this isn’t a gaming rig) but it will work perfectly well for everyday surfing, streaming and office work.
Lack of more USB-C ports lost this machine another star in my rating – you only have 1. You have two other USB-A ports available – do don’t plan to plug lots or peripherals into this laptop unless you have a USB-C dock.
Overall – it’s a fine machine for everyday use, just a bit on the lower side for specs and performance.

Large but Capable Multi-Function printer!
on March 5, 2025
Posted by: TechMatcher
The HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e is not your average home or small office printer. It’s packed with features, can print on A3 and A4 paper and is significantly larger than most home printers – so keep that in mind!
I’m involved in a landscaping business on the side – so I was very excited to be able to print larger plans for my clients. Showing a larger version of their front or backyard, or even the deck/patio upgrades really makes a difference. Add to that the beautiful colors and borderless printing – it’s a winning combination.
HP has been building printers for many years – and it shows with the ease of setup and connectivity. I had multiple laptops and mobile devices connected shortly after unboxing. Airprint connectivity is a game changer for contractors, landscapers, realtors and more. Nice to be able to print so easily.
I’ve use the HP Instant Ink feature before – and genuinely feel this is also a game changer. You can start with the free 3 month trial, use that time to figure out your printing needs then convert to the subscription that makes sense for you. When your printer is running low – ink automatically shows up at your door, and you send the empties back for recycling with the included prepaid return envelope! Nice job HP!
I also do quite a bit of scanning with my printers – like right now at tax time when I want to get all my documents electronically to my tax preparer. The Automatic Document Feeder hold up to 35 sheets (even 11x17) at one time, so it makes quick work of your scanning needs. I typically Scan to PC – and have had some troubles with this feature from time to time – thus the 4 stars out of 5. If HP can get this rock solid, I’d give 5 stars for sure.
Overall – I really like the printer – even though it is quite a bit bigger than others due to the 11x17 capabilities. Would I recommend it to a friend? Sure – and already have.

Impressive features and functions!
on February 2, 2025
Posted by: TechMatcher
I have owned several robotic vacuums over the years from various brands, and the latest addition to my home cleaning scene is the Eufy E20 3-in-1 robotic vacuum. This is the first vacuum I’ve owned with a self-empty station – and I absolutely love it! I literally emptied my previous vacuums 2x a day, so whether that’s because I have a Labrador Retriever and a cat or just carpet that seems to be coming apart – it was annoying and sometime time consuming. Those days are no longer, as this little robot auto-empties a couple times during a cleaning cycle! The base station bags should last 30-60 days depending on how many pets you have and how dirty your floors are. As of yet, I haven't found a good place to buy these bags (they don't appear to be reusable) and Eufy is Out of Stock online. Also haven't determined if other Eufy vacuum model bags are compatible - maybe Eufy could comment on this if they read the review!
OK – setup was a little tricky for me, and I had to take the vacuum and place it literally 3 feet from my Orbi router. Also – I had to enable the IoT network feature on my router to ensure I was getting a 2.4GHz signal vs a 5GHz signal as well. Just know that in advance and make sure you can support both frequencies.
Once connected – it has worked great. It started out by mapping the perimeter of the floor and I’ll admit I’m quite IMPRESSED with the details of the floor plan. Other vacuums gave you a map of the home as well – but none nearly as detailed and complete as this. See the attached photo. After mapping, it did it’s first cleaning cycle with was fun and interesting to watch. Nice straight lines on the carpet is what my wife noticed. I noticed it was significantly quieter (on the standard suction setting – there’s ECO, Standard, Turbo and Maximum).
The 3-in-1 feature is quite handy for quick cleanups using the integrated nozzle right onboard the robot, or using the extendible floor head you can attach to the motor. I find this is perfect for stairs, and I don’t even extend it out as the smaller and more compact size makes cleaning the steps easier and lighter than any vacuum I’ve used before. While using it with the floor head, you can change the suction levels by pressing the power button. Simply hold the power button to turn it on/off as needed.
Yup – quite impressed with this little vacuum and it and won the coveted primary robotic vacuum spot on my main floor. Nice job Anker!

Nice fit, decent sound!
on January 16, 2025
Posted by: TechMatcher
I’ve had the opportunity to own many pairs of headphones and earbuds. I have become partial to earbuds that have an ear-wrap piece to help keep them in better. The Jlab Epic ANC 3 buds fill the bill nicely, and I was excited to get them.
Coming in a nice charging case with both a USB-C male and female connection – which was great thinking by Jlab – and provides the best flexibility for charging. Nice work. Combine that with the 68+ hour battery life and you have an incredible combination for travelling and workouts leveraging a once a week charge! That’s a first for all my earbuds!
Sound quality is nearly as good as you can expect from such tiny devices, yet Jlab figured out a way to leverage a dual-driver solution to produce decent bass to crips highs. Quite a feat for these small devices.
Active Noise Cancelling is also built in. Jlab calls is smart active noise cancelling that continually listens and learn to better identify sounds it should try to reduce. I assume the learning take a little time, but as of yet haven’t really noticed that is has been learning much. I can tell a difference when it is working though – so it’s another clever idea!
Overall – I’m happy with these stay-put earbuds because there’s nothing more annoying that walking around or working out only having to stop frequently to adjust them – which doesn’t happen with these!

WOW! My family loves it!
on January 15, 2025

If you don't have a soundbar for your TV and you're just using the built in TV speakers - you're missing out. After hooking up the Klipsch - Flexus CORE 210 soundbar and wireless subwoofer, our home TV and movie watching experience went from "meh" to "WOW"! Literally - that what my family said when we turned it on!
Lots of great features - from the TREMENDOUS bass powered by the160W 10 inch subwoofer and the surround-like experience produce from the soundbar - I can't say it enough on how much it enhances your experience.
In movie mode, the Dolby Atmos simulates a multidimensional audio environment that really puts you IN the movie. It's the next level of Dolby that we have grown used to over the last 20 years.
The Klipsch Flexus Core looks as good as it sounds. My picture show it temporarily sitting atop an electric fireplace, but we'll get it mounted with the included brackets very soon. It's sleek, wood-grained black finish and easy access buttons make this an elegant addition to my entertainment area.
Overall - this is a fantastic product that produces exemplary sound and totally makes your entertainment area look great!

Nice 2 for 1 case deal! Now my Primary case!
on December 21, 2024
Posted by: TechMatcher
I recently upgraded to the iPhone 16 Pro phone, so obviously needed to buy a bunch of accessories, charging cables, screen protection and phone cases. Early on I went with a Crytal clear model that touted a special button for the new iPhone 16 Capture button on the lower right side. However, I found that when placed in my holder in my car – it squeezes the button and causes the camera to take pictures of my dash – hundreds of them!
Enter in the Pela case. Instead of a protruding Capture button cover, they opted for a recessed area instead – which solves my auto problem! Way to go Pela!
So aside from being made from plant and very durable, I like the look of my fleck-black case. It doesn’t feel too slippery in my hands and also isn’t super sticky. It’s a nice combination of grippiness and function. Integrating a MagSafe Module is a great forward-thinking plan that provide us (the customer) with more options! Thanks again Pela!
Lastly – this Pela case comes with a Bonus Custom Case Activation code – how can you go wrong with that? Nice job Pela – I like and recommend it! One of my friends already bought one too!

Absolutely the best over-the-head headset!
on December 7, 2024
Posted by: TechMatcher
I work remotely and have for the last 10 years. This mean I make LOTS of phone calls – I’d say I’m on the phone 6-7 hours a day. Needless to say – I’ve tried many headsets – and have always come back to the BlueParrott line. Yes – I have several. This newest one, my Blue Parrott B650-XT, is the best and most comfortable of all!
People didn’t used to believe me when I talked about Noise-Cancelling features of my BlueParrott. So – to show them, we hoped on a Facetime conversation and we have a chat while he watched me vacuum! No kidding! I could barely hear it. I’ve done the same with the Lawn Mower and Snow Blower – not that I make a habit of talking and doing those things – but you could!
So – the specs. You guys can see those yourself. I like to talk about usability. So – just went to Waco last week and took my B650-XT with. I have a Second Ear Cup – which can be plugged into the 650-XT to make a stereo headset. I used it as such, plugged my 3.5mm cord into the airplane, activated noise cancelling and enjoyed my flight! Awesome!
I charge my 650-XT probably every 2-3 nights, and have never been without power. It’s written that it has 36 hours of talk time. Other things that are nice – near field communications to pair easily, Multi-point pairing to pair two devices at the same time (but use on one at a time), comfortable ear cup, great range and a customizable BlueParrott button for you to select a variety of features from.
So there is one thing I don’t like – but I feel it’s an iPhone issue vs BlueParrott. When on a conference call like a Webex or Teams call and I receive a mobile call from someone – it interrupts my conference call and I lose audio for a few second (always right when I’m talking). Then, it loses it again a few seconds after you deal with the incoming call. Quite frustrating and my reason for only 4 stars vs 5.
Overall – extremely happy with the BlueParrott 650-XT and recommend you get one too. If somebody from BlueParrott reads this and has question or thoughts about the issue I pointed out – feel free to reach out!

Great price and excellent starter drone!
on November 22, 2024
Posted by: TechMatcher
The Contixo F28-Premium GPS 4K Gimbal Camera Drone is not my first drone. I already have a more expensive one (over $1000) that I use for landscaping and photography, but I thought a smaller and cheaper drone might be good to have on hand.
The drone comes packaged really well with a nice carrying case, the drone itself, a remote control, a landing pad, extra propellers, the battery, a charging cable, and a manual. It DOES NOT include a USB charging block—as we all have plenty of those nowadays.
Initial setup had some hiccups, but overall, it went well. The initial calibration process might have caused a bit of a problem, as the first flight had the drone veering off quickly to the left and forward. I had to crash it to try again, but after another calibration, it worked much better.
Flight controls are pretty snappy, though not as crisp as more expensive drones, but that’s understandable. I tested the height limits and various features, and all worked well. I tried the point of interest function where the drone flies to 49 feet and does a slow turn while videoing the point of interest below. I have uploaded that for you to see—if I can upload something more than 100MB. Ideally, I would like it to spin much slower so the images below could be more easily viewed. I’m sure that’s just a setting I’ll find when I try it again.
I noticed a bit of lag with the camera when the drone was further away. Again, not something I experience with more expensive drones, but for the price, the features on this F28-Premium drone worked well. Subsequent flights replicated the same features but were a bit less noticeable.
Stability might need some work. When I flew, there was maybe a 3-5 mph breeze—so not much. As you can see from the hover video, the drone slowly drifts around—something you should know in advance.
Overall, this is a capable drone at a great price point and would be great for beginners and intermediate flyers to hone their flying skills and have fun doing it!

Perceive every detail of your music with this pair of JBL wireless headphones. The 10Hz to 22kHz frequency response lets you enjoy the full range of sound, while the in-line microphone provides an effortless switch to hands-free calls. Featuring 5.6mm dynamic drivers, these JBL wireless headphones supply rich, resonant bass for your enjoyment.

Are these noise cancelling for gyms that play really loud music?

These are PASSIVE noise cancelling - meaning the tighter you make the fit - the better the noise cancelling will be. Active noise cancelling uses battery power to help mask sounds - the JBL Free X version DOES NOT do that. Likely you will be able to hear a little of the loud music...

Can you use one ear piece by itself without affecting sound quality?

Well....stereo sound REQUIRES a Left and Right channel. This headset can work with just one earpiece - the RIGHT one, as the left earpiece depends on the right earpiece. So YES, you can use one earpiece, but you won't have stereo sound....

Yes - but they will work with only one phone at a time. This is standard for bluetooth technologies. You may find that if both phones are in the room and you power up the headphones, it may connect to the wrong phone. You'll have to forget the device or disconnect from them if that happens.

Regardless of shape, size, or wherever your Internet comes in, Velop can be customized to your home. Which makes it easy to add more nodes as your home and family expand. Unlike traditional routers with range extenders, each node provides a powerful Wi-Fi signal throughout your entire home. It continuously self-organizes and optimizes to find the fastest path to the Internet for seamless Wi-Fi everywhere. Individual nodes may be connected wirelessly or by Ethernet for fast, reliable connection. This is an ultrasimple and powerful system that uses only one Wi-Fi network name and password to give you seamless and secure Wi-Fi. And leading-edge security lets you block content and easily pause the Internet for dinner or homework. It works with all Internet service provider supplied equipment and speeds, and its simple app-based setup will get you up and running in minutes.

Trying to find a system that works in a house over 4000 sq feet. WiFi extenders didn’t work. Have a Spectrum WiFi router. What router is compatible w/Spectrum that I can use with mesh system. Do nodes just plug in? Will be used for iPads and phones only.

The great things about mesh WiFi systems is you can just keep adding nodes. You can have 2,5,8, whatever you need - then next node just needs to be withing range of the previous one. So even if you have a 10,000 sq ft home, you could have 10 nodes strategically placed all over!

If I buy this Mesh system here in the United States, can I use it in the Middle East to enhance the coverage in the home I'll be staying at, that currently has DSL?

As long as you have the right power adapters, they will work with in any location. Networking isn't any different in the Middle East - but power might be. Be sure to check on that thoroughly.

Clean those hard-to-reach places in your home with this Shark cordless vacuum. Its bristle brush deep-cleans any carpet, and the additional soft-roll brush pulls in larger particles from wood floors while polishing them. The rechargeable, high-capacity Li-Ion battery keeps this Ninja cordless vacuum's DuoClean Technology ready for tough cleaning chores.

I need a lightweight vacuum for medical reasons which would you recommend? Also one that is powerful!

This is a 12lb vacuum - so not the lightest but it's also a combination upright, stick and hand vacuum. You can separate the pieces to make it lighter to carry - one in each hand - and can even vacuum like that. I think it's pretty powerful for being electric - and states it can run up to 50 minutes on a charge.

For families and small businesses who want classic Office apps and email installed on one Windows 10 PC or Mac for use at home or work. Classic 2019 versions of Office apps including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Plus, OneNote for Windows 10.

How do I access my applications after I’ve installed Office 2019?

Once Office 2019 is installed, icons for the office products will be in your Windows start menu - and you can pin to the taskbar or desktop if you like. Does this help I'm not sure what you're asking....

If I purchase Office Home & Business 2019 (1 Device) (Product Key Card) - Mac|Windows can I transfer it to another computer if I chose to upgrade

Yes - you can transfer or move a purchased software from one computer to another - providing them meet the requirements of the application (like OS version, etc).
