Cook meals or reheat food while conserving counter space with this compact 25-liter Breville Compact Wave soft-close microwave. The soft-close door offers quiet, gentle closure to avoid disturbing others, and the preset options provide consistent quality with the press of a button. Compact, Premium Design and Features
on November 3, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Very easy to use controls.
* Soft-touch door pulls itself closed.
* Matches all other Breville kitchen products for a clean look.
* Convenient shortcut buttons and features.
Cons:
* A tad too small - just barely fits my plates.
My Review:
Breville products consistently bring premium quality and design to your kitchen countertop. This compact microwave oven is no exception. Everything about it says “I may be small, but I’m not cheap.” The build quality is top-notch and the overall design is well thought-out from the controls to the way the door soft-closes.
The control panel buttons have a nice feel to them and are large, easy to read and easy to press when cooking. They are membrane keys which means that they are easy to clean with no gaps to collect food from dirty fingers. The rotary knob is an intuitive control for increasing or decreasing the time or quantities, although it would be a tad more intuitive to be able to press in on it to select items in menus, etc.
The display is very basic with just digits and a few words around the screen that are indicated by segments on the display when needed. Since this unit has a numbers-only screen, the “Food Menu” function has a printed key just to the left of the control panel that is only visible while the door is open. This is a convenient touch to compensate for a basic screen while still keeping the information handy and not cluttering up things with the door closed. There are large “Start” and “Stop” buttons and handy “Clock” and “Mute” shortcut buttons to set or change the clock and silence the beeps without having to dig into menus.
The actual microwaving part is exactly as you’d expect. This is not a huge and powerful unit, but gets the job done - especially for its size.
My only real concern with this “compact” microwave is that my standard-sized square plates just barely fit in it. A small unit like this will probably be used for reheating plates and drinks and making popcorn most of the time rather than cooking from scratch. Be sure to check that your plates and cups will fit in before choosing this smaller unit and if necessary, upgrade to their mid-size one instead. The interior opening dimensions are: 11.75” wide, 12” deep and 8” tall with a tad more room inside if you can get past the opening. For the record, my square plates are 10.75” x 10.75” but are 12.25” in diameter so while they fit through the opening, they barely have enough room to rotate during operation thanks to the slightly larger dimensions inside.
Provided the size meets your needs, you will not be disappointed in this compact microwave oven. The design, build quality and features definitely match its premium feel.

Clear, Light and Durable
on November 2, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Adds a nice, rubbery grip to the phone.
* Thin and light for 10’ of drop protection.
* Lip protects the screen when face-down.
* Buttons are still easy to press.
* Very clear so your phone is highly visible.
Cons:
* None.
My Review:
I don’t usually keep a case on my phone and prefer it naked so that it’s as thin and light as possible while showing off the great iPhone design and color.
When I do need some extra protection like when traveling or going to the beach, pool, etc, I still like my phone’s design to be visible and want to retain easy access to the buttons, the Lightening port and everything.
This case is a really nice balance between “good enough” protection and maintaining a thin and light design without blocking any ports, buttons or speakers. The crystal clear material allows the phone’s design and color to be visible, too.
Overall, a really nice case for those who don’t need their phone to be indestructible but still want some level of protection against typical drops and bumps.

Easy Setup, Great Features, Long Battery Life
on October 8, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Great video quality.
* Simple setup.
* Useful and Flexible features.
* Easy to use app.
* Long battery life.
Cons:
* Not inexpensive.
* Base hub is not compatible with my other Arlo products.
My Review:
My first experience with Arlo products was their Security Lights. While they work great, and their battery life is excellent, the setup was very finicky and the settings within their app were not exceedingly clear.
My experiences thus far with the Arlo Pro 3 Security Cameras are similar for how well they work, but night-and-day (pun intended) for how easy they are to set up and use. In fact, initial setup was so easy that I was surprised it was done so soon. Plug the hub into power and ethernet, then fire up the app. It was that easy. Setting up the Security Lights was cumbersome. Setting up the Arlo Pro 3 cameras was brain-dead simple. I inserted the partially-charged batteries into the two cameras and after setting up the hub, the app asked if I wanted to also set up my 2 cameras. Done. The app even gives you a good idea for how strong the video quality is based on wireless signal from the camera to the hub. Nice!
The design of these cameras is really nice, too. They have an outer shell that the “guts” of the camera slide into to keep everything contained and water-tight. The shell is what is mounted and you can easily separate the two to swap out a charged battery without disturbing the mounting position. If you just want to leave the battery inserted and charge with the supplied cable, you will have remove the camera with housing from the mount unless the provided magnetically-coupled cable reaches easily for the duration of charging the camera’s battery.
Each camera has a microphone and speaker for 2-way communications, a bright spotlight for better illumination, the camera (of course) and a wide-angle motion sensor.
The app even noticed that I already had the Security Lights configured and offered to set up some synergy between the lights and the cameras. Setting up the motion zones, the video quality, notifications, etc. was all easy, and the video quality both during the day and at night was amazing.
Another nice feature is that while all the video can go to the cloud for storage, analysis and easy access, you can also plug in a storage device to the hub for local file storage in place of or in addition to the cloud.
While the app integrates both the Pro 3 Cameras and the Security Lights together, the hubs for each are completely separate. It would have been nice to eliminate the Security Light hub (I need two for proper coverage) and the Camera hub, but at least the app controls both seamlessly.
Overall, these security cameras may not be the least expensive options, but the video quality, features and design definitely make them worth spending a bit more money on.

Keep your teeth clean with this white Boka electric toothbrush. Stylish and Cleans Great
on October 6, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Very stylish handle and recharging base.
* Long battery life.
* Very good cleaning.
* Less expensive brush heads.
Cons:
* 2 min timer neglects the flat teeth surfaces (like most similar electric toothbrushes).
* Light bleed in the base and handle very visible at night.
My Review:
There are two really big names in electric toothbrushes. This is not one of them, but should be. It’s a sonic-type brusher and looks at first glance like the big-name brush, but it’s a better value and is (at least to me) more stylish when sitting on your bathroom counter between uses.
The handle is light but still has sufficient weight to feel substantial. It has a single light and a single button, and nice little “feet” on the back so when placed laying down on your counter it won’t roll away so easily. The black bristles on the brush head are a bit disconcerting at first, but you get used to it and they (supposedly) serve a purpose.
The charging stand is very compact and the handle magnetically attaches to it vertically. The base is well-weighted so you can just pull the handle off without fear of the base coming with it.
In normal light, there is a white light ring around the base to indicate when the handle is charging as well as a red LED on the handle itself. This brings me to one of my small nits about the Boka brush… when the room lights go down, you can see these lights bleed through the plastic bits to make it all look not so great. Sure, that’s just aesthetics, but the handle and base look so nice otherwise.
The other nit seems to unfortunately be common among most if not all electric toothbrushes. They all seem to advertise a 2-minute countdown timer with some sort of indication at 30-second intervals. This is supposed to help you time your brushing to get the inside and outside upper and lower sets of teeth per 30-second cycle. That’s great, but what about the flats on your molars? They all seem to forget about them so after the brush turns itself off after 2 minutes, I need to turn it back on to get those flat areas, too. Why not add another 2x 30-second cycles for the upper and lower flats?
Replacement brush heads are not as easy to find as the other guys’ heads, but they are much less expensive and mail order is easy enough if you plan ahead. Anyway, overall, the Boka brush is a really stylish alternative to the other 2 big-name brands. It seems to clean at least as well and looks really nice when not in use (except at night).

Temporarily useful but can be annoying
on September 29, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Small and light
* Charging via USB-C
* Effortless pairing with BTLE
* Nice app with helpful prompts and hints
* Convenient storage tray for unit and extra sticky pads
Cons:
* Not something you’ll use often after initial training
* Can be very annoying while in use
My Review:
Most of us unknowingly slouch… a lot… without realizing it. This tends to cause back pain or other problems that again, we didn’t know could be easily helped by sitting or standing up straight. That’s where the Upright Go 2 comes in. It can make you more aware when you’re slouching and correct that behavior over time. You can also just wear it to remind you not to slouch (but probably won’t).
This tiny, lightweight unit charges up over USB-C and easily pairs to your phone over BTLE. Starting out you just wear it for short periods of time to train your awareness of your posture. After that, you can wear it all day to remind you when you’re slouching. The battery should last about 30 hours of use between charges but keep in mind that it’s not really designed to be worn while you’re sweating or wet so no gym use, no swimming, and definitely no wearing in the shower or out in the rain ;-)
The little pod comes with a pack of reusable and replaceable sticky pads so that you can adhere it on the top part of your back where you can comfortably reach. The app is really nice to get you started and make you more aware of your posture. The problem that I noticed while using and training with it was that I rarely sat or stood still while “in training.” I’d bend over to get something or tilt forward to reach for something and the unit would buzz at me to stop slouching even though I wasn’t. This was annoying as I’d really try to maintain my posture but got “corrected” when I was just doing something normal that wasn’t actually slouching.
Anyway, this little training device can really help if you’re prone to poor posture. After you’ve raised your awareness of this bad posture, though, the device is not incredibly useful. You probably will not end up wearing it regularly - especially after your training is over. So you get that benefit of the training and then leave it in a drawer until your bad habits drift back and you need a refresher course.
If the training aspects seem useful to you, then this device can definitely help you be more aware of bad posture and help you get in the habit of sitting or standing up straight. Once you get that benefit, the device probably will start gathering dust…. unless you can gift it to someone else who might need it.

Excellent Print Quality and Speed, Silent
on September 29, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Great print quality for a color laser printer
* Fast printouts
* Easy to set up for wireless printing (Mac, iOS tested)
* Nearly silent while printing
* Included toner prints a lot of pages
Cons:
* Larger than average might not fit everywhere
* WiFi or USB - no wired ethernet
* Doesn’t duplex
* Expensive consumables
My Review:
This is a really great value for a color laser printer. Print quality is what one would expect for a modern color laser printer, and it was faster than some other brands that I’ve tried. But what surprised me most was how quiet it is! Other laser printers have clicks and whirs while feeding the paper, but this Brother printer just silently spits out finished pages.
Set up was as easy as one could expect. Unbox the beast (over 40 pounds of heft) and remove all of the blue tape and orange protective plastic bits. Add paper. Go through the on-unit wireless setup wizard to select an access point and (laboriously) enter the network key. Done.
Next step was getting my Mac to use the printer. This, too, was easy. Select to add a printer, choose the Brother unit from the list and done. You can optionally download the full driver package from the Brother web site listed on the setup poster to get more printing options.
Last was printing from my iPhone and iPad; both recognized the printer on my network via AirPrint and worked without fuss.
The tabletop footprint is on the larger side, and it doesn’t help that the power cord comes out of the back and needs additional depth on a counter. This printer definitely commands space on a desk or shelf.
This is Brother’s more basic unit so it has a simple one-line LCD display with buttons rather than a touchscreen, there’s no Ethernet adapter for wired networking and there’s no duplexing. If you’re OK with these limitations, then this is a great value option for you!
Sadly, as with nearly all printers these days, the cost of replacing the bundled toner (or ink in the case of ink-jet printer), far exceeds the cost of the unit’s original purchase. This printer’s bundled toner is good for about 1000 pages after which it costs nearly twice the original price of the printer to replace all four with new ones. While not ecologically correct, it’s typically cheaper to replace the printer (and get another set of bundled toner or ink), than it is to keep the printer and replace just the toner or ink.
Overall, this is a great color laser printer for home or small office use. As long as WiFi connectivity works for you and you don’t need to duplex, this printer will serve you well for a lot of prints.

Great Value for Style, Sound and Battery Life
on September 8, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Amazing battery life (30+ hours)
* Good Sound for Music Listening
* Compact and lightweight
* Convenient control knob
Cons:
* Mids are overshadowed by punchy bass and high treble
* Beeps instead of voice prompts
My Review:
First off - these are what I would call “value” headphones - they aren’t the cheapest you can get, but there are many options at higher prices points, too. For their price, they really deliver. You can literally listen all day (24-hours straight) and then still have battery leftover for the next day. They are relatively light and comfortable for on-ear headphones, too.
Sound is good with punchy bass and tight treble, but is definitely a little shallow on the mids. Depending on your choice of genre, these will most likely sound good for you. Spoken word (audiobooks, etc) are not where these headphones shine but music sounds great.
The only control on the headphones is a single 5-way joystick-like button. Push in to turn them on/off, accept phone calls, invoke a voice assistant or play/pause. Slide up/down for volume and left/right for track controls. Overall, I really like this - it’s easy to find blind while you’re wearing them and works great. My only complaint is that while many other brands are going with a nice voice to indicate various actions, these stick with simple beeps.
There is a micro USB port for charging and an novel bi-directional 3.5mm headphone jack. Plug one end of a 3.5mm cable into the headphones and either plug the other end into a source to use these headphones wired (instead of Bluetooth or when your battery does eventually die). But, you can instead connect that same free cable end into someone else’s wired headphones to “share the music” if you’re listening wirelessly. I’m sure it’d look weird to have two people sit near each other with a wire connecting their respective headphones, but it’s a novel use of that port when listening wirelessly.
The materials are nice for a value headset - not leather, but supple and easy to clean. The ear pads are easily removable to swap out with new ones, too, with current pricing at a reasonable $22/pair. The provided power and audio cables are really nice.
Overall, these are great headphones for the money with good sound, great battery life, nice controls and that classic “Marshall” retro style. I would like a slightly more balanced sound stage, but these are otherwise highly recommended if you’re looking for on-ear wireless headphones with a lot of value for the price.

Tiny, Light, Fast, Secure
on August 24, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Much smaller and lighter than expected.
* Easy to carry for extra on-the-go storage.
* Comes with both USB-A (standard) and USB-C cables.
* Pre-formatted for best use on a Mac (Mac OS Extended (Journaled))
Cons:
* Since it’s pre-formatted for the Mac, it can’t easily be used with other systems unless reformatted.
My Review:
I was genuinely surprised at how small and light this external hard drive is. I have the 2TB version and it is literally about 2/3 the size of my iPhone XS (although a tad thicker). I have an older Seagate hard drive that is thinner but it’s only 750GB and I trust my data to Western Digital a LOT more than I do to Seagate.
The drive has a standard USB-3 port and comes with two short cables; one has USB-A (the typical USB connector) and the other has a USB-C (the newer connector). There is a small white LED on the drive to tell you when it’s working, but otherwise it’s just a semi-stylish box that you can carry around to supplement your Mac’s storage.
For what it's worth - this drive won't work (as is) with a new iPad Pro running iOS 12.4 via USB-C. It may work with iOS 13 or if you re-format the drive, but out of the box it doesn't work with the latest iPad Pros.
It also comes with some software utilities that seem kinda nice. Not much else to say - fast, small, light, reliable, and easy to use.

Comfortable, Great Range, Sound Great
on August 4, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Very comfortable to wear for long sessions.
* Sound great with tons of customization options.
* Convenient recharging base station.
Cons:
* Missing some of the audio feedback that other brands do.
My Review:
I work from home for a tech company and spend a good portion of my day on Skype calls. While this is advertised as a great gaming headset, it also is awesome for PC use with Skype calls or other video conferencing. The headset is comfortable to wear for long periods of time and the swing-up boom microphone is convenient for going silent during a call - for bathroom breaks or other reasons.
There are a ton of audio customization options in the provided Astro Command Center software for Windows/Mac. There are even a few buttons on the headset itself to adjust the Game/Voice balance, the overall volume, the audio source and even the EQ settings.
So far, the range has been excellent as has been the battery life. The wireless communication box doubles as a drop-in charger so whenever you’re not wearing the headset, you just drop it on the charger which keeps it topped off for the next use.
My only small complaints are a few “niceties” that other brands have such as audio feedback when muting/unmuting the microphone, etc… With this headset, if you rotate the microphone boom up, it mutes the audio, but you get no feedback so you don’t really know if the microphone was muted. With other similar headsets, rotating up the boom mic also mutes it, but the headset either says “Microphone muted” with a voice in the headset to confirm, or at least has a beep to signify that an action happened. Same for unmuting. I tried suggesting to these feature requests to the manufacturer and gave up after 4 attempts of them not reading my request and instead just saying that rotating up the boom mic mutes the audio.
Anyway, this is a solid headset for gaming, PC audio calls and even movie and music playback. The battery life is great, the range is more than you’ll probably need, and the drop-in charger is really convenient. I can’t quite give it a perfect 5-star rating but it’s ][ this close.

Huge Canvas, Clear Image, Good Connectivity
on June 27, 2019
Posted by: gadgeTT
from South Florida
Pros:
* Huge Screen
* Lots of pixels to work with
* Attractive design (case, stand, etc.)
* Good connectivity options
* VESA mount and desk stand included
Cons:
* Not 4k/UHD, but still great.
* Limited stand adjustments
* Bulky power brick
My Review:
The laptop I use for work has a built-in 15” Full HD (1080p) screen. This is nice, but when I’m not traveling, it’s a huge benefit to connect a second monitor. I used to expand my desktop onto an external 22” 1080p monitor for more screen real estate. Its really helpful to have the extra space.
A brief explanation of monitor resolutions, because QHD might sound the same as 4k, but it’s not. Technically, the bare minimum to be considered HD is 720p (1280x720). “Full HD” is what is commonly referred to as 1080p (1920x1080). This HP monitor is QHD which means 4 x HD so its resolution is 2560x1440 or 3.7 MP, versus 4k which is 4 x Full HD which is 3840x2160 or 8.3 MP.
Anyway, I digress. This HP monitor may not be 4k, but its huge 32” screen is a great canvas for getting work done, among other things. It makes more of a difference than you might think. I do design work on my laptop, and being able to not only have multiple things open but to have them open with large enough windows to see detail, is awesome!
I can’t say anything about gaming on this monitor, but for work purposes (spreadsheets, design work, etc.) it is amazing.
The provided desk stand does its job well enough, but does nothing but tilt; no rotation around the base and the screen cannot rotate to portrait (tall versus wide). It does come with a VESA mount that replaces the desktop stand so you can mount it to a wall or monitor arm, though.
I won’t get into the connectivity options because you can read that in the specs. I have it connected to my HP laptop with the provided HDMI cable and everything works great.
Aside from the limited stand adjustments, the only other small thing I could negatively mention is that the slim bezel and case design does not have a built-in AC adapter. Instead, it has an external power brick that is quite large but not too bad if you’re using this on a desk. Just keep in mind that the power cable coming from the monitor does have a huge rug bump in the middle ;-)
Anyway, this is a really great monitor for its specs. As long as you understand that it is QHD (as advertised) which is NOT 4k or UHD, you’ll be happy with this huge and clear monitor.

The Nest Doorbell is the battery-powered video doorbell that works with any home. See what’s happening at your door from anywhere and get intelligent alerts about important activity, like when there’s a person, package, animal, or vehicle.* And because there are no wires, you can install it yourself. Nest Doorbell requires the Google Home app and a Google Account – it’s not compatible with the Nest app or the home.nest.com site.

Where can I buy a replacement battery? How much does the replacement battery cost?

The internal battery is not replaceable by the customer. You have to remove the whole doorbell from the mounting bracket using the supplied metal "key", bring it inside and plug it in to recharge it... about every 2-3 months.

Organizing financial paperwork and accurately processing piles of messy receipts and invoices can be a challenge. The Epson® RapidReceipt RR-600W desktop scanner was specifically designed to quickly scan stacks of invoices and receipts of varying sizes, then automatically and accurately process the information into smart digital assets. With the included Epson ScanSmart® financial software, you can turn stacks of unorganized receipts and invoices into categorized digital data that easily integrates into applications such as QuickBooks®, TurboTax® and more1. Plus, create searchable/editable PDFs with the included bonus software. Do it all with zero subscription fees. Featuring smart technology, this scanner learns from each receipt scanned ̶ recognizing more data and logos over time, ensuring receipts and invoices are accurately converted and categorized. And, it’s all done on your own device, giving you complete control over your data, where it’s stored and how it is used. It’s the easy, cost effective way to organize and manage your finances.

Does it extract receipt information into software that can be sent to quickbooks online?

It claims to, although I'm not a QuickBooks user so I cannot verify. The box clearly states that it does this, tough.

Has anyone been able to get the game/chat balancer working properly? I have looked everywhere for a solid solution and have not been able to get it working or find a working example. the game/chat balancer for me makes ALL sounds quieter or louder.

As near as I can tell, this balances the audio between the TOSLINK (optical) input on the USB puck and the audio coming from the USB connection. If you're not using the TOSLINK input, then the switch will basically be useless. Hope this helps.
