I've used the Scosche and Metra equivalent of this kit.. don't bother with anything but this Maestro piece. This is THE kit to get. It looks great, fatory style controls.. and the biggest thing; IT WORKS. Don't bother with anything but this piece. Highly recommended.

The perfect compromise for most listeners!

This is the piece the car audio world was waiting for. It's been out a while and I still am in love with it. Keep in mind, the ratings on this from Alpine are *overrated*. This isn't going to do 45x4. I see more commonly 35-40wrms per channel. Still double of what you get with a headunit (which is about 15-20wrmsx4#. Most speakers in the mid-level category love running on this, JBL, Alpine E or S series, Kicker, etc... this is a perfect contender to get that 'little extra' where the headunit isn't quite doing it, but a full size 50w+ per channel amp just isn't necessary #or too expensive#. You don't need a run to the battery in most cases for power, so install is simple. Keep an eye on the dipswitches when setting it up, if you look at the diagram wrong youll be 180* off on each dipswitch setting for tuning it, lol.
Also, this is great to run 2 channels bridged to keep a factory Honda or Subaru sub working when replacing the headunit in some cases.
Versatility, double what a headunit puts out for power, and inexpensive. Perfect for the casual listener who demands more than entry level, but doesn't require a ridiculously expensive audiophile system.

Kenwood entry level touchscreen does work!
on May 24, 2015
Posted by: StallationGuy
from Central WI
Touchscreen prices have slowly been creeping down, and unit quality and responsiveness of Kenwoods has been going up, year over year. This unit fast enough to not be frustrating (a few years ago that wasn't the case) and is loaded with all the 'entry level' stuff you could want in a touchscreen for this price, BU cam input, good Bluetooth, usb and AV inputs, etc. The display is attractive and having a *knob* to control volume seems to be a dying art.. but this has it, and it's great. Rear USB and AV inputs allow for a clean installation of female inputs elsewhere on the dash, just like factory. Can't say enough good stuff about an entry level touchscreen like this, I really like it.

Attractive price, average display graphics
on May 24, 2015
Posted by: StallationGuy
from Central WI
Make no mistake, this is a budget touchscreen with Pioneer's dependability. If you look at the display (in person or online) you can note that the graphics just aren't great. The user interface looks downright bad in comparison to the 2700, 3700, appradio, etc. It's more along the lines of BOSS or Pyle as far as looks go. So that's a bummer. But the unit itself has enough features, and is fast enough for that to be OK, given the price. If this was much more, it wouldn't be worth it, but got a budget unit the menus navigate quickly and you'll find most of the same features of a more expensive Pioneer touchscreen, BU cam capability, Bluetooth, a decent EQ, etc. For an extra $50 the Kenwood 372 is more attractive graphically, but for someone on a budget, this unit does work.

Works good for manual trans cars
on November 10, 2014
Posted by: StallationGuy
from Central WI
This is now necessary to do a Compustar RS for a manual trans car. It is not only a shock sensor, but an acceleration sensor, too. If for some reason the trans is put into gear after doing the secure shutdown and the car tries to remote start in gear, this senses that it moves and stops the RS sequence. I've tested this before trying to RS the car while I sit in it after putting it into gear.. it lurches forward a couple feet tops then stop and doesn't try to start again. A very good safety feature if you park with dogs/kids in your car or with the windows down.
the tilt sensing is great if you have rims you want to protect from theft, too.

Amazing multipurpose speakers
on April 4, 2014
Posted by: StallationGuy
from Central WI
This is the overall best set of mid-level priced speakers for overall dynamic applications. The midbass drivers are beefy, can handle their rated power (and more, it seems) and have a solid hit behind them. The tweeters can be tuned very nicely based upon their placement and the tuning of their output on the crossover. If you want them to be bright and loud, placed high in the panel and set to +3 will give you that. If you want a smooth, mellow, warm treble note low panel mounting and -3 on the crossover and you're golden. This is the most pleasing set of tweeters I may have ever heard, I love them.
Currently I'm running them off a 50x4 watt rms amp. This set of speakers is heavy enough you absolutely have to amp them to experience them in their full greatness. Un-amped they're OK, but are dull in comparison to being properly powered.
What's great about it: Tweeters are warm and dynamic, bass is right where it needs to be
What's not so great: Deep midbass, may be difficult to fit in some applications
I would recommend this to a friend!

Won't Handle Synth Bass
By Mattack5k from San Ramon, Ca
I Spent a long time today in the store listening to different speaker's, trying to find the one that would fit my need's the best. Eventually I decided on these, as they sounded the best in the store and had full 5 star reviews. I installed them and I really have to say I am very unimpressed. They Cannot handle synth bass at all! That means Hip hop, and Electronica stuff is pretty much out of the question. I gotta say though that for real bass guitar, like jazz for instance, sounds really great on these. They get Loudish, but get pretty distorted so I cant recommended them for use with a sub. Value for the price? I gotta say pretty low. If your looking for something that gets loud there are some $50 Kenwood's at Best Buy that are vastly superior in that regard.

no good with amp/sub?
March 19, 2012
A speaker that doesn't have praticularly "good" bass output without distortion works BEST with an amp/ sub... you feed all the mids/highs into the speaker and use the sub for bass, as designed. Bass frequencies are the most difficult to reproduce for any non-sub style speaker, since they take much more cone excursion in comparison to mids/highs. That extra excursion takes extra power.. and since these are rated for tons more power than any wimpy headunit's internal amp (about 20rmsx4) could put out, of course they won't have good bass response without distortion.
However... hook these up in a car with an amp/sub.. turn the bass down and the sub up.. and let them shine on those mids/highs. That's how a true SQ system is built.
I will say, however, that when properly amped these cane have solid bass response. A set of these and Polk 6x9s in the rear on a Chrysler 300 that I did sounded "Ok" when running on the stock headunit (as expected), but once we broke them in for a week, then amped them.. they were an absolute dream.
That's not to say they don't sound good on just a headunit's power.. very solid there, too.. but don't get them if you want to "bump" without a sub. Look into the Alpine Type-S speakers if you want a bass-y speaker. Or the Pioneer A-series 6x9s. Very solid bass response from both of those.. best I've heard from just speakers.

Never able to use it
By NAMCZERO from Joliet, Illinois
I went into Best Buy to purchase a remote start for my wifes Christmas Present. I had the employee look up her Volkswagon Passat and supply me with a parts list with installation.
I chose to go online and purchase the components as a package deal with installation included. I gave it to my wife for Christmas and she was thrilled. When she went to have it installed, she was told that Best Buy will not install remote start units on Volkswagons.
What a HUGE let down for her - Now its the end of January and im still waiting to recieve my shipping refund. The entire order and results has been a complete disaster. Best Buy should not sell a product with installation, when the can not install it. That is as wrong as it gets.

Got a bad installer....
October 27, 2013
You must've run into one of the installers in the company you DONT want to work on your VW anyway.
I'm the lead tech at store 1052 and I can tell you we DO work on VWs, and with this your wife could've gotten it installed and working... but the tech you spoke with must've been scared of import cars. It's a shame, but not related to the product.

Product review of CompuStar - ADS-BLADE AL Cartrid
By UcleTommy from Fernley,NV
It apparently does everything it was designed to do...as stated in the product write-ups, except I do not have a manual to give me an idea what it is suppose to do! The truck starts, the doors lock, the truck runs for 15 minutes before shutting down. This review could have been better with proper information.

Features and manual:
October 27, 2013
There's no manual for this product because all the manuals are online. It's simply an interface product. All the features it conducts will be based upon the remote start it's paired up with. And if the car starts with the remote start, that means it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do!

Great starter for the price. I'm glad it came with the installation. Wouldn't recommend it for a 2011 Chevy Equinox. My car kept fighting with the geek squad tech which caused the installation to go from 3 hours to 5 hours not to mention some parts were dead on arrival. Overall I would buy one again. It does help the car I think run better, the ac is cooler just getting it started up a few seconds earlier.

It is compatible
October 8, 2014
2011 Equinox is 100% compatible with this unit. The DBALL2 bypass works perfect. There's not reason to not have this installed in a 2011 Equinox.
However, other circumstances (being busy with phonecalls, etc that kind of nonsense) sometimes drive an install that should be quick and easy into a longer time period, keep in mind.

When does the issue shift from product to install?
March 2, 2015
After trying to install one, then two, then three, and having all 3 not work properly, I'm going go ahead and be that guy; it was installed wrong. I've used a boatload of this specific one, and I have had one fail on me from a bad solder where the RCA meets the board. That's it. To have 3 fail in a row is unheard of.

Will my automatic car starter contract be voided?

I got an automatic car starter put in my car back in November of 2013, and I ended up getting a crack in the windshield from coal flying off of coal trucks...if I get my windshield replaced will that void my lifetime warranty on the automatic car starter if the glass company who replaces my windshield damage the automatic starter that is mounted to the windshield?
That's just the antenna that's mounted to the windshield. The warranty should not be void from that, because nothing else was fooled around with. It will, however, need a new antenna, and possible cable depending on the extent of damage the glass company caused. Those can be sourced through Viper, online, etc. Depending on the cost you may want to ask the glass company to cover it, since they're the ones who broke it (theoretically?). Replacement of the antenna / cable is not labor intensive, though, and can be done quickly and easily once the parts have been gotten and you'll be on the road again.

how much to install.. doors lock and unlock..hood pin for alarm..remote start.. trunk release

I have a 1969 Dodge D200.. which i would like to install.. engine start.. doors lock and unlock.. hood pin alarm and trunk release..

I have purchased and installed aftermarket door locks and windows (spral) already.. they do not make oem for this vehicle..

I also purchased the trunck relase and and ran it to my engine.. the reason for this is to use it to prime my carburated vehicle prior to remote start..

If i read properly the Viper - LCD 2-Way Security and Remote Start System - 5706V.. will fit my need.. im just wonder if you will do the job cause the un-normal use of the trunk reease and how much the insall will cost..
There's several different ways to actuate the trunk solenoid that's being used to prime the carb on older cars. Each installer has their own method, as well as pricing for said method. It's difficult to quote custom labor online, because things like the shape of the vehicle and desired outcome are variables that need to be inspected / discussed in person. I would contact your local BestBuy's autotech and then you two can take the time necessary to hash out a plan and get a good solid estimate.

third party

If I purchase a Viper remote start through the Best Buy website, but it's a third party seller, is the system still warrantied by Viper ?
No it will not, Viper's warranty requires it to be sold via a Viper dealer. BestBuy is, but the majority of 3rd party sellers online are not.

Will This Fit A 2006 Dodge Magnum

If your Magnum came with FACTORY navigation it will. Just need the normal dashkit like any other car.
If it DIDNT come with factory nav (the 2 knob radio with the 'ears' where the knobs extend past its face) it'll need a new factory nav radio bezel, or the factory radio bezel will need to be cut/modified to fit (not a huge issue)
