Portable HDD

If you need 1TB of portable slim storage that looks good this is the drive. It is USB, easily portable and case seems tough enough to throw in your bag and go.
Performance wise this drive is great. It has the performance you'd expect from a USB 3.0 drive. I've attached my Crystalmark run from my PC. Large files it gets 126 MB write, which I find to be about what I'd expect from a Hard Drive, esp. a portable one.
I've had no problems with it. To further test I copied the game Echo to the drive and ran it from the portable HDD on my laptop and I didn't notice any issues while playing.
Setup was plug and play with Windows 10 and my Kids Chromebook.
I'm happy with the performance. The packaging has a nice look if that matters to you and the housing is solid.

Great Gaming Mouse

This is a great gaming mouse. It works and works well. I didn't have any issue with the sensor on my desk surface. I was able to tune it to my needs and the braided cord looks nice. The ability to add some additional weight made it feel prefect in my hands. It was plug and go. They do have additional software for customization, which works and is nice, but the fact it isn't needed to get this mouse to work great for gaming is all I care about.
It felt and moved as I expected, never had an issue in tracking or it freaking out. If you need a new mouse and don't mind it being wired this definitely the one to try. It worked perfectly. Logitech and the Hero sensor they have is prefect. Just very impressed with this.

Nice Light Headphones

For a pair of headphones that have a long battery life (around 24-30hr) they are very light weight for what they do.
They are easy to setup and pair with a Bluetooth phone/computer. Didn't have any problems pairing and using. The touch controls on the headphones make it easy to switch songs, or hear someone talking to you.
The sound of the headphones is good, the bass is punchy without losing the rest of the music/game/voice you are listening too.
The noise cancelling works fairly well, esp. when you are playing music to quite the soundstage to just the music that people have to work at times to get your attention.
If you want a lightweight comfortable, but good set of headphones that have great battery life and awesome sound with the ability to bass it up as my daughter tells me this is definitely the pair for you.

Just what I was looking for

This is just perfect for my downstairs hardwood/tile floors with some carpets. I can vacuum/rinse floors without cords easily enough and even go over the rugs. It gets the floors clean and sucks up the liquid to keep mostly dry. Since it vaccums at the same time for simple cleaning its a one and done. The major issue I had with this, is the battery isn't quite long enough to do my whole downstairs in one pass. For me that isn't a deal breaker as I tend to do a room a day downstairs so the battery life isn't an issue and this does save me a bit of time since I can vaccum and mop at the same time.
I do like it comes with a pad for cleaning so when your done you can clean your brushes and hang them drive and store everything neatly.
If you have a large area to clean and do it at once you might want to look for more batteries to swap in or a non-cordless model. Otherwise I'm happy and it fills a roll that allows me vacuum and mop at once. I didn't have any issue on hardwood floors or tiled kitchen. It got it clean and I'm happy with it.

Awesome Monitor

This is a ideal 25" 1080p. It has all the features you would want on a gaming monitor: Support for 240hz refresh and Adaptive Sync technology. In this case they are using FreeSync the AMD sync method. Basically this monitor matches to your FPS giving you a smooth gaming performance. For those with NVidia cards this is also a GSync Compatible monitor. This means any NVidia card that is from the 10 Series, 16 Series or 20 Series card will also be able to use FreeSync to keep your gaming smooth.
The design of the monitor is nice and has a really solid stand, moves up and down to get the height is nice. The back of the monitor also doubles as a headphone stand.
It has a few different modes, including gaming mode where you can enable a FPS counter and other features. It was nice to see an addition of features added.
The picture of this monitor for a 1080p is sharp and bright and honestly it was great to play games like Froza Horizon and Rocket League on it. Smooth enjoyable fast frame gameplay.
If you want a 1080p Monitor for fast smooth gaming this is the monitor to consider. I think HP did a really good job with it. Giving the features I want as a gamer. Smooth silky gameplay.

Solid HW with poor Cooling

Solid HW with poor Cooling
TDLR: HP Omen has very solid HW that makes a great PC for gaming with the ability to tinker with it in a solid looking case, hampered however by poor airflow.
SPECS
Solid Intel 9700 that will give you 8 full CPU cores that provide solid performance for any game you want to throw at the CPU. The Nvidia 1660 TI 6GB card is a solid gaming card at 1080p with just about everything turned on or 1440p with some adjustments to keep the framerate at 60fps+. It does have 16GB of RAM and HP clearly sates it is one stick. Depending on the workload you want use the PC for a single stick of RAM can have a slight to noticeable performance impact. It depends on how Memory intensive the application is. However this difference is really only noticeable if you had two sticks and then took one out, if you are starting with this PC no worries, but I highly recommend you plan on getting a second stick for the extra performance. The boot drive is an NVME so you will get plenty of speed on bootup and Windows will be snappy no doubt. They have a 1TB standard HDD to store your games. They also added a Wireless Bluetooth card as well as a decent amount of USB and other ports for connecting peripherals. The Power Supply is 500W 80+ standard looking ATX.
The Case
The Case allows for simple upgrades to add or swap parts, and it was nice to see HP providing a case designed for easy user upgrade. It is a Nice looking case with tempered glass. The down side is HP doesn’t believe in a thing called airflow. To make this look clean they have the front panel blocked with your HDD, and the exhaust fan isn’t even 120MM for airflow. No additional intake, so as you use your PC it will get hot, and while Intel CPU’s can get to 90C before really wanting to throttle, Nvidia GPU’s tend to slow down, per Gamers Nexus, for every extra 5C in the case. So keeping a case cool with airflow improves your performance. The design of the case as well doesn’t leave many options to add fans. Though they did include a Water cooling AIO Header so you can improve your CPU Cooling. Ideally I’d like more intake. Honestly as nice as the case look I may just find something like a Fractal Meshify or some other airflow case and move the parts to get the max out of them.
Use
Note, I don’t know what HP installed by default since I wiped the drive and loaded Windows 10 1903 that was just released, so I can’t say if they pre-installed anything like McAfee which makes the PC perform sub optimally. Installing Windows though was fast on the NVME drive and once I got Steam/GOG installed and a few games moved over I was happy with the performance, though after a longer session I noticed my GPU max boost clock dropping and I was losing frames. To deal with it in the interim I removed the side panel and pointed a fan at it (I know dust) and that allowed the gaming to continue at the higher clocks I saw when I first started my game.
Overall, I love the HW it has great potential and a decent upgrade path, but the lack of airflow limits this hardware from reaching true battle station and lives in the middle of the road. The parts are good with a nice forward upgrade path and if you are daring swapping the case to something with more airflow, taking off the sides or adding some fans may make it reach higher then the 3 stars I gave it. Hopefully going forward HP will focus not only the look but allowing the case to breath so the gaming can go all the time.

Excelleng Cooling in a Laptop
on June 14, 2019
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
Overall Impressions:
This is an excellent mid-tier gaming/workstation laptop. It has not only a solid CPU and an excellent graphics card for the form factor, but it has a top-notch cooling solution to keep the devices operating temperature in spec and from throttling. The only two bad things I have to say (and honestly, they aren’t all that bad) is that it comes with only a single stick of RAM and the C: drive is a bit too small.
While the total RAM of the system is 8 GB (Which is at the very low end of gaming) the main issue is it is a single stick. Depending on your application that could reduce your overall system performance by 8%-10%. Why do I still recommend this laptop, because an extra stick of 8GB RAM right now is cheap, and an easy upgrade to make. Additionally, that performance hit you won’t notice unless you are testing before and after, and it depends on the game/application. Some won’t be impacted others will. My recommendation is as soon as it is feasible add another stick of RAM to make the system have 16GB not only will you enjoy the extra performance, but your games will thank you too. The 120GB Boot drive while “big” enough can fill up fast in this day and age, so I wish it came with at least a 250GB or a 512GB. Again, it just means you must manage your space and usage and make sure to use the 1TB HDD to keep from filling up the drive. In the grand scheme of Laptops, these are not big problems and easy to solve/work around for the cooling and otherwise great experience you get with the device out of the box I think it is worth it.
Hardware:
Overall this is a nice design for Acer. While not bleeding edge premium, the case is still nice and sturdy feeling, while having plenty of venting for cooling. In a gaming laptop, where every 5C of temperature increase can slow your Nvidia GPU down, this is a must to keep peek performance. Additionally, they have two NVME slots and a standard laptop HDD (2.5 drive). This means if you wanted you could upgrade the storage in the device to 2 very fast SSD, and one slower larger SSD. This is not something I’ve seen a lot of yet, so being able to have storage is a total win. While it only comes with one RAM Stick, its easily upgradeable. While not as good as the days gone when they used to leave RAM “Windows” to make changing easy, Acer didn’t make it hard. It was a few screws on the bottom and whole panel came off in one piece making it easy to see the insides and take a picture, as well as upgrade the RAM (I had some spare) to have two sticks and 16GB. The screen looks fine to me, smooth and IPS for great all-around viewing angle. The video card is a Nvidia 1650 with 4GB of dedicated RAM, giving good gaming at medium/high settings depending on the framerate you want.
It has USB-C and 3 regular USB ports (two 3.0 and one 2.0) as well as an HDMI port to make it easy to hook up to your TV.
And as I said before awesome cooling. They have some nice heat pipes and if you don’t mind the noise fans that will work to keep the laptop cool for long gaming sessions. This is the part that got me interested in the laptop. Someone took the time to make sure they could cool the laptop and didn’t make it all that bulky either. A nice Double win.
Setup
Very easy, unbox, plug in and turn on. Microsoft walks you through the setup, with Cortana now speaking to you naturally. Therefore, getting into Windows 10 is easy. Acer didn’t overload this machine with a bunch of junk. Only app I uninstalled was the Symantec Anti-virus, if Windows Defender is a good enough AV Solution for Corporate Microsoft, then its fine for my home PC, with the added benefit of being free. Otherwise nothing extra that I saw, which is great. That meant I could get up and working with the laptop that much faster.
Usage
While I don’t have any gaming numbers, I did happen to run the Heaven benchmark on the laptop on battery, and on high settings averaged around 47 fps with my run. Keep in mind I was on battery so I expect on AC where the PC will go more for performance to see a bump in that number. What impressed me the most was that the 1650 was reported clocked at a frequency of 2100 and kept it solid the whole time. I haven’t added MSI afterburner to confirm, but if correct it would explain for the performance, which was very nice. Playing my normal games like Hitman 2, on Medium I had no problems that I saw. It was able to run the game without problem. While this isn’t a substitute for my gaming desktop, it is a good on the go machine that I can use to cover that itch.
Again, I’m very happy with the laptop. Its performance for the package is impressive. I’m happy and if this is your budge and you don’t mind gaming at 1080p 30-60fps (depending on how your tune the graphics on current AAA) games this is a good device to evaluate. I think it is ideal and covers my needs, and I’m happy with the cooling solution they implemented, knowing this should cover my mobile needs for the next few years. Happy gaming.

Love these Headphones

Overall these are impressive headphones for gaming. Hooked up to the computer with no issues and I was off gaming. They sound great for gaming. Playing the Division 2, I felt like I was an agent in DC and the fact these come with a USB Sound Card (the mixer) is also handy, esp. if your sound card isn't up to snuff.
Overall this is a simple presentation with the App (Windows 10 Store app for me) is simple and allows for adjustment of the 4 presets to dial in the sound the way you like it for different content from Games to Movies. The Headphones were comfortable and you can mod them to go from closed back to a more open back sound stage which is a nice change of pace.
Again the sound of crisp and with the included code for Windows 10/Xbox for 2 years of Dolby Atmos sound is a nice touch to really enhance the game play.
The mic can go left or right side (again a nice touch since I could position it the way I liked it and it picked up sound great. There are a number of streaming options to allow you to adjust voice/game play so if you do stream this can help you get the right sound and it will take an optical In cable(mostly for XBOX Gaming) will work on PC, but I found the USB Worked better. It was nice to see the cable included too.
The only downside for XBOX (Couch) gaming is the fact this device is wired. The cords are long, but if you sit a distance from your TV just note it is cabled, if you want to use the Amp/Mixer. Otherwise I'm sure the headphones will plug directly into a controller, but you lose a bit I'm sure in the sound.
Honestly though even trailing wires the sound was vibrant and alive and if I got this for XBOX gaming I'd deal with cables on my floor to enjoy the glorious soundstage.
Astro really did but everything into this, as even the packaging was well thought out and looked great. The fact they took the time on the box shows the thought they put completely into the whole product.
I am very happy with these and the sound and look forward to many hours gaming with them and enjoying being immersed in my game.

Just what I was looking for
on June 2, 2019
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
TLDR: This is a great camera/light combo that works well, and I recommend it if you need a flood light with a siren, motion detector and camera.
**Setup**
Setup is straight forward, and the directions are clear and simple to follow. They recommend you confirm your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal is strong enough before installation using your phone. Not this works on only the 2.4GHz and your phone may prefer a 5GHz signal as it is faster from your access point, so make sure you are testing the 2.4 band and not the 5GHz when you use a device. For me it was simple since the 2.4GHz band at my house is a different name for IoT devices and was strong enough. Next, actual installation. If you are replacing a standard flood light, you may not have a junction box to place the camera onto. I was one of these people and had to make a quick trip to my favorite home improvement store. Lucky the Junction boxes are a standard size, so purchase of the right size was easy, since there was only one size. Once that was mounted above my garage, attaching the camera (make sure to shut the power off) was as easy as wrapping the wires around each other and place on the wire nuts. Screw it in and there you go, the camera/motion light is ready to go. I’m horrible with these things and the fact it was so easy, made me feel like a home improvement god. Seriously, installation isn’t a huge deal.
Once the light is powered back on, it should be blinking blue meaning set me up. With my Android phone it was harder than it should be, but that is an Android 9.0 issue. Since you must connect directly to the light over wi-fi to set it up, and the light obviously doesn’t have Internet access. What took me longer then I care to admit, is once I got the connection to the camera, there is a pop up on the phone saying this connection doesn’t have internet and you must Tap to accept the connect. Once I did that setup was easy, input my Wi-Fi password for my network and it was all associated with my account and good to go. If it wasn’t for my phone making this harder then it needed to be, setup would have been under 5 minutes. With this minor Android annoyance, it took me 15. So straight forward.
**Usage**
To use the light, you must use their Apple/Android App. Once you get used to the app, its straightforward and easy to use and setup. It was also nice they have documentation for the application, and I had to use it, since I didn’t quite get how it was setup or the icons. It didn’t gel with me. However, the documentation allowed me to figure out everything. The app is fairly polished, however the one piece that is missing from the app is the ability to setup a schedule. Having to open the application every time I want to change from Home/Away/Night is just more work than is needed, and some simple geo-fencing/scheduling options would be nice. In the end I decided to set the light to night mode, since it turns the light on when it detects motion and leave it on that setting the whole time, even if I get a notification on my phone for things like me leaving the house for work etc. This means the light will at least turn on when I drive up at night, which is a nice change from when I’d forget to set it before leaving the house.
The camera coverage is great, from my garage I have the whole driveway front entrance covered as well as a bit of the street, so it is a win and I can see anyone coming. The Microphone picks up sounds very well from camera. I haven’t tried speaking out it, but the siren it has is nice and loud. I’m happy with that. Since it is an LED light it should last good amount of time, but since the bulbs are attached/part of the light and not replaceable from what I can see, I am hopeful they will last a good number of years. Chances are, the cloud service the camera uses to store/send video will be shut off before the lights die, at least that is my expectation. The motion detection seems to be good, even on low to pick up people coming up the drive/camera. Obviously you will want to play with the settings and see what works best for you.
The light itself have adjustable brightness which is nice. At 35% it is more then bright enough to cover my driveway and provide a good picture, though even with the lights off the camera seems to work fine.
Supposedly they have Alexa/Google integration which would give me the ability if I had one of those always listening, listeners to I guess turn the lights on/off saving the need for the app. But I don’t have one, so I wasn’t able to test. Hopefully in the future they expose a website like Arlo does to view the video’s and download as required. Downloading to the phone to copy to my PC isn’t the most fun.
**Final Thoughts**
Overall as a light/camera to cover the front of my house and keep an eye on the driveway and watch the deer use it as a highway is great and I’m happy with how simple this camera was to setup/install and get working. It’s a nice standalone system that doesn’t require much beyond an Apple/Android device and Wi-Fi. The app works and they provide two days of free cloud storage of the video’s and allow you to download. If you need more, you can upgrade it seems for a moderate fee and get 7 days of videos. I’m very happy with the device as I can now watch my house, see when my kids come home and leave and know where approximately the FedEx/UPS guys leave my packages, instead of play, lets guess where they might have hid it. If you need motion activated lights with Camera and siren to go into a permanent setup, then this system is great and works well. I have no complaints and with a few app tweaks for scheduling and geo-fencing to adjust the camera, think this would be the perfect camera for anyone.

Nice Portable Drive
on May 13, 2019
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
This is a great portable drive, esp. if you aren't as savvy about encryption (a must for portable drives) or backup.
I use Windows 10 Pro, so all the features Seagate includes are available, but to use them you have know about them, and how to configure them. Seagate to there credit added a nice simple toolkit that handles the encryption of the drive, mirroring/backups etc with minimal fuss at setup. It was nice to see a polished bit of software for the drive. I didn't have any issues, only issue I could see is you have to make sure that you use there software to handle the unlocking of the drive. Now it is included on the drive, so that shouldn't be a problem, just note that if you are encrypting the drive and decide to move it to a different PC, you'll have to use there tool to unlock.
The drive it self works as I would expect a 1TB HDD to work. On USB 3.0 I got sustained copy speeds of around 93MB/s a second which I find more then great for drives of this nature.
Overall I had no problems and was happy with a well designed and coded software that was easy to use. If you need a drive to help you backup your data that is portable, this is a good drive. It works well in the week that I have had it and expect a long life out of it.

Just use the Orbi app to get started with better WiFi, everywhere in minutes.

If you still have to have Internet service what do I need this thing for I already have a router

Well the two I can think of are: 1. If you need better/stronger wifi coverage throughout your house or 2. if you have newer devices that can use the AC wireless settings. With the Mu-Mimo, even if your devices don't support it, testing has shown that your over all wireless throughput will be better as the router can share the connection better with all devices.
