Useful tool to consolodate accounts
on May 23, 2022
Posted by: psyclopps
Summary: A great tool for anyone who wants full control of their crypto in an easy to manage digital wallet. This device will make your crypto far more secure from cyber attacks.
Pros:
Easy to carry
Small size
Good desktop / mobile apps
Massive amount of supported coins
Cons:
Only works when connected via USB
If lost, you’re out of luck
Two buttons to do everything
Unboxing / build quality:
Opening the device will provide you with the ledger, a dongle, a USB-A to USB-C cable, documentation, booklets to remember your security words. I was surprised that the device looks quite premium with a modern industrial design. It does feel a little more on the cheap side though as the majority of the device is plastic and mine actually squeaks a little bit when I fold it shut. The metal cover looks nice with a brushed metal design.
Setup:
Setup is a little different than most devices as you are not “pairing” it with anything. You can use a mobile app or desktop (PC or Mac) to set it up. I decided to set it up with a PC to have access to the keyboard if needed. While setting up, you will setup a 4-8 digit pin. The more digits the better but beware that you only have two buttons so it might take you some time to enter a long PIN. You will also write down your security words in one of the provided booklets… DO NOT LOSE THIS as this is your ability to recover your account if you ever lose your PIN. If you lose this, your crypto is gone forever should you forget your PIN or break your device.
After initial setup, you will load crypto “apps” into the device. To test it out, I started with Bitcoin and Ethereum. Installation is simple, “push” the app over to it from the desktop or phone, then acknowledge it on the device and you are gtg with a secure address you can send your crypto to on the device. As far as I can tell you are supposed to send/receive while the ledger is connected to your main device as it provides you with the encryption needed to withdraw and to verify the correct address to receive money. This can be a slow process but it is more secure.
Coin support:
It supports so many coins. That vast majority were supported when I tried to set it up with the only two I have that did not have native support being Monero and Cardano. There is support within the desktop app but you need to use another program to tie it to the ledger as it is not natively supported to be managed via the Ledger Live app. Their website says Cardano is coming down the road but there is no date set. If you set it up with the 3rd party Cardano/Monero apps it works similarly to the aforementioned processes with the native supported coins. You can also buy coins directly from some 3rd parties such as Coinify through the Ledger Live app.
Overall:
I like this device… it is a bit unwieldy and cumbersome to use but it consolidates your crypto into one place. This is better in my opinion as the popular websites which maintain your crypto could tank and you would end up losing your holdings. This is a non-issue with the ledger life.
My only complaints that I took away stars for are the cheapish build quality and the two buttons. It really needs a better interface than two buttons. Last, there should be some ability to turn it on without being connected to your phone or laptop.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Portable and stylish air filter for small rooms
on May 19, 2022
Posted by: psyclopps
Summary: This is a small and convenient air purifier you can move from room to room or leave in small spaces.
Pros:
Size
Convenience
Style
Build quality
Cons:
No Wi-fi
Unboxing / setup: The box requires little setup. Simply unpackaged the device, remove the HEPA filter, remove the plastic around the HEPA filter, then reinstall and plug in. There is a QR code on the device to check out YouTube tutorials if needed.
Build quality: The device was smaller and lighter than I expected which was a welcome surprise. It is large enough for a small room such as a bedroom or office. The build is mostly plastic but feels durable enough. I like the soothing indicator ring which glows color depending the quality of air in your room, the blue light is soothing but can be turned off at night if wished.
Features: There is no Wi-Fi on this device so all controls are manual. The LCD screen will tell you when your filter need replacement. I recommend just leaving the filter on auto mode to get the most life out of your filter and keep the air clean. If needed, you can also set timers as needed. Child protect locks buttons are present to keep kids from messing with it.
Due to the light weight size, you can easily pick it up and move it into the next room if needed.
Filter replacement: Couldn’t be easier. Simply turn upside down, unscrew the bottom with a quick turn, remove the filter, replace and screw back in. Filters can be bought from Shark and do not look too expensive so it won’t cost an arm and a leg to replace every 6 months to a year.

Amazing little machine with amazing sound quality
on May 5, 2022
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CA
Summary: Full of nostalgia, this is an amazing record player that will bring back memories, outstanding audio quality, and make for a great conversation starter with the kids!
Unboxing: This device will require a lot of assembly (for a modern electronic product). The box is large and finely secured with padding, but pretty much all the items are in pieces that will require assembly and some calibration. Pretty much everything on the unit is made of wood and it has a premium look and feel.
Assembly: The speakers are easy enough, plug them into the wall and the record player with a red/white RCA cable and they are gtg. As for the turntable, a quick summary is, attach the platter, stretch the rubber belt to the motor, insert the dust cover hinges and cover, level the arm, adjust the weight for proper pressure on the needle, then you are pretty much gtg. The instructions are easy to follow if read but if you skip them, you might be a little lost. The monitor speakers also have a subwoofer output if you would like to get more bass.
Use: First, I showed it to my oldest kid. He said "Dad, I learned about these in music class!" I tested this record play with three records… Taylor Swift Fearless Taylor’s Version, Red Hot Chili Peppers Unlimited Love and Olivia Rodrigo Sour. I initially realized my record player would skip with the smallest touch of the surface it was on. The issue was I calibrated the arm/weight with the plastic needle guard attached which was enough to throw off the calibration so it wasn’t pressing enough on the disk. After recalibrating, all was good. There were a few instances where the record had a slight “warp” to its shape (common on vinyl) which would cause the needle to loop the audio a little bit.
Sound quality: Outstanding! First, be aware that records will introduce imperfections such as hisses/pops but some people love the character that adds. I need to warn you that most albums are mastered in a high definition digital recording. I highly recommend doing your research on how the record you are interested in is mastered since many recordings might just be a master digital copy converted to analog. The sound quality will still be outstanding, but there is no analog advantage in this case. I did see some websites that compared vinyls that used a digital master to the lossless versions on iTunes and Tidal and they did find less distortion and higher dynamic range on the vinyls in most cases. But… a poorly engineering record will be almost identical to the digital download version.
Fearless by Taylor Swift was an outstanding recording that had great dynamic range and demonstrated the high and low capabilities of the record player. I used Red Hot Chili Pepper to demonstrate the speaker's ability to handle distortion. I was greatly impressed by how the vocals stood out from the guitars and the drums punch with clear bass. This record was much better than the digital recording. The symbols on the track “Black Summer” shocked me when I first heard them since they sounded almost live, the downloadable digital version pushed that audio into the background by comparison.
Extra features: The unit has a “vinyl output” feature which will allow you to stream the record to headphones via bluetooth. There will be a compressed data loss since bluetooth has limitations but you will get a more traditional record sound with the hiss and pops.
The M1 Monitor speakers also have the ability to output via bluetooth from your phone.
Targeted audience: This is a product for anyone who enjoys music. You will feel as if you are there in the audience for some recordings and it will allow you to rediscover certain songs. Even with its quarks, which I would expect from a record player, I give it 5 stars.

Outstanding machine with few compromises
on January 30, 2022
Posted by: psyclopps

If you're looking for a new espresso machine that is high quality with everything built in, this one is for you.
Summary: The machine is heavy and bulky, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. It is not a machine ideal for small spaces. The extra weight creates a machine built with a high quality build that is strong, durable, and easy to clean. Much of the machine appears to be a plastic of high quality. The tamper, steam wand, filter, milk pitcher, group-head, and filter cradle are all made of heavy steel. The only item that feels flimsy is the water tank, specifically the lid. It feels like it will break/fall off at any moment. The drip tray and water tank are easily removed for cleaning. I do enjoy the fact that this machine is in a dark high quality plastic as opposed to stainless steel, due to it being more easily cleaned.
The machine is a semi-automatic machine that has a built in grinder, espresso, and frother. The 'automatic' part is referring to the fact that you can select if you are making a single or double shot of espresso. The machine will tell you when it has reached its ideal temperature, when to add water, grinding size specification, when to descale, and the wifi connection. I was able to download the app, and set up the account fairly easily.
For anyone coming from drip, k-cups or other easy espresso machines, be prepared for some practice to make a proper shot of espresso or latte. For anyone who has had experience using espresso machines, the machine works well and creates a tasty and hot drink. My first drink with this was a made a vanilla latte and it was fairly simple to use once you master the frother. There is literally a few seconds to steam your milk between turning on the steam wand and getting your pitcher in place. If you take too long, the milk will not be steamed properly. Also, one thing to note is the wand is very stiff and hard to maneuver, so you almost have to angle your pitcher to get it in place. As a warning the milk pitcher does get extremely hot, so if you have little ones, keep them away from the machine as it gets extremely hot and the sheer weight and size of the machine should be considered.
The device comes with the instruction manual, QR code instructions, quick start guide, product registration, tamper, milk pitcher, cleaning kit, portafilter, cleaning brush, water hardness strip, cleaning brush, cleaning solution, and both single and double shot filters.

Great looking and easy to use
on December 5, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps

This tree is a great choice for the holidays. Standing at over 7 feet tall, it certainly makes a presence.
The box includes the three tree sections, stand, safety caps, tightening wrenches, instruction manual, and limited warranty. The tree is fairly easy to set up which takes about 15 minutes to complete. The assembly is simple; make an e 'X' shape out of the tree stand, insert section 'A', 'B', then 'C', secure the tree into the stand by tightening the wrenches(included), connect the light outlets with each other, and finally expand the branches to make them appear ‘fuller’.
This tree is definitely on the higher end. The branches are sturdy and are wrapped in some sort of material to make it look more 'natural'. The tree comes pre-lit, and you have your option between white and multi colored lights, and everything in between. The tree has a remote control for the lights attached to it, if you want to change the ambiance of the lightning. The tree is beautiful once it's all assembled and lit up. Even though the tree is over 7' tall it's not too wide, so it can fit tighter living spaces with ease.
I have two items I would change. One, the branches are not sturdy enough to hold themselves up when you are assembling the tree. Second, the tree does seem to lose its 'needles' quite easily. I had to vacuum immediately after; hopefully the remaining needles will last with time.
Overall, the tree is beautiful and would highly recommend it, it even comes with a 2 light warranty, and 5 year tree warranty.

Great for small spaces or short use
on November 9, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps

It’s that time of year where humidifiers come in handy.
Summary: The Pure humidifier is compact, quiet, and efficient.
Unboxing: The package comes with the owner’s manual, a cleaning brush, company contact information, registration information, charger, and the humidifier.
The humidifier is easy to use, just plug it in and fill the water tank, and that’s it. The power button allows you to control the mist settings to your personal preference from low to high and variations in between. Depending on your setting the light is activated within the humidifier which is a nice touch.
The design is small, compact, and sleek so it’s easy to fit any size space needed. It is great for countertops.
The only two minor negatives I noticed are the size of the charger, it’s bulky, so make sure enough room is between the outlet and any barriers if you plug it in behind a dresser or other furniture. Additionally, it’s a smaller humidifier, so I would estimate 5-7 hours possibly for max use. It is good for daytime use with that capacity, but you might need to refill it if ill in bed in which case I might recommend a larger capacity.

Best neckband out there
on October 26, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Summary: Sony’s attention to quality is apparent in this product. The sounds quality is nothing short of amazing.
Unboxing: The speakers come with wireless neckband speaker, instructions, reference guide, 30 day 360 reality audio music trial, limited one year warranty, license agreement, charging cable, DC Cable, Digital Cable, and TV connection dock.
The speaker is set up is fairly easy. The app does most of the work for you, the users only real ‘job’ is to download the app, take pictures of your ears to ensure the sound adapts to your ears. If you utilize it with a Bravia TV, connect it to the TV for setup the first time, this will enable additional features if you use with certain TV’s.
Design/ Use: Overall, very ergonomic and sits very comfortable on your shoulders, neck, and color bone. The quality seems solid as it carries some weight. You can conveniently control the volume from the device it’s connected to, so need to remove the speaker. I enjoyed using it on walks, cooking and mowing the lawn as it is easy to pay attention to your surroundings while enjoying podcasts or music.
The acoustics are nothing short of incredible. Listening to various genres of music from
Classical, Phantom of the Opera (musicals), Kyoto by Skrillex (Alternative), Cancion Bonita and Roberto in Beso (Latin), Hypnotize (Hip Hop), and Losing my Religion (rock) audio was detailed and punch. People around me did not notice too much sound bleeding from the speaker causing little annoyance to them. The speakers allow you to listen to the music in the context that it was intended to convey. You truly feel speakers are surrounding you while focusing on your immediate ear/head area.
The only thing I would change about these speakers is I wish they included a case with it. As these speakers would be perfect on road trips, flights, etc.
Otherwise these speakers are a great purchase and provide an outstanding experience.

Great overall, mixed build quality

This mirror should have good appeal to most people. It is easy to set up, has great magnification and is aesthetically pleasing.
Setup takes less than two minutes and is mostly self explanatory. It comes with everything, including batteries.
The mirror will allow you to easily see pores, any part of your face and has great lighting. The battery compartment is somewhat difficult to reach and feels slightly cheap but the rest of the mirror has a quality feel to it with a sturdy build.
The mirror is prone to smudges and fingerprints so a microfiber cloth is useful to keep nearby as needed.
Inside the box you will find a mirror, batteries, the stand and instructions.

Outstanding sound bar
on September 28, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Summary: I love this speaker. It hits way above its weight class with strong powerful sound, great feature set and a good look overall. It is easy to set up and can be expanded for greater surround sound.
Unboxing: The box is extremely form fitting to the device and comes packaged in an L shape box. Inside you will find the speaker, an HDMI cable, power cables, the subwoofer, a remote and some documentation. It is well packed to protect it in transit and easy to unbox.
Set up: If you simply want to plug it in and go that is available to you. The Subwoofer is wireless but it is pre-synced with the sound bar so you won’t have to do anything fancy to get them paired. There is a separate power cable for the subwoofer and the sound bar. The HDMI cable should be connected to the HDMI-ARC connection for greatest feature set and the ability to control the volume and power with just your TV remote. I highly recommend digging through your TV settings and ensuring your sound is set up for some sort of surround compatibility so you don’t limit yourself to a setup that doesn’t bring out the full feature set.
I tried further setup on a Samsung S21 Ultra but had some difficulty pairing them together. After a number of tries, it did eventually work and updated the firmware. If you use a Samsung Phone, you can pair it with Samsung Smartthings and add it to your home devices in their ecosystem.
Bluetooth streaming is a breeze with Samsung phones and you can simply hover your phone near the device to get them paired up for audio.
Use/performance: I tried it out with my Xbox One Series X and Apple TV 4K which both have Atmos support. Configuration on those devices was minimal but you have to ensure Atmos is enabled. Watching a few movies that have Atmos support, I was in love with this speaker. The top firing speakers are not mind blowing but they provide additional fullness to the sound and greater immersion. The sound bar and subwoofer are extremely loud if you so wish and the audio has great contrast between highs and lows. Bass is powerful so I did have to turn that down a bit.
Upgrading: There are addition wireless surround speakers available for purchase with this unit but you would have to set them up to pair with the device the first time. If you are looking for better surround, I highly recommend that upgrade for a full 5.1.2 system.
Even though the app pairing was a bit wonky, I think the only other thing I would like improved is the build quality of the subwoofer, it feels a little on the cheaper side of build quality. Even with those hits against it, I still give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Good but loud
on September 19, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Summary: A good vacuum with loads of convenience but a few flaws. The unit comes with a set up guide, two brushes for installation and the base unit.
The vacuum has your average robot vacuum look with an elevated camera for better mapping and detection. It is a little higher off the ground so might not be able to clear low furniture. The base is rather large and requires 3ft from the sides and 5ft in front of it for proper use.
Set up: Using a QR code, you will be directed to the app. After creating an account, the robot will map your house for efficiency. I experienced the app freezing routinely on iOS during setup so it turned into a rather tedious process. The first charge takes about six hours. To be fair, the battery will last well over the time it takes to vacuum but expect some time if it is drained. The first mapping can take place after it is charged.
Use: The robot seems to be rather efficient in cleaning choosing a good route that doesn’t appear random. After it is done, it will dock with its base and dispose of trash which can hold up to six months worth of trash. The convenience is outstanding. But… the vacuum is very loud. It routinely makes sounds as if it is winding up and winding down and might scare animals. There is no mopping ability in this unit.
If the vacuum was a little quieter and had a better app, I would give it a full rating but the issues leave it at 3 out of 5.

Game was not tested properly
By skullboy88 from Los Angeles, CA
First of all the reason for such a low rating is that the game is not playable. Right out the box. Now, I have been building pc's for over 10 years and have sunk hundreds of dollars into my rig to play the most demanding games. And I do. The problem is that ID software sent out a game to the public that is not finished. Google, rage graphics problems and you will find a magnitude of arcticles about poor graphics bad drivers and other issues. AMD and Nvidia have been working for a driver patch but reports from many say they do not work to fix the tearing and poor rendering . People are paying $60.00 for a pc game. Dont you think it should work right away without having to wait for a patch?

Horrid Sound

I had pair of Sony Headphones that I bought a few years ago for approx. $50 dollars... Sounded Amazing, but I recently ran then over with my car... Anyway bought these assuming the sound would be similar and also compensate for my only complaint with my other heardphones which was falling constantly out of my ear during workouts. Turns out these are more expensive but that sound terrible. Tried changing the setting on my IPOD and there is no overcoming the lack of bass. I am a auidiophile and I do listen to music a lot of double bass and drums so bass is something I must have in a headphone. If that's what you looking for don't buy these. I'm confident cheaper headphones with the same quality sound can be obtained so I would not recommend these to anyone...

Balanced Armature
June 28, 2012
Balanced Armature headphones are designed to sound like the original recording. Most headphones these days are "dynamic armature" which are designed kind of like a hardware equilizer where bass is usually most important. Any of these balanced armature headphones are aimed specifically at audiophiles as they repoduce very true to original sound with detailed mid ranges and highs.

Lenovo y500?

Ok so I was really looking forward to buying the lenovo ideapad y500 i5 version for $889.98. It said it was sold out but I wasn't worried, figuring it would be restocked in around a week. However, today I looked and it's been taken off the site. It's a shame because it was an amazing laptop, and I couldn't believe it was taken off. I was also wondering WHY it had been taken off. It seemed to make no sense. I would see if it had bad reviews and problems, but the lenovo had 2 ratings, both 5 star! I was very dissapointed and it looks like I'll have to go to TigerDirect and try to find it. If there's something I might not know, please tell me.
Thanks
Though I could not answer any specifics as the reasoning, I might be able to speculate. I have seen the Y series as very well configured for amazing prices in places. After reading reviews, a common trend mentioned of sub par build quality, most notably the touch pad would sink into the chassis. This would be enough to anger me after purchase. For the price, it might still be well worth it though.
