Waiting for better technology

Since I have slept poorly most of my life, I thought this would help track a pattern. I was very excited to get it and find out it is NOT a watch!!! So, I followed the instruction, got the app, got the bluetooth set up. placed it under my 18" mattress, and set all up and went to sleep. The first night showed how poorly I slept. The second night I tried it with a sleeping pill and the marked improvement was amazing! The third night I could not get the unit to connect to bluetooth. Suggestion was to close out of the app, get back in and try again. So, I am laying it bed, all wires are hooked up, and I forgot my password. I am not getting out of bed so night 3 was a waste. The next day I got all re-logged in, checked the unit and it is still plugged in, but still not connected to bluetooth. No matter what I did it would not stay connected for more than a minute. I got mad and frustrated and said to heck with it. I will try again this weekend however there are a few things that bothered me.
1) this drained my phone battery over night so I had to charge it in the morning,
2) all the wires going from the unit to the plug to the phone...my cat just wants to play with them all and there is a LOT hanging out.
3) In the app I could not scroll all the way down so no matter what I tried I could not get the info
4) How the heck does this count my respirations through an 18" firm foam mattress??? Does the phone listen?
5) and NO PETS ON THE BED??? SERIOUSLY??? My cats would barf in my slippers if I didn't let them sleep on the bed.
So, not happy but I will keep trying. In the mean time, I suggest waiting for technology to improve.

Great gaming mouse-that tracks your every gesture
on January 11, 2019
Posted by: EAR1965
from Groton NY
The Razer Mamba Wireless:
What’s in the box:
- Mouse
- Wireless adapter
- Custom fabric USB cable
- Wireless extension connector
I started it up with the cable, since it needs to charge first. Battery life is supposed to be almost 50 hours. The initial DPI (dot per inch) setting was WAY too twitchy for normal PC apps, but the two extra buttons in the center let you adjust that, by default. The feel in the hand was good (for me – I have large hands). This mouse in on the heavier side, but lighter than, for example, the Corsair Dark Core mouse. The two thumb buttons are easy to use. If you’re left-handed, you could probably use them with your 4th and 5th fingers (it felt a little awkward when I tried doing that with my left hand, but then I’m not left-handed). The mouse has low-friction glide pads on the bottom, which resulted in occasional drags when I wanted a click, but that might just be me.
So then I wanted to customize the mouse. Guess what, this mouse requires an online account! As far as I can tell, there is no way to run the customization software without getting a Razer account first. This might be of value to someone who wants a full lights-and-sound experience on their gaming systems, but I just want to add keystroke macros for the additional buttons. I’m knocking off a star for this – I shouldn’t be forced to get an account to use a MOUSE! Why did they make this design decision, hmm… the privacy policy implies that they may collect your individual patterns of keystrokes and mouse gestures. Did you know that (as reported recently), your mouse gestures are as individualized (and identifiable) as your fingerprints?
Once logged on, the Synapse software was reasonably easy to use, and in a few minutes I had one left-side button set for CTRL-Z (undo) and the other set to pop up the Windows calculator. (Just to try out the options.) Setting up the CTRL-Z macro was easy enough, though I spent some time wading through all the Chroma features first. Clicking the CRTL key gives you two entries in the macro list, key down and key up; clicking the “Z” gives you two more. They don’t end up in the right order, because you want CTRL down, Z down, Z up, CTRL up, but then you can drag them around to where you want them. So yay, it passed my little mildly difficult macro test.
Finally I plugged in the wireless adapter (it's well hidden under a door in the bottom of the mouse), and did a little range test. It easily reached the whole room, just stuck in the top of my tower, so then I went into the next room, about 8 m away. Yup! Down a floor? Yup! Down two floors and 15 m away? No, but it would have been silly if that'd worked. So it has plenty of range.
So in conclusion – Good hand feel, good switch action, lots of speed when you want it, great range and looks, easy enough to customize. But why force users to get a Razer account? Grr.

OK, maybe not...but... it is a huge time saver!!! Fits anywhere on my desk, slips into a drawer easily when not in use, takes an excellent scan, and I just love it! We use it now for all tax deduction receipts (you know, those pesky little things that get lost easily)and other receipts, and we use it for our small business scanning. We have not tried a photo yet so I cannot attest to that.

Extremely easy and quick set up, to the point that I thought we were doing something wrong, but we were not. Drawbacks on instructions is there was no suggested place to mount camera- I chose center. Now I have a cord running down the center but thats OK- its not bothersome for me. Driving down the road I was taking a GREAT video of the tree tops as I could not see where the camera was pointing while driving. I did stop and got it adjusted and it took a beautiful video of our drive. When we got home we connected the camera to my computer and I was impressed with the video and the sound. However...I took a snapshot in the video and could not view it as a clear pic. Both me and the car coming toward me were traveling over 30mph so I can understand blurry pics at 60 mph (see attached pic) However...again...I took pic from a video of a car in front of me, and I still could not zoom in. I have attached that here. There was also a reflection of my dashboard - see pic. It is a fun little camera and will come in handy for a few things I am sure. But it is just not able to zoom in to pull a plate number.

Use the Google Smart Light Starter Kit to control the lights using just your voice. Set up in a snap: just plug in Google Home Mini, screw in the GE C-Life smart light bulb, and download the Google Home app to get started. Then just say "Hey Google" to dim, brighten, turn on and turn off the lights."

I already have the google assistants in my home, but I wanted to add the 'lights'. It was easy to set up, but sometimes jumping through the hoops to connect the app to the light to the phone to google can be a pain. It is a great safety item and I do recommend it. Its also great to play tricks on unsuspecting guests (and kids). The technology will be improving as it is not as seamless as it could be, but for now...it is great

Maybe I have not played enough with it, but it is a coffee pot with a timer. One thing I do like is the coffee stay hot on the "burner" and never tasted burnt. But it does as it says.. a fancy coffee pot with a fancy timer. Oh, and I recommend a paper filter as the permanent filter allows sludge through...just like all permanent filters.

Make sure you read the instruction
on November 28, 2018

Great little oven but the cons listed below take it down a star. The first con is a devastation to me!!!
So, first time use was a casserole. Since I had just put it together, I would put it in the oven while preheating. So I did. I heard it ding and assumed it was at temp and would cook. 5 minutes later I checked and the oven was off. Annoying. So I did it again. Did the same thing. Super annoying. So I decided to read the instructions. Not plug-and-play. Very complicated for a toaster oven. Had to babysit until the preheat was done.
We don't eat toast so I cannot attest to how the toast option works. I have only used bake...many times
Lets list the cons and pros:
Cons-
Will NOT fit a regular size frozen pizza
Not simply a turn on and go unit
Complicated to where you need to be standing there until preheat is
over
Pros:
Cooks nice and even and quick
Big window to watch
Looks good

Lots of fun!!!
on September 28, 2018

First time really flying a drone, so this the view from a newbie. Got drone. ...it rained a few days, but at least we read the directions, downloaded the app and updates, and got it all charged up. ..then we were working until after dark, then it rained for a few days. Then we had a good day, but the battery was dead. Or something was wrong, anyway - the drone wouldn't turn on. So we went back home and plugged it into a charger. There were some flashing red lights and then it settled down to green, showing half charge. After that it seemed fine. Not sure what that was all about. Perhaps it will warrant an update later.
So, finally got a great day. Put phone in the holder on the controller and away we went!!!
(Controller does NOT have that great grip on phone- EASY FIX PARROT.) Drone is very quiet with just a buzzing sound. Video is beyond stable - almost unreal. Probably normal for a drone at this price point, but amazing! We brought the drone to eye level and the recording of us is, well, kind of spooky. It looks sentient.
Oh, and TAKE THE LENS COVER OFF BEFORE FLYING, just a suggestion.
Micro SD card - you have to remove the battery pack and slide and tilt up a tiny metal cover to access it. It seems like Parrot could have come up with something more durable and convenient. At least you can use the USB C cable to download your video instead.
Parrot has made the actual flying super easy even for a beginner, but do read the directions first. You'll want to let it to lock onto GPS before you launch, for example. Leave it in photo mode while you learn to use the controller; the very slow default settings will give you the time you need to fix mistakes before you crash. Oh, and those trees and buildings around you? They get really close really fast, and the drone doesn't have obstacle avoidance, so practice at first in an open field or parking lot. Find a flat surface for launching and landing; it complains if the blades are hitting grass.
Overall, both the drone and the controller feel well made, not cheap. It was a little disappointing that the real-time video update on the phone was, well, not real time, which made setting the camera tilt angle tricky. Nice feature, though, and the video we got from it was fantastic!

Are you an engineer?
on July 12, 2018
Posted by: EAR1965

Box came well packed- nothing would move! Amazingly one of the little support bars was bent and twisted. There was no way this was done in transit. Anyway, my brother in law straighted it out- easy fix. So, then came the "putting it together" phase. After a few hours, many cuss words, and an engineering degree, we got it together correctly. So on the stove it goes! We cheated and used a rising crust frozen pizza and it really did a kick-butt job. Crust was perfect, toppings melted perfect- just like out if a pizza oven. So, dinner was a success! Clean up was a bit different. This thing put off heat, which is why you need that fan going. We ended up putting it carefully in the oven to cool down. The pizza stone in my oven is perfectly seasoned and it will take time for these pieces to get seasoned so just a wipe off of the solids! I can't wait to make bread in it! The reason for only 4 stars is the time it took to put together and the heat involved- it heated up my kitchen. I would recommend this as it is fun!

Nice TV
on June 17, 2018
Posted by: EAR1965
from Ithaca NY
Maybe I am not "techy" enough but I have not found anything special about this TV. Oh wait...the base. I LOVE this style of base- it seems much more stable then my last TV. I have internet only at my home- cable is just too expensive! I also have Netflix and I do NOT have Amazon Prime but it appears that to use this to the full potential I must have cable AND prime. All out of my price range.
Set up was easy- I had my house-mate do it and he had no problems. We could not get the remote to do anything beyond turning the TV on and off, so after 3 battery changes, I called the help line. While on perm-hold we unplugged the TV and plugged it back in and it works! Oh, and what is up with the the no manual movement? The pic is great and I am sure if I can sit down and play with it for a few hours I will understand better

The Shark Cordless Pet Plus Vacuum with Anti-Allergen Complete Seal combines powerful suction with cordless convenience to deliver deep cleaning on all floor types. Its lightweight design and removable hand vac allow for cleaning from floor to ceiling.

We live in an 1100 square foot apartment. Mostly hardware floors. Could this work as your only vacuum? (except for a small handheld we use for corners, etc.)

I think it would be great! The top comes off for storage and the attachments work perfect. My house is over 2300 sq ft and it completes in one charge.

Wemo WiFi Smart Outdoor Plug gives you total smart control over your lights, holiday decorations and other outdoor devices. Featuring two splash-proof and weather-resistant outlets, you can set schedules and control two devices together from anywhere by using the app or your voice with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, or Hey Google.* It’s perfect for the patio, yard or other spaces where you’d like to manage electric outlets. You can also use Away Mode to randomly turn porch or landscape lights on and off when you’re not home. Sync lights connected to the Smart Outdoor Plug with the sunset and you’ll walk out to a backyard that’s ready for evening activities.

I actually have 3 questions. Is this device gfi protected? Can I control each outlet separately? I’ve yet to see a straight answer on that question What are the current and temperature ratings for the device?

I spoke with an electrician and he states that since the instructions suggest to plug into a GFI, it is not a GFI itself. I have not tried to control each separate and I do not see where I can so I would say No. I am unsure about the other questions- sorry!!

The Filtrete™ Maximum Under Sink Water Filtration System 3US-MAX-S01 is easy to install and maintain. It's an under sink water filtration system that connects to the kitchen or bath faucet.

Can the filter be turn off if I am using the faucet for other than drinking water? Will it still use the filter? Shorten the 6 month life span on the filter?

I think you would have to remove the filter and reattach the hose. Not very convenient if done often.

I purchased this Ninja less than month ago, love the features, but not yet excited about the taste. Getting a lot of thick sediment on the bottom of the cup immediately when poured and moments after it's been brewed. PLEASE help...I love my coffee!

That is a problem with permanent filters. I use size 2 (size 4 for the full pot machines) cone filter and that will remove the sediment. I hate the sediment as well and it hurts my throat.

What do you use when you want to stored it for long period of time after use? Will the water in the chamber be ok or should I run some type of solution?

You should always drain it. Make sure it is completely dry and empty. Rinse well before the next use and always use fresh cold water to make your coffee.
