Great deal on a switch and bulb starter kit

I already have other Hue lights in my place and was just wanting to get a dimmer switch for the bedroom. I couldn't pass on getting the dimmer and another bulb. Win win to me.
The bulb is the basic A19 white bulb so nothing real fancy. If you want to use it for a bedside lamp or something it is perfect. No ambiance but really the only room that works in is a living or family room. Most of the time you just want a light in a room and these are relatively inexpensive smart bulbs.
The dimmer is pretty basic as well. Out of the box it is paired with the bulb it comes with. So you could just use it as a standalone light if you chose to. It does on/off and dim/bright and can be used as a remote control. The wall plate uses a magnet to hold the dimmer and you can take it out and carry it around with you. I use it on my night stand for my lamp.
It was a bit of a pain to connect it with an existing system. You have to hit the reset button on the dimmer before the hub will detect it. The bulb I had to enter the manually into the configuration. My system would not pair and control it without some work. Still, I have the dimmer that I wanted and a bonus light.
I'm happy with my purchase and think it is a pretty good value if you want to add a light and dimmer to an existing system. Not sure I would recommend it as an 'entry level' system as it doesn't have most of the features you get with a full Hue system with a hub.

Getting in the smart home
on December 3, 2016

I recently purchased a Google Home and was wanting to start with some home automation. First thought was with my lighting since Philips Hue is one that it is compatible with. I thought I would start with this and see if it was something that I would like.
Setup was very simple. First, put the bulbs in whatever locations you want. For me that was simple since I have a small apartment and live by myself; living room and bedroom. Easy. Second connect the hub. Power and cat5 to my router. No brainer. Last downloaded the Hue app on my phone. Follow the quick start and everything is connected. Everything works on the first go. Brilliant!
Note: there are two Hue apps. The 2nd generation allows you to set up rooms and gives you scenes out of the box that are useful. There are presets for full on, dimmed and nightlight for each light. The only downside is that the routines, like Home and Away, do not work properly. Sure you can use your phone as a remote, but I wanted it to turn my lights on when I get home and off when I leave. There is an option for setting a location but it doesn't work. Just do a quick internet search and you will see that.
But there is the 1st generation app. The location settings and timers work perfectly! Location awareness turns my lights on when I pull into the complex and shuts them off when I leave. Just what I was wanting. Downside, the scenes are not very good, you can't set up lights as a room (easily) and the light controls are sliders which gets annoying.
Fortunately you can use both apps simultaneously. So I setup routines using 1st gen and control the lights manually using 2nd gen. Works like a charm. Now I have exactly what I was wanting.
I was so thrilled that I bought another bulb and a dimmer switch. Great for my bedside lamp. I setup a routine that turns all the lights off at bedtime except the bedside lamp. For that I have the dimmer so I'm not left in the dark.
I also have setup up some recipes in IFTTT to blink the lights when it's bedtime and to automatically turn my lights off at midnight. Just in case I fell asleep with them on, of course.
Integration with the Google Assistant is seamless. I can just say 'Ok Google, turn on (whatever)' or 'Ok Google, dim (whatever)' and it does it. Almost like having my own Javis.
I admit it, I'm hooked. The only issue I've had was when I tried putting one in the kitchen it had an issue with connecting to the hub from time to time. Can't move the hub right now so I just removed it for the time being. Once I get a place of my own I will be adding more lights, some I plan on using the color and some the white ambiance.
Another note, if you really want to get the most out of the automation part you really need to use a Google Home or Amazon Echo. The app is great but it is kind of a pain to have to use it. Much better to just use voice commands. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the issues with the 2nd gen app. Once the get that resolved it will be a perfect lighting solution.

Okay, I'll be honest, the film is good, but it only makes it to number 2 on my list. Imagery is incredible, but the story is quite as tight. Still well worth buying.

Good movie, but not the best in the series

Overall it was a good watch, but I was a little disappointed in the story overall. I preferred First Class to this one. The effects are awesome and the cast is brilliant. Just the story line itself that is not as strong. Good but not the best..

Excellent X-men movie

I admit I'm late coming to the club. I just started catching up with the X-men movies. So I have basically binge watched them over the last couple of weekends.
I love this installment. Certainly a departure from the first three movies. I never read the comic books so I can't say as to whether the story line is the same, but I enjoyed it. Certainly a good story explaining the foundation of the series. Pretty sure it would stand on its own, so no pre-req to watch the previous films. Overall I think it is great.

I was looking for a light weight cable to use with my Raspberry Pi. The thicker cables I own will pull my match box sized computer off the desk. This one is light enough so that it doesn't have that problem. I had them same issue with my Roku being pulled around by the cable. I had bought one of these cables before, so I had no hesitation buying again. Works great for me.

I bought this for my tablet so I could copy my music files over. I've bought several of these over the last five years and never had any real issues. Usually when I am replacing one it is to get one with more capacity. Highly recommend these for phones and tablets.

Good for running dual monitors

I was wanting to add a second monitor to one of my PCs and did not have room for a second video card. The one in the machine has both a DVI and Diplay Port on the back. (Thanks, Dell.) No display ports on my monitors though. So after some checking I purchased this adapter. Works great. I'm usually pretty happy with Insignia products anyway. Plugged right in and works like a charm.

Good case for the Digiland 7" tablet
on September 16, 2016
Posted by: jasvanek
Verified Purchase:Yes
I just happened across this case as I was looking for another item. It was marked down and I thought it might work well for a basic cover for my Digiland tablet I had bought a few months back. I did a basic size trial using the display tablet and it looked like it would fit. And it works pretty well.
The edges of the case hold the tablet with elastic straps that loop over the corners. They are very snug so there is no slipping during use. Since it was not designed for my tablet I was concerned about it covering (or pressing) some of the buttons. Not a problem there. One of the straps is close to the power button but after a month of use has never been a problem. I can easily get to the USB port for charging without have to take it out of the case. The only potential issue would be that there isn't a cutout for the rear camera. For my purposes that is not a problem.
In the past I have always had good luck using the generic fit Belkin cases so it is no surprise that this one works. Materials and construction are excellent. I don't use it a whole lot for transportation as that tablet is used mostly for streaming music at home. But it is as solid as the case I had for my Kindle a couple of years ago and it was great.
My only issue is the rather weak design for the folding cover to act as a tripod. It does work but I have had it slip a few times when it was angled just right. By slip I mean the tablet slowly leaned over until it was flat on its back. Again, for me not a problem. If I were using it for movies and reading that might be an issue. Outside of that it is a fair value for the money. I just got lucky and picked it up on sale.

Good start to the next chapter
on May 9, 2016

I was very hesitant to go see this movie. Matter of fact I waited until the DVD came out to watch it. I remember the first three films from when I was a kid and we lived for them. So when the prequels came out I was almost sickened at how shallow and pointless they were. Episode III is really the only one worth watching. So I had mixed feelings and expectations for Force Awakens.
While not as immersive as the original three it certainly is a good start for the next chapter in the SW saga. Some highlights would be a great duo of protagonists, no corny and unnecessary sidekick/comic reliefs, and FINALLY a good villain. Actually I find myself really liking Kylo. So much better a character than any of the ones from the prequels.
SPOILER ALERT!
I was actually happy that they killed off Han Solo. First off Harrison Ford is not believable in that role any more. Second, there really isn't a place for him in the stories anymore. I mean he hasn't been a 'smuggler' for quite some time. Don't buy him as a general either. So I like that they killed him off. Plus it works well within the story line.
Overall I really like this movie. I can't wait to see how the next films develop. Thank you for not ruining the franchise, Disney.

Enjoy your favorite on-the-go tunes with these Insignia™ NS-CAAHEB02-BL stereo earbud headphones, which feature an in-line microphone for hands-free chatting on your compatible device. Two pairs of ear pads are included for a snug, comfortable fit.

What exactly does the button on the cord in the picture do? Does it allow you to pause & answer a call if plugged into a phone? Does it allow you to pause/play when using an iPod?

I don't use it myself, but it allows you to answer a call. I don't know if it will control an iPod.

Nest Protect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm - 2nd Generation (Battery): Nest Protect reliably detects and alerts you to the presence of smoke or carbon monoxide in your home. The alarm speaks to you in a calm, clear, human voice, telling you the location of the danger. It also provides smartphone alerts and battery status updates to help protect your home.

For the battery version, if one alarm goes off in one room will it be able to communicate with other battery versions in other rooms to make them go off as well? Would like to the know the answer whether the wifi network is up or if its down.

Yes, it does communicate with the other Protects in the home. Does it work without the Wifi? Never tested that. But I would say that unless it is your router that catches on fire you will probably be alerted long before the WiFi gives out. But since they have a built-in ad hoc wifi they have probably considered that as well.

Google Chromecast Audio: Stream your favorite music with Google Chromecast Audio. Simply plug into your speaker's auxiliary input and connect to your Wi-Fi network. Then just tap the Cast button from your favorite apps on your phone, tablet or computer to cast songs, radio stations and podcasts to your speaker.

Chromecast and Bluetooth options?

If I'm using this through my home stereo, and controlling with my iPad, can I still use bluetooth speakers at the same time?
No, at least not practically. If the app you are using is sending to the chromecast it will not be able to send to a different set of BT speakers. That is an app/phone limitation not chromecast. I guess you could play from two different music sources but I would know why you would want to.

I want to play music from my smartphone's SD card, through WiFi, to my stereo receiver (not Pandora iHeart or Spotify). Will this audio casting device work for me?

Yes, you can stream from almost all media applications. You should see a 'cast' icon on the application when it is running. Just tap that and tell it where to cast to (your chromecast) and it works. I do that now and then to play my music from my phone.

I wish to rip my CDs into hi-res audio (96KHz/24-bit). Is there a Chromecast-enabled hi-res media manager available?

The chromecast is just a target device, the app would run on your phone or tablet.

Is it possible to hook this up to older speakers that don't have rca or aux inputs? If so, how? I have old speakers that connect with just bare speaker wires.

Yes, you can connect the bare wires to a 3.5mm plug available at a lot of retailers. But the speakers will have to be powered, so if they do not have a built in power amp you will need one of those as well. May wind up being more of a hassle and costly to use them.
