If you are buying a Spin7 with 12 GB, it requires an unusual chipset. The Geek Squad said to buy this, but DDR3 isn't right. They don't have the correct DDR4 memory, and apparently no one else does either, that is, other than Samsung, I guess.

Great laptop... if you add an SSD

It was time to upgrade from my ATIV-8 so I chose a Spin7 when it was on sale. At only 12 GB RAM, it is less than my older machine, and the HD is slower than my old one that now has an SSD. an advantage of the Spin7 is that it can support both an SSD and an internal HD. I have to use external HDs for mass storage on the older one.
The Spin7 is also a tablet PC if you fold back the keyboard, but it's really too large to use it that way, in my opinion.

Nice addition to your music player setup

As I write this, I'm listening to these speakers playing the SiriusXM music app on my iPad. I had been using small, battery powered bluetooth speakers for this task. These speakers have a 110v. power supply and remote control that can even pause the iPad music stream. There is also a mute button and you can even connect audio equipment through wired inputs. No more expensive than many small battery operated speakers that have to be recharged. The two units come with a speaker cable that allows plenty of stereo separation. These are a great addition to my home office.

OK, so it's not as smart as I thought it might be, I get a lot of "I don't know how to do that yet" responses. Having said that, it's helpful with the weather, current daily traffic conditions as we get ready to leave in the morning and in helping us time our cooking.
We also use it to manage our shopping list now, and if I'm on the way to the store and my wife discovers we need something, she can tell Google to add it to the list and when I get to the store, that item is there when I pull up the list and start shopping.
Occasionally, we use its game play functions for a bit of entertainment.
We also enjoy its streaming music capabilities, and it's a decent speaker, though I wish I could use Bluetooth to have the sound pushed to my nicer speaker system.
I am expecting improvements as research gets done creating a smarter interface. I gave it 4 stars only because it isn't quite as useful as I thought it might be for trivial stuff.

Deep fryer heats quickly

We found this item as a 'Deal of the Day' and for the price we paid, it is a good product. There are two dials, a temperature dial and a timer dial. The timer dial is the main power switch and you rotate it for the amount of time you want the fryer to remain hot, a max of about 30 minutes.
The temperature dial is what caused me to rate this fryer as only a three. It's temperature calibration is worthless. If you set it to the highest setting on the dial (375 degrees), it warms up to about 285 and sits there cycling, to keep a stable temperature. To get to 375, which is where we like to fry potatoes, we have to put it way past 375 into the "unmarked" area. It then gets close to 375 and we drop the potatoes.
At that setting, it works well. I don't know if it's a defective unit, or if it's the norm, but truth is, I didn't find the issue as I used a meat thermometer to determine temperature and didn't notice the discrepancy with the dial until my wife tried to set it and have it hold the temp she set it to.
What we really like is the large wire basket that comes with it. We bought this to replace the much smaller Fry Daddy. This unit holds somewhat more oil and allows us to create a larger number of servings. Also, the cover is very helpful in holding back the spatter of dropping frozen food into the oil. Our previous fryer doesn't have that luxury.
In all, we are happy with the purchase and despite than the temperature marking inaccuracy, we find it a tool we use often in our kitchen.

I purchased a D80 Botvac to replace a Neato XV-21 that lasted about 3 years. Though I could have had the XV-21 fixed fairly cheaply, I decided to upgrade to the latest technology. The D80 is a definite improvement over the XV-21 in performance. A larger dust bin and improved battery life were noticable improvements. I like the way the Neato vacuum defines a precise vacuum pattern unlike some of its competitors that appear to randomly bump around a room until everything is covered.
The D80,, like the ones before it, uses a magnetic strip to keep the vacuum out of places it shouldn't go. As it happens, the couch and large chairs I own have rather high feet, and the D-80 can go partially under them, but not completely. On occasion, we've left home and when we returned, we found the vacuum stuck under one of the chairs at the highest part. To avoid that, we cut the magnetic strips into short sections and put them a short way under the furniture so that when the D-80 attempts to go under, the magnetic strip causes it to turn away.
In short, I am very pleased with the improvements in the D-80 over the XV-21, and am very happy with its performance.

I was told these two speakers can connect without wire and do so over bluetooth. Is this true? If so, how do I do that?
Like all bluetooth devices, your speakers must be paired with your music player. The process is no more difficult than with any other bluetooth device and it works well, delivering high quality sound. Instructions to pair were included in the documentation that came with the speakers.

Since these are powered, can I just get a 3.5mm outlet connection from my laptop with rca connections and plug into the rca input of the powered speaker and use them for my laptop computer?

What is the hottest temp it fries at?
It is marked to 375 degrees, but I don't trust the markings. When we turn the dial into the unmarked area above 375, it gets there. If we set it at 375, it only rises to about 285 and stays there. I usually drop french fries at about 325-350 based upon testing with a food thermometer. Since I use a therrmometer to determine when the oil is ready, I consider the miscalibration to be a minor issue.

I see no reason why this hard drive would not work with either Vista or Windows 7. It's also USB 2.0 compatible so even if the hardware on the computer isn't 3.0 compatible, the drive should still work. Data transfers would be slower, though.
