The Best Productivity Mouse Around
on October 29, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
The MX Master Series mouse is my favorite work mouse to-date, so I jumped at the opportunity to use try out the newest iteration: MX Master 3.
Overall, this is a great mouse. The new scroll wheel is awesome (change to fast-magnetic scrolling the faster you scroll), and the slight change in button placement is nicer, and more user-friendly.
The design is also top-notch, and hard to find any fault in (unless you're left-handed.) It's ergonomic and perfect for all-day use, and the buttons are customizable if wanted (via Logi Option.) Plus, the mouse feels premium with good weight distribution as well.
Battery life is great (I've only needed to charge the mouse once in 30 days), and the USB-C charging is also appreciated.
Overall, the only real downside is cost here. That aside, this is one of the best mice out there, period.

Good Wireless Keyboard
on October 28, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
I've used many Logitech keyboards over the years, and most of the time they're well-built and last for a while. I have no doubt that the MX Keys keyboard will do the same.
After spending a few weeks with the keyboard, I can say that the backlight is nice, all the shortcuts (for Mac and PC) are appreciated, and charging via USB C makes it a nice package overall.
The keys themselves feel solid, but they're more butterfly-feeling styling than your typical membrane or mechanical keyboard. If this bothers you then steer clear, because, while they are strong and precise, there's not a lot of giving underneath. They are crafted with a small spherical shape that's molded to fit your fingertip, and I did find this to aid in typing accuracy.
My biggest gripe is the battery life, which may not be the worst thing ever, but still notable. During normal use, at 4-hours a day, 5 days a week, the keyboard (with backlighting on) makes it through one week of work. I've yet to try backlight off for a long period of time, but I do wish the battery life could be a little better than about 20 hours.
Overall, though, this is a solid keyboard for a variety of different applications. It's durable and can support three different devices at the same time, making it versatile as well. It looks good on a desk, and comes from one of the best PC accessory makers around.
Would recommend.

A Good Sub Makes a Difference
on October 10, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
It's hard to put into words (without hearing for yourself), but a good/great subwoofer makes a world of difference when listening to music or using your home theater system. I bring this up because this Sonance 10" really packs a punch, and delivers great bass overall.
The design/aesthetic is simple, and works well for a variety of rooms.
Once it's out of the box, setup is really easy, and there are instructions if needed.
Now, let's dive into performance.
Again, the biggest takeaway here is that this Sonance sub really delivers on its big-power, low-response time promise. For music, even when the volume is low, the sub can fill the room when needed. For home theater use, the bass can fill every scene when needed. There's no muddiness to find, and the bass is strong when needed, but mellow when times call for it.
Overall, I was really impressed with this subwoofer. If you're coming from a lower-powered sub (anywhere from 80-150W) you'll easily notice a difference, and the 27Hz low, rich bass response is massive for providing immersion.

Best Budget 4K TV Available
on September 3, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This is, hands down, the best budget, flagship TV on the market. I 100% recommend this to anyone looking for a budget upgrade and it's better than the TCL 6 series.
Highlights:
120hz panel handles motion well, especially sports
This set can get bright enough for a living room area
Colors are vivid and lifelike (with one downside)
The TV looks and feels premium, and with the bezel being extremely thin
Center stand allows the TV to pop, and appear bigger
HDR and DV look great, and this picture quality
No apparent DSE (dirty screen effect), so panels seem to be made well
Contrast ratio is outstanding
Good as a PC monitor
Can run at 120hz with gaming consoles (Xbox One X with correct settings)
Cons:
Colors are on the warmer side (can correct with some calibration though)
Upscaling cable quality sources could be better
Longevity remains to be seen
Convulted picture settings menus to set for each input
Panel lottery is a real thing, even though I got lucky
Remote is bigger than it needs to be
Processor is a bit slower than you might think
At the end of the day, if overall picture quality is your end goal without spending over $1000, this is your best choice. The few quirks you get used to quickly, and the picture quality is so good.
Wholeheartedly recommended.

Great Looking Beverage Fridge
on August 28, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
Overall, there isn't much to say bad about this GE beverage center.
The can and bottle amounts are as-advertised, meaning you'll actually be able to fit 30+ bottles or 100+ cans inside. Setting the temperature is a breeze, and I've never had any problems in that department. The cedar shelves are easy to move around, and I feel confident in the appliance holding up over time. There is an included lock should you prefer to lock the door from unwanted hands (like my 1-year old).
The only con really is that the fridge comes with a very odd smell upon opening the appliance. It has since subsided, but something to note. dI can't comment on durability yet or longevity, but that will come.
This is a great cooler, and I've received numerous comments about its looks since I've had it which is great. It looks and feels premium, and should last a long time.
Fully recommended.

Great Wireless Camera
on July 5, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This is a great wireless camera combination, and I'd recommend it if you've been looking for a new or additional security measure for your property.
The video quality is great but should be noted that higher-resolution transmission does take a bit longer to load. There is a slight delay in starting the companion app, but this is to be expected.
The home base station is nice but does need to be plugged into an ethernet line to work properly.
This Arlo camera is small and light, and mounting it is a breeze. The only real gripe that I have, overall, is that the Arlo cloud servers are only provided for 1-year. After your cloud storage trail is up, you'll need to pay for that service.
Overall, if you don't have any other camera systems in your house, or if you're already integrated with Arlo, then this is a perfect option for you. There's a reason Arlo is such a powerful name in the home security department.

Jump Into VR with the Rift S
on June 26, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
If you've been on the fence with VR, it's time to see what everyone's talking about. Overall, if you have a semi-capable gaming PC (GTX 1070 recommended or better, AMD RX Vega) then it's time to give VR a try, and the Rift S is the perfect way to do so.
Pros:
The good refresh rate is perfect for gaming
Accurate motion tracking with both the controllers and your head motions (which means less likely for motion sickness)
Huge library of games, and compatible across numerous game marketplaces
Quality screen with better resolution
All you need is in the box
Setup is easy but takes a second
Cons:
Only compatible with DisplayPort graphics ports
16-foot cable may annoy some (look into the Quest instead)
External headphones should be used for the full effect of sound and immersion
I won't go into crazy detail about specs, etc., other than that it's a fine upgrade to the original Rift, so if you're thinking of jumping in it makes the price point worth it. $400 may seem steep but there are plenty of peripherals that are quite a bit more expensive and don't have everything needed right in the box.
Setup took about 15 minutes, and the on-screen Oculus application walks you through everything.
After experiencing my first VR game, I was hooked. I instantly understood why so many people have started in VR. I think this is the best time to jump-in, mainly because the headsets are cheaper, but have the quality to push the games you can play on them better than previous iterations.
Plus, so many companies are pushing VR software that there is a lot to discover.
One of the best parts of the Rift S is comfort. I found that even for 1-2 hours of gameplay, the adjustments and shape never infringed or hindered my experience, and was comfortable throughout.
My only gripes boil down to the DisplayPort only cord and the nitpicky item that the resolution is lower than the Quest, even though the Quest is hands-free VR.
In the end, I'm glad to have the Rift S in my house and look forward to showing VR to anyone that comes over.

Sleek, Tough Gaming Headset
on June 17, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
Astro is probably the biggest name in gaming headsets, and I now understand why. This A40 setup delivers stellar audio, a classy, modern design, comfort, and portability. Really, it's almost the perfect headset.
The good: this is a quality product, one that screams premium device. It looks like a gaming headset, but if you didn't know any better you could mistake it for a high-end pair of headphones. The design is comfortable for long sessions, and in fact, is the most comfortable headset I've ever tried.
Audio is great, especially at this price point. It delivers a rich sound that allows you to become immersed in whatever you're playing, and also isn't too shabby for music or video listening too.
The MixAmp Pro is also good, albeit with a few caveats behind it. The idea is great, and setting up everything is easy to follow, though the directions could be confusing if you aren't used to hooking up tech.
You can use it with Xbox One or PC, and I've tried both. I prefer it with PC simply because the software plays nicer with Windows (from my experience) but it worked either way. I love being able to tweak all the audio settings from the MixAmp rather than have to use Windows mixer, etc.
Now, the results are a little quirky, and I found, at times, that changing the overall sound worked better for some games over others, which is to be expected, but something to note.
The bad: honestly, the only real con here is that there isn't any carrying case for the headset itself. Every other headset I've ever bought has come with a pouch, case, etc. to tote around if needed, but the A40's did not.
That said, this is the minor-ist of gripes.
Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade their gaming or audio experience on Windows PC or Xbox One.

Quality Smart Lock
on June 17, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
This is the second smart lock in my home, and once you've started using them it's hard to go back, especially with a quality one like this Yale Assure by August.
Initial setup is easy, provided you're simply taking out an existing lock. The panel will slide into place without modification, and shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to get installed.
One nice thing about this particular smart lock is that there is a physical key function that you can use. I prefer this so it was an added bonus.
Once everything is installed, you simply set your master pin code through the August smart app. Admittedly, I had some issues setting up, but ultimately August guides you through every step easily enough. The directions are easy to understand and step-by-step. After your router, lock, and pin are set, programming and using the app is a breeze.
There are numerous features to dive into and suffice to say you'll be happy with the results.
Overall, this is a great lock. Haven't had any issues with connecting, notifications, or problems with the lock over the last month I've owned it. I'd recommend this if you're in the market for a quality smart lock to upgrade your house.

Great, Entry-Level Gaming Laptop
on June 12, 2019
Posted by: DarthNeyehilus
from Seattle, WA
If you're looking for a solid, well-built machine, this Acer gaming laptop may just be the right fit for you.
Overall, there's a decent amount of power under the hood, with only a few cons to list out. But, the value is great at roughly $800, which makes it a good value buy.
Pros:
-Battery life is sufficient for a gaming-oriented laptop. I routinely maintained about 5 hours of usage time, which is good for me.
-Processing power is adequate with the 9th-gen Intel i5 processor.
-GPU is perfect for 1080p gaming.
-Upgradable RAM which is always nice.
-Decent screen coloring, but nothing special.
-Solid HDD and SSD space, as it's great having both.
Cons:
-The screen is only 60hz, which is a bit of a bummer for older, less demanding games.
-The dimensions of this laptop are pretty chunky, which is something to note.
-Backlit keys are only red.
-The case is plastic but makes sense due to the cost.
At the end of the day, this laptop was able to handle most games I played with it, while also rendering photo and video editing software without any hiccups.
I'd recommend this laptop.
