Use your smartphone hands-free while driving with this Nite Ize Steelie Orbiter dash mount kit. The low-profile metal plate attaches to your device easily, while the neodymium magnet holds the metal plate, mounting your smartphone on the dash securely to prevent accidental slipping on bumpy roads. This Nite Ize Steelie Orbiter dash mount kit has a silicone center for adjusting the phone's viewing angle smoothly.

simple but great mount
on February 24, 2020
Posted by: Alex

this is a very simple, but easy to use mount that holds your phone well.
This works like many of the magnetic type mounts that are on the market. There is a very thin metal plate that you attach to the back of your phone/case, and then a ball mount that attaches to you dash, or wherever you plan on putting it. You simply just place your phone over the mount and the magnet grabs it and holds it in place.
The plate that goes on the back of your phone is VERY thin compared to other brands. However, just know that this will block wireless charging from working.
The mount holds strong and stays in position. Works very well.

lots of power for a compact design
on January 3, 2020
Posted by: Alex

When I saw the size of this projector, I was a wee bit skeptical on what kind of image this would produce. Well, let me tell you, its bright!
Whats in the box: Projector, power cable, android streaming stick.
Setup: Very easy (not counting any mounting or cable runs, just the device itself). If you want to use this stand alone with streaming services and the built in or bluetooth speaker, all you need is power. After opening the box, you take the back panel off (easy, just pops off) and you plug in the streaming stick to the HDMI input and use the USB power cable built in to the projector. Turn it on and you are basically good to go. The manual focus is easy to use, just slide it back and fourth. If you are just setting the projector on a table, there is a built in sliding height adjustment as well, which is very handy.
Use: The menu is deep, but not too deep. You can adjust installation (flip the image how you need it, adjust the "skew" of the image etc.). Set up bluetooth speakers if you'd like, and adjust the brightness/color etc to your little hearts content.
Image/sound quality: First off, is this only 1080P? yes. Does it make a huge difference? I honestly don't think so. In this price range I don't see a difference between this and 4K projectors. I think the crispness that the laser vs. bulb offers make a key difference here. I was very impressed with the image quality. Sound: Is the sound good? Meh. Is it good for a built in speaker for a projector? YES. It works in a pinch for outside viewing or throwing together a viewing party type thing, but if permanently installing, I would definitely want an outside source of sound. Now, this projector supports bluetooth audio, so if you needing the projector to "reroute" the inputted audio, you can do this, BUT beware of audio lag. Bluetooth will have some sort of lag between the video and the audio. It isn't bad, but I'm an audio snob and I notice it. I have this projector set up with a receiver with HDMI switching providing the video to the projector, with audio separate.
Overall: Excellent picture quality, I'm very impressed with the laser vs. bulb output. Sound is good for built in speakers, but wouldn't use permanently. For the price, you don't get much better than this.

create a dance party and improve movies
on November 29, 2019

I LOVE the sync box. Let me explain why.
I have tried using apps in the past that would sync the lights to video and/or sound, but the delay in the lights changing just made it not feel right. This fixed all of that.
Whats in the box: HDMI cable, power cable, sync box.
Setup: Very easy. There are 4 HDMI inputs, one HDMI output, USB input and power. I only used one of the HDMI inputs, as I have a home theater receiver with HDMI switching. Otherwise this unit would be its own HDMI switcher that would make it easy to use with 4 different devices. I also don't use the USB cable, as all it does is detect if a TV is powered on by detecting power from a cable connected to the TV. HDMI CEC takes care of that for me. After plugging in the sync box in-between my receiver and the tv, time to set it up in the app. I'm not sure why, but this device requires a separate app from Hue, as its not built in to the "regular" app. You do, though, have to set up the entertainment area in the regular app first. This is easy to do, and supports up to 10 lights. During the entertainment setup, it uses a graphic of a TV, and you drag the lights to show the position in the room. Easy. After you do this, you go back to the new sync app, and adjust some simple settings in there....more on that later.
Use: Once the box is set up, you use the sync app to adjust the settings you want to, well, adjust. You pick between sync modes: video, music or game. Intensity: subtle, moderate, high or extreme. Brightness: A slider to adjust the base brightness that the lights use.
How it works: The sync box analyses the sound and video, and matches the lights to what you are watching/listening to. I have found for movies, I keep it on "high" intensity for action, or "moderate" for drama type movies. Music, I keep it on intense as it follows the beat of the music very well. For all uses I keep the brightness setting midway, or a tad below the middle.
Overall: There is NO lag in the light changes, and it matches very well. I use two hue play bars behind my tv, and it is awesome. The CEC settings work perfectly, and I have zero issues during setup messing with CEC. I have had that in the past with other devices, but none with this. The only con is that it uses a separate app, but the pro of that con (does that make sense?) is that it is one tap and your in for changing the settings, and you aren't digging through menus of the regular hue app.

confusing setup and exercises in beginning
on November 11, 2019
Posted by: Alex
from Minnesota
Whats in the box: Door harness, suspension harness, handles and a carrying bag. Also a card with a free trial subscription to workouts.
Setup: It was a big confusing. The setup card in the box was not much help and was pretty vague. I went to the website to get an account and help setting it up, and that was a process. I had to create an account, then type in a long access code, then type in the serial number of the harness. Then all I could get were more PDF's of exercises to do. Not really much help. I then found that there is an app, so I downloaded that. Once I got the app up and running, it was much more helpful. There are many videos, and it can sync with an Apple Watch for heart rate and other notifications which is helpful. I just wish the box directed me to do that, rather than just using vague PDF's.
Use: Once you actually figure out how to set it up, the use is fairly easy. Good luck using the PDF's to figure out how to do an exercise though. Once I watched the videos on my phone, it was fairly easy to use. You have to adjust the length of the handles for different exercises. Once you get the hang of it, it is quick to do, but in the beginning it will take some fumbling around.
Some of the exercises are good, some of them I feel are just a gimmick to use the device. The best part is that it is very portable, and can be used on basically any door. If you travel a lot, this would be easy to use in a hotel room.
Overall: Not sure its totally worth the price. Confusing setup and I'm not completely sold on some of the exercises. If you travel a lot, its more worth it than just staying at home.

amazing steaks!
on November 4, 2019

from Minnesota
Do you like cooking? Do you want to have the best steak of your life? Buy this!
Whats in the box: The cooker, a mount for almost any pot and a small getting started guide. NO BAGS, you must provide your own sous vide bags.
Setup: While optional to set up the wifi, you really should as the app is where this shines. It only took me a few minutes to set up the wifi and the app.
Use: This is a very easy device to use and set up is simple. You mount the cooker to your pot, fill up the pot with water, throw in your food and wait. The app lets you search for recipes, and immediately send those settings to the cooker, so you don't have to do anything other than press start. great! If you do not want to use the app, the buttons (I say buttons, really just a touch screen) are easy to use.
results: the most tender steak I've ever eaten. Seriously the results were amazing. Perfectly cooked and I didn't have to worry about over cooking at all. So far I have only cooked steak, and its probably worth the cost alone just for steak. I'm looking forward to trying chicken as well.
Cons: When I first set up the cooker, I got an error message that the impeller was stuck. I followed the instructions on line to get it working. It was easy to do, but a little un-nerving that out of the box I got an error. It did cook fine for over 2 hours, and the water heated up quite quickly. The noise is the other con. While not loud, it is definitely noticeable. Noticeable enough you probably don't want to be in the same room as the high pitched noise will get annoying after a while.
Overall: If you are serious about cooking, get this. It will open a whole new world of cooking.

good weight and protection, nice button "clicking"
on November 1, 2019
Posted by: Alex

This is a nice feeling phone case for the iPhone 11 pro. Has good weight to it, and I mean that in a good way. Not heavy, but not too light either. The buttons on the case have a VERY nice feel to them. I'm not sure what they did, but something about how they click feels nicer than most other cases I've used.
The case has a nice rubber/plastic feel to it. It has a smooth surface, but is not slippery like I was afraid it was going to be.
A couple downfalls: Since the case is clear, it requires a NASA clean room in order to put it on the phone without something obviously getting stuck between the back of the phone and the case and being obvious. I had to take the case off and put it back on a few times while wiping it with a microfiber cloth. Also, the "self healing" scratching doesn't seem to do much, as the back of the case already looks scratched, and I'm very careful with my phone and where I put it.
Overall: Nice feeling case and looks good, but tough to get it to look super clean when on.

basic, but basic is good
on October 25, 2019
Posted by: Alex
from Minnesota
This is a basic air fryer, but honestly I like it more than one with a bunch of features. Basically all this has is a timer and a temp setting. No fancy auto cook functions or anything. I've used other air fryers with "French fry" and other types of buttons. I really don't like it because I can't control what is actually going on. With this air fryer, you set the temperature that you need, and set a timer and this yields the best results.
The unit itself is quiet while it is on and is a decent size. If you have a large family, or are cooking for a lot of people, this will be too small. It is large enough for 2-3 servings of fries, but not much more. It is also easy to clean, so you won't be dreading cleaning it after you use it.
Overall: easy to use, good cooking results, easy to clean, quiet and a good footprint size on the counter.

powerful blender and juicer
on October 11, 2019
Posted by: Alex
from Minnesota
This is a very nice blender, with attention to detail and features you'll love. This has 3 main features: "regular" blender, juicer and vacuum seal. I'll talk about those.
Blender: This is a very powerful, smart blender with attention to detail. The lids snap on very well, with no holding down required. There are suction cup feet which keep the blender held down to the counter with no bouncing or dancing around. The Smart IQ modes actually do make it look like you know what you're doing. Depending on which one you press, it changes speeds and pauses to let the contents settle. It really does make a difference. It comes with two pitchers: 72 oz large, and a smaller almost water bottle size.
Juicer: While this is not a true juicer, it does work well for what it is. There is a sleeve insert with a mesh filter. You insert this into the large pitcher, and fill with fruit. The blender then, well, blends the fruit and the juice squeezes through the mesh while leaving the pulp and large chunks in the sleeve. The juice is slightly thicker than normal, but is still very, very good for a blender that is juicing.
Vacuum drink saver: This is a new one for me on a blender. This feature will suck all the air out of the pitcher, thus keeping the contents fresh. This is useful for making a smoothie for the morning, at night, and then saving it. Now you don't have to wake up extra early and wake up the whole house making a drink! This works on both the large, and small pitchers. The vacuum is strong enough to even suck the bubbles out of the drinks themselves.
Overall: Very nice, capable blender. This can do a lot well, and has a very nice build quality. The features are actually useful, and not just a marketing gimmick like some other products have.

great electric brush
on October 8, 2019
Posted by: Alex
from Minnesota
Since this is a fairly simple product, this is a fairly simple review. None the less, this is still a great toothbrush.
Whats in the box? Brush handle, two brush heads, charging cable and charging dock.
Use: Very easy to use. 2 minute timer with interval reminders to change positions in your mouth. 3 intensities to use, and they are very easy to switch between. The charging stand is compact and simple to use.
Brush heads: The charcoal activated brush heads and what this toothbrush is all about. While they are a great softness, not too soft and not too firm, I'm not sold on what exactly the activated charcoal does. Maybe I haven't had it long enough to notice a difference.
Overall: Great electric bush, especially for the price. Not sold on the specialized brush heads yet, but I don't dislike them either.

best completely wireless system
on October 8, 2019
Posted by: Alex
from Minnesota
This is an excellent multi camera, completely wireless camera system.
Whats in the box: Hub (MUST connect directly to router), 2 cameras, 1 magnetic and 1 screw mount, charger.
Setup: VERY easy. Connect the hub to power and your router via ethernet, download the app on your phone, put the batteries in the cameras and you're on your way. There are MANY settings for the cameras, which you can delve into later, as you can just power these babies on and watch away if you'd like.
Picture quality: For battery powered cameras, it is quite amazing. Very good picture quality and excellent night vision. There is a built in spot light that allows for color night vision, though It is not very good for distance. A front door or gate camera though, this would be great. Stick to regular night vision for a driveway or yard for example.
Features: These cameras record anytime there is motion, or you manually start a recording. They do not continuously record, which is expected for a battery powered camera. The motion detection is quite good. It can differentiate between people, animals, vehicles and more. In my experience so far, my driveway camera always detects regular motion, people, or vehicles...and it is spot on. You can set up activity zones, right in the app, to detect motion in certain areas as well. There is two way sound, they record audio, and you can press a button in the app to speak through a speaker in the camera. I haven't found a use for that yet though, but hearing sound when its recording has been handy.
App: Many feature to choose from. Viewing videos that have been recorded is easy, and manually starting live view is very easy as well. You can change activity zones, motion notifications, night vision and spot light settings and much much more from the app. Very easy to use.
Battery life: time will tell. I've been using them outside in 50ish degree weather for a few days, and they are at about 93%. They advertise around 6 months, but I'm not so sure. I'm glad they are rechargeable batteries now rather disposable. charging is easy, but you, obviously, have to take the camera down off the mount to charge. Depending on where you mount them, that could be a giant pain. You should though, think about that before you mount them, as it's not a secret that you'll need to charge them.
Overall: Not as good as a hard wired always on CCTV camera, but its not meant to be. You can mount these in places that would be very difficult, if not impossible, with a wired camera. I have one down near my mail box, which would be impossible without dredging power and all sorts of stuff to it. The picture quality is great, and the range you get is typical of a wifi router.

in order to turn it on or off you have to do it while holding the trigger.
