The latest excellent Spectre 360 from HP
on November 24, 2018
Posted by: Robs
from Indianapolis
The HP Spectre x360 15 continues the fine tradition of the HP Spectre line of laptops, and it a wonderful purchase for the home, classroom, or office. I found the design to be sleek and elegant. The housing is a dark gray with gold highlights along the edges, around the touch pad and hinges. The hinges feel very strong and durable even while touching the screen. The bezel on the sides is very thin, with a thicker bezel across the top due to the webcam. The keyboard spacing and feel was very nice, with a full number pad to the right. The touchpad is centered to the laptop, not the keyboard because of the number pad. The power button, fingerprint sensor, and volume toggle are all along the side of the chassis. I found this to be an incredibly wise move because it allows those controls to be used easily when the laptop is all the way in tablet mode. To the left of the chassis, you'll find the power button, charging port, full-size USB 3.1 port, speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a full-size SD card reader. On the right, you'll find a Thunderbolt 3 port, a USB-C port, HDMI input, speaker, fingerprint sensor, and the volume rocker. It did feel fairly bulky especially as a tablet, but not unreasonable for a 15-inch screen. The 4K display looks very sharp, whether watching movies or looking at text. Because of the limitations of the GPU, it won't make a great gaming computer but had no graphical slowness with any other applications. The sound coming from the side was crisp and sounded very nice. The sound didn't blow me away, but it was nice. The laptop does come with Windows Hello face recognition technology and fingerprint scanner. The face recognition worked quickly and accurately. The Spectre comes with a stylus that requires an AAAA battery. The stylus has two buttons and had the weight of a normal pen. I didn't notice any lag while writing on the screen, and it paired automatically. For me, with just normal use, the battery lasted a little over seven hours on a charge. For the price, this is an impressive 2-in-1 laptop that can do just about everything but AAA gaming. It has a very nice display and the battery lasts a long time. It isn't a huge leap from the previous Spectre but the improvements are nice. I would highly recommend this laptop.

Very nice headphones
on November 19, 2018

The Crusher 360 is an impeccable set of headphones. On top of having a strong feel and a sharp design, the sound it produces is really amazing. The headband is metal, and I appreciated the nod to durability. The earcups are memory foam wrapped in fabric. The earcups fold into headband easy to store or travel with in the included travel case. One earcup has the power button, USB/charging port, and 3.5mm aux jack, as well as the sensory bass control. The other earcup has 3 buttons that control volume, pause, and skip. Now for the sound. The low end has some good kick, and the mid-range and highs sound balance. As a side note, there is no active noise canceling with this unit. When you start turning up the sensory bass, it starts to make the music even more enjoyable. The sensory bass feature is what makes this unit a limited edition. The sensory bass literally lets you feel the bass in your bones by turning the drivers into a personal sub-woofer. You can adjust the level of sensory bass to your taste. Personally, I found the middle level to be about right, feeling like I was in a car with the bass turned up. It was great to use this unit with movies or TV with crashes or explosions. You really feel them physically, like a theater experience. The Crusher 360 does have a pretty good battery life. A full charge will get you roughly 30 hours of listening time, and the quick charge is a nice feature. In my opinion, this is a headphone that can make any music lover truly appreciate the music that they’re listening to.

Newest Yoga iteration is excellent
on October 16, 2018
Posted by: Robs
from Indianapolis
This is another high-quality laptop from Lenovo. This newest iteration of the Yoga would be a great addition for almost anybody, including students, professionals, and even casual users. The laptop has a slim, minimal design and feels very light at just under three pounds. The screen has a very thin bezel area but does have an area for holding the Yoga while configured in tablet mode. The screen is full HD (1920x1080) and looks excellent in all of the various configurations. I did feel that the default brightness was not particularly bright in well-lit areas, which made me turn it up to 100% but at the expense of some battery life. The Yoga includes a Windows Ink stylus which is excellent for users that need to quickly take down some notes or use drawing applications. The stylus is housed in a built-in area in the back. This can be a little frustrating when trying to get the stylus out, as it makes it hard to get the stylus out in some laptop configurations and is located in a location where accidentally hitting the power button is a real possibility. I want to take moment to talk about the new hinge style because it is innovative and useful. The hinge is completely flexible and strong, as you would expect for a laptop that allows multiple configurations, but the fantastic part is the Dolby speakers that are built-in to the hinge. They sound amazing, not just for laptop speakers but for any speakers. Because the speakers are in the hinge, they will direct sound in the correct direction aiming at you no matter which configuration the laptop is using. I don't know if there are other Yoga-type laptops using this feature currently or not, as I have not seen it before, but I expect this feature to become standard because of the usefulness. The keyboard is backlit and felt good on my fingertips, and the touchpad worked well with accuracy. Battery life depends on how you are using the Yoga. With light use, I was able to get over ten hours on one charge. If you are using applications that are more processor-heavy, you are looking at about three hours. When the battery is very low it takes about two hours to fully charge. The Yoga includes some nice security features, such as a biometric fingerprint sensor that works better than many I have seen on other laptops and Windows Hello capability using the webcam. There is not a SD Card slot. As is common with these light, sleek laptops, there are not many ports: two USB C Thunderbolt 3 ports and one full-size USB 3.1 A port. Charging utilizes one of the USB C ports, so if you use other peripherals that require power or connections a USB hub is going to be a necessity for you. There is not a HDMI port. The Yoga comes with Windows 10 and some useful software that comes with Windows. Some other specs:
Processor: Intel Core i7 Quad Core 1.99 Ghz 8th Generation
Storage: 256GB SSD
Memory: 12GB RAM
Built-in Bluetooth and WiFi (2.4 and 5 Ghz)
Overall I found the C930 Yoga to be a very nice, premium, multi-function laptop that will be an excellent laptop for almost any use. It feels like it is built with quality, looks good, sounds really good, and can be taken any place you need to take it for use for hours.

Awesome Electric Razor
on October 16, 2018
Posted by: Robs
from Indianapolis
I liked this razor right out of the box. It has a sleet, modern look with a premium feel. It feels ergonomically pleasing in the hand and has a nice heft to it. The razor has a digital LCD readout for battery level and other details. It has a very quiet motor but it certainly isn't weak. It has three levels of shaving intensity and I never felt the need to go beyond the lower two power levels. It has Nonotech precision blades which give a great shave. I used the product on day-to-day shaves, and once with three-day growth. The shaves were the same, with no tugging or pulling. The shaves around the curves in my face were very close and the trimming attachment worked well with my beard. Cleaning is quick and easy, and the shaved hairs came off very quickly. It charged in just under an hour. It comes with instructions, charger, a trimming attachment to shape sideburns and beards, and a hard shell travel case with zipper. I have had electric razors in the past and did not particularly care for them. This electric razor has changed my mind, and I would recommend this premium product for all men, even those used to straight razor shaves.

Excellent Soundbar
on October 11, 2018
Posted by: Robs
from Indianapolis
I have enjoyed the sound performance of this excellent Samsung soundbar. I have a large TV that sits against a wall facing a large open room, and I find the sound quality for that setup to be amazing. To begin, it looks very nice. It feels very sturdy and has a fairly simply design. The unit has a black finish with brushed metal edges and rear. I have it sitting underneath my 65" TV, but I appreciated that it came with a wall bracket and associated parts for other setup options. It has some weight to it, but then again it has 13 drivers forming 7 speakers: 3 front, 2 wide, 2 upwards. The LED display on the front is located to the right of the soundbar, and shows all the usual data. The soundbar uses touch-sensitive buttons to control power, volume, and inputs. The remote feels very normal. The connection side of the soundbar is on the bottom, and includes 2 HDMI inputs,1 HDMI ARC output, optical input, USB port, the power connector, WiFi setup button, and the button for subwoofer pairing. All HDMI connections support 4K at 60p, HDR10, Dolby Vision, 3D, and HDCP 2.2. WiFi and Bluetooth are built-in to the soundbar; WiFi is controlled by the Samsung SmartThings app and bluetooth pairing was easy. In my experience, the subwoofer paired automatically and I had no issues with the pairing being dropped. Also, the subwoofer has an 8-inch driver on the side. The soundbar is tuned by Harman Kardon and supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS Digital Sound, and DTS-HD Master Audio. The soundbar speakers are supplied with 372W of power and provide frequencies from 34Hz to 17kHz. There are 3 sound modes: Standard, Surround Sound Expansion, and Smart. I always used Smart and thought everything sounded great. Yes, the soundbar will work with Alexa. Setup was very quick and simple, compared to other speakers. There are no microphone towers or anything complex for setup. I was quickly able to get to the enjoyment of listening to the sound coming out of this unit. Like I said, I have never heard better sound given the setup of the TV and soundbar within the room. There was a solid wall of sound that filled the room with complete range, and that applied to both TV, Blu-Rays, and music. Given the formats that this soundbar supports, the number of drivers and speakers, and the ease of use, I don't see much competition at this price point for a 5.1.2 system. I feel that this is simply an excellent sound bar.

Very Nice Wired Speaker package
on August 19, 2018
Posted by: Robs
from Indianapolis
I believe this package contains a very nice speaker package for the yard or garage, but keep in mind that you will need stereo wire. This is not a wireless speaker system. The package includes two Sonance Mag 06 outdoor speakers (wired), a Sonos Connect amp, and an iPort xPress remote keypad/controller. The two Sonance speakers are weatherproof and fairly large. Mounting them was fairly easy with the included mounting braces, but consult a help video if you are new to mounting speakers as there are some choices to be made on height and whether to mount horizontally or vertically depending on how you might want to move and adjust the speakers. Again, these will require stereo wire. I used 10 gauge wire and that worked well. The Sonos Connect amp was easy to setup and comes ready to stream from your favorite service. It basically works as a receiver for the system but you could integrate an existing receiver that you may have into the system, too. The amp is not weatherproof. The whole system produces high-quality sound at a nice volume that will fill a yard or garage. The only negative aspect of the system for me is the iPort xPress keypad. That is because it only works with iOS devices, and not Android. I only have Android devices so I'm hoping that the app is released for Android so that I can utilize it. If you are an Apple person, this won't apply to you. Otherwise, you can utilize the buttons on the amp to control the syste. Overall, I am very pleased with this system based on the items that it includes, the ease of setup, and the sound it produces. Just keep in mind that you will need stereo wire, and an Apple device to take full advantage of the keypad controller.

Solid choice for PC headset
on August 11, 2018
Posted by: Robs
from Indianapolis
In my opinion, this unit is a solid choice for a PC headset for any purpose. I got these more for work, rather than playing games, and I have been very happy with the performance. The headset is comfortable on my head all day, and since moving to these from my previous headsets I have received compliments on the voice quality. The long battery life means I don't have to manage charging through the day, and I specifically got them for the wireless range (much better than bluetooth). I also like that when I move the microphone up it mutes my audio, and it also makes an "beep" to know I'm muted. They are easy to connect to the dongle and will tell you how much charge that remains. I would recommend these for anybody!

Sleep better. Cover unwanted noise with soothing sounds. Bose noise-masking sleepbuds™ are uniquely designed for sleep. They don’t stream music or have acoustic noise cancellation. Instead, these tiny, wireless earbuds use pre-loaded, soothing sounds to cover up unwanted noises, so you can get to sleep — and stay asleep. Plus, unlike traditional earplugs, they’re super comfortable and made to stay in place all night long, even if you sleep on your side. 1. Choose your sound, 2. Set an alarm, 3. Fall asleep without unwanted noise.

Excellent Product that Helped My Sleep
on July 5, 2018
Posted by: Robs
from Indianapolis
This is an excellent device for what it does. The price tag might seem high from an outside perspective, but for some it will be very appropriate for a good night sleep. For me, these earbuds worked better than any white noise machine or other earbuds when it came down to drowning out night noises and helping me sleep. It is important to note that these earbuds do not play your own music, just to be clear. It comes loaded with 10 different sounds or tones that you can cycle through and select, such as stream, waterfall, wind through leaves, etc. I found the sounds to be high quality, with different pitches and without noticeable loops. The earbuds are controlled solely by an app that I felt was very clear and easy to use. I appreciated the alarm feature for the earbuds via the app, too. Since I imagine most people will use these night and thus will be using the app at night, too, it was important to make it easy for a groggy person to operate and Bose succeeded. I will note that if you have a sleeping partner that sleeps lightly, they could find it annoying when you turn on your phone in the dark to operate the app. There is simply no other way to control the sound options or volume of the earbuds. The earbuds fit very nicely in my ears. They are quite small and felt soft, but also stayed in my ear for as long as I wanted without falling out or becoming uncomfortable. It comes with three different earbud sizes, and the app helps you determine which size should provide the best experience. I will note that there can be a noise from the movement of the hard plastic on the outside of the earbud as it moves against a pillow case. It isn't outrageous but I did notice it. It also comes with a very nice quality case, as expected from a Bose product. The case made the earbuds easy to charge, and the case was easy to use and operate in the dark. The only issue I had with this product was that they don't shut off automatically, which would have been a nice feature. For example, if you take the earbuds out and place them in the case, they will continue to play all night long or until you turn them off manually via the app. This was more of an annoyance than a deal breaker for me, but I wish that at the very least there was a manual on/off button on the earbuds themselves just to alleviate needing to open the app one more time. Overall, I feel that my sleep has improved noticeably using these earbuds. They don't block out everything, as they are just earbuds after all. But it is hard to beat the combination of performance and comfort. Just be aware of what this product does precisely, and know that you'll need to use the app to control everything. I have really enjoyed using these earbuds and I look forward to better sleep!

Good Gaming Monitor
on June 21, 2018
Posted by: Robs
from Indianapolis
I found the ACER XF251Q Gaming Monitor to be a good value for the cost. It may not have all of the inputs and options of more expensive monitors, but it is better than average and comes at a very competitive price. First, it looks very nice coming out of the box. The bezel is very narrow on 3 sides of the sides, with an average bezel along the bottom. The stand has 4 legs, with 2 of the legs being parallel to the bottom of the bottom and the other 2 legs sweeping slightly backwards. The monitor is VESA mountable, if desired. The inputs are VGA and HDMI, and it was very easy to hook up. It was nice that it came with both a VGA and HDMI cables. It does support AMD Freesync through the HDMI input. Gaming looked very good on the 24.5 inch LED FHD (1920 x 1080) screen, as long as your viewing angle is fairly straight on. The response time is listed as 1ms with a refresh rate of 75mhz, and I did not experience any ghosting or flickering. Brightness is listed as 250 nits with a contrast ratio of 100,000,000:1. The viewing angle is listed as 170 degrees horizontally and 160 degrees vertically. Personally, I found that to be just a little generous with viewing decreasing noticeably as I sat to the side. That said, I do almost all of my gaming by myself, sitting right in front of the monitor, so this was not an issue for me. The monitor does have 2 speakers which I found to be about average for small monitor speakers, and I was pleased to find that the monitor includes a jack for headphones. You can find gaming monitors with UHD capability, more input varieties, and that are more friendly for wide viewing angles. But for the price of this monitor, with the features that it has, I believe this to be a very good FHD gaming monitor that will be excellent for a small to middle-budget gaming setup.

Good Robotic Vacuum
on June 4, 2018
Posted by: Robs
from Indianapolis
This Samsung robotic vacuum is average in my opinion. It has good features, but they are negated by bad features. This is the second best robot vacuum in my home, behind an older model. This unit comes with a remote control which was interesting and useful. I liked having the remote to control and program the vacuum. Most vacuums these days are controlled purely by apps or Alexa commands. I found that it helped me to get the vacuum going very quickly, too. Another good feature is the suction power. There are three different levels of suction that can be chosen, and the more suction you select the more battery is used. On the highest suction level, I only got a 30 minute cleaning before it needed to charge again. But that could be useful in certain situations, like needing to get a room done quickly. On the middle suction level, the charge lasted about an hour, and on the lowest suction level the charge lasted for a little over an hour and a half. The suction worked well on carpets and hardwoods. We have a dog that leaves a good amount of hair behind, and the hair pickup of this unit is substantial. But, that is balanced by a small and hard to operate dirt tray. I am used to emptying the dirt tray just a few times on my other vacuum for the entire house. With this unit, I had to empty the tray a couple times just for one room. It adds up to a lot of time spent emptying the tray. This vacuum spends much of the time wandering around and not following any discernible pattern. It is supposed to have enhanced pathfinding, but I did not see it in action. The vacuum became stuck between chair legs and couch legs for long stretches of time. The app is supposed to have a map that shows the cleaning path that the vacuum took but what I saw didn't make sense so it wasn't useful. It seemed to even have issues finding the base to charge. From past experience, I know that sometimes the vacuum needs to be fairly close to the base to pick up the homing signal, but it was only finding the base about 75% of the time. This unit does charge fairly quickly so for an entire house there is quite a lot of the vacuum traveling back and forth to charge and then operate. But most of these trips should be unnecessary if the vacuum was more efficient with pathfinding. I am not sure this will ever be our primary vacuum, even with the great suction. But, I could see it being handy if you lived in a home with a medium-small to small footprint and had very few obstacles to avoid.

The headset is very light, under 1 pound. Good for long sessions. Some users have reported some tightness or pressure against their ears from squeezing. That is so subjective though.

Stream lifelike sounds from your Bluetooth device with these Skullcandy Crusher VRA headphones. Immersion35 Tech and Supreme Sound deliver stereo-quality audio and powerful bass, and the memory foam ear cushions provide comfortable use. These Skullcandy Crusher VRA headphones collapse to fit into the included protective travel case for easy portability.

What does it mean by limitied edition? Like is it only gonna be up and available for a certain time or is it only for the color scheme?

I believe the Sensory Bass is what makes these headphones a limited edition. They will really rattle your head.

How well do these work for silencing out loud snoring from your bed partner?

In my experience, it works very well at focusing my mind on the sounds or tones that are being produced by the earbuds so that other noises become unnoticeable. I can't say for sure that it will drown out every variety of snorer as you will still be able to hear very loud noises. What I liked is that the 10 noises that the earbuds come with seem to have a unique pitch, and I'm thinking that it would be crucial to find the best noise/pitch that matches the pitch of the snoring. I think you would have success.

Do they work with Android phones?

Yes. I have Google Pixel XL, and the app controls everything. No issues with Android.
