Nice wire free ear Buds
on May 27, 2018

I got these the other day and while I normally prefer over the ear head phones as ear buds just don't seem to sit well, these Sony Ear Buds do. They feel secure in my ear, I like the silicon hook feels secure in my ears. Now I'm not as active as some so I can't say for certain if you go on a vigorous run these won't fall out, but working in my garden and going for a walk with these at a moderate pace they didn't shake loose and felt comfortable the whole time. For such small devices the battery life is nice. Around three hours, and when you put the headphones in the case it will recharge it. I believe up to three additional times. It is not a quick charge, took around an hour or so for me it seemed, but its nice because I don't have to find a cord and plug it into the headphones, just the case and the case looks to provide easy carrying in workbag.
Noise cancelling was fairly good, esp. if you consider the size of the headphones. Not as good as my over ear Sony headphones, but good enough for the office to take care of the whitenoise which is what I'd use them for and the three hour charge is good enough to get me through my day.
The sound is good enough for me. I'm not a audiophile in the least, the music/podcasts/audiobooks I listen are clear and sound more then nice when I was using the earbuds. There is an app for the headphones which allow you to tune the sound, but honestly out of the box sounded fine. I'm sure other people who like more or less bass or other things can use the app to find a good sound profile to there liking.
Overall these are a nice pair of ear buds, esp. if you are looking for something light to stay securely in your ear. I like these. Only thing I didn't test is how they work as a microphone for calls. Honestly I tend not to use headphone for this anyway. They have a nice look and Sony's sound with Noise cancelling in a small package that is easy to carry around and charge. If you are looking for a pair headphones in this form factor, I don't think you can go wrong.

Overall these aren't a bad pair of headphones, just not great. They are light and have enough battery to carry you through a few work outs with the ability to bend the headphones in a bit to stay on if you tend to bounce around while exercising.
It does have one feature which isn't bad, the Runsafe LED light that will produce a glow from an LED light on the neckband. I'm sure it does help but means you have to keep this outside of any collar and hair to get the full effect. Not sure if they are bright enough to really make a difference seemed a bit dim when I tested at Twilight to do a lot of good, but anything is better then nothing.
The sound was what I expected from JBL, it was good, just didn't blow me away compared to others, but didn't sound horrible either.
What I don't like is the fact they give you a short charging cable. That's fine if I plug in on a desk, but if I want to hand on the door near my keys so I have them for my twilight walks, not handy at all and wish all manufacturers would include longer cables and not try to skimp.
Overall a decent design for sweatproof headphones. A couple of neat eyes likes LED lights to help you stay safe and bendable neck adjustment, with a decent battery (easy to carry for a few days of walking) and light. If those few items above seem what you are looking for then these are the headphones for you. For a teen athlete I think these would be perfect or if you want something to help keep you safe on the side of the road at dusk, again have a look.

Great Mouse if a bit on the Light Side
on April 18, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
This is a great mouse that can work cabled, wireless via its own dongle or Bluetooth giving it a lot of versatility. My only gripe is it is a bit on the light side compared to my Corsair M65. This feeling a lot lighter then the M65 I tend to lift it from my desk, however the senor still picks up a great signal as I do it.
Using this mouse, besides the weight, feels great in my hand. The fact that it has three savable profiles to the mouse, for lighting and DPI is awesome. It means I don't need the to run the CUE software (which has gotten a lot better) to manage the color, DPI etc. I can just switch saved profiles.
The USB cable is also great, not your usual USB, but braided like there normal mouse cables, just detachable and I enjoy the fact that USB plug on the mouse is designed in such a way that it will only plug in one way. YAY no more dark fumbling. Using the mouse pluggd in or wireless I didn't notice a difference in the game play. I was still as bad as I normally am. But I missed with the accuray in all three modes, Bluetooth, Wireless Dongle and Cable.
This is a great little mouse, esp. if you like them on the lighter side. I have large hands, but it fits mine fine with no issues and I had no discomfort in use. Battery will last good while, Corsair rates it for 24 hours, I haven't had a chance to play that long, but its still charged for me. If you need a mouse and want wired and wireless, with an option for Bluetooth for your laptop on the go, you won't go wrong with this one.

Excellent Mic
on April 18, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
The short of this is, if you need a MIC for a Boom or on your desk for streaming/podcasting or just chatting this is a great MIC. My family is loving it.
Setup:
For me the small details can show how great a product is overall and in the packaging I thought Turtle Beach did a wonderful job. Not only is each piece indvidually wrapped, but the parts where labeled with stickers to make assembly easy. Now this is not a difficult device to put together, but something small like that makes all the difference and I think says alot about how they feel about there product. Once all the pieces are out and the MIC assembled (very easy even without the directions) setup for a computer or XBOX (don't have a PS4) was easy. Plug it in and ensure the switch on the back is turned to PC/XBOX. Easy. No problems, nothing extra to download. Turtle Beach though does have a program to update and adjust the MIC on the PC, so I installed that. Very easy to install, only odd thing, but the program tells you, for it to see the MIC to update firmware etc, when plugged to the PC it needs to be set to XBOX Mode and drivers downloaded. Even that was more scratching my head then an issue and it did everything once it detected this.
USE:
This is a USB MIC. So you need an open USB port on your PC/XBOX/PS4. Luckily the XBOX One S has one right in the front, so easy access. I did like the fact the USB Cord included is long. Long enough to plug into my XBOX by the TV, and still allow me to sit a good distance away from the TV. If your using it with you PC it means if you have to use a USB port in the back no issues and should have plenty of slack to route it.
Using was not an issue. My kids wanted to "stream" so I got Mixer working and it saw the MIC with no issues and they went to town playing there games for Grandma watching across the country. I used to play a few online FPS's with friends and it was nice to not have a Boom around my mouth and see at a glance if I was on a hot mic or not. Then I used it for a few calls I had and again no said anything about voice quaility, which to me, means it works great. It has a few modes too to adjust the sound and how it picks up and easy to tune based on the room and situation you are in, since at a glance the color on the front lets you know what mode your in. Again I had no issues with the use and I was loud and clear on the other side.
Possible Downsides:
If you want to have your headphones to let you listen to your voice that you are sending they better have a 3.5mm jack (that seems to be going away). Not a problem for me for me, but for some who want to go wireless note that won't work with this to hear what you sound like via the MIC.
Only other issue is it rather large as you would expect for a MIC like this, so make sure you have real estate on your desk. It does have a nice heavy base, but not too heavy, really just right for me, so it keeps it from sliding.
Again if you need a MIC for streaming etc. and have the space or a Boom this works great and couldn't be happier.

Get that Party Started

The Sony speaker overall is a great looking and to me at least great sounding product. This thing looks slick and even the lights are a nice touch.
This will be a great Summer BBQ speaker with IPX67 water resistance its durable enough to travel and if you add the Android App to help tune the speaker and add some fun additions you got a winner. Its just a perfect outdoor lets enjoy the night type of device.
I also love that this speaker with a 24 hour battery (depending on usage and lighting effects) can also charge your phone so it can double as a backup battery, which is nice in a pinch.
Music plays great and like I said sounds good. It is also nice to be able to change the DSP setting from heavy Bass to Live Music with a push of a button. Since something the music is less bass and to adjust that a push of a button is a wonderful feature.
I know I'm gushing, but this is a truly nice looking speaker that also sounds great, something I don't mind displaying while it beats the tunes out. It works and works well. Its everything I would want in a portable speaker and think Sony did a great job with this one.
Additonally they include a charger, though if you forget it at home a standard micro-USB cable can also be used with no issues.
Sony has a nice speaker and if you want something to be able to display at your BBQ and keep the party going or get it started this may be just what you are looking for.

Comfy Headphones with good Noise Cancelling
on March 24, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
Over all these are a very comfortable pair of headphones that have good Active Noise Cancelling in an easy to use package. Unlike some of the higher end headphones this pair includes on device easy to find buttons to check battery, turn ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) on and off and a easy, pause play skip.
The setup of the headphones is easy. Paired quickly with my phone and was off to the races listening.
The nice thing with these headphones, and a nice trend to see is that it has a long battery life. Sony claims 35 hours, and while I haven't been able to run my headphones that long, the day I spent using these when I got them didn't take a dent in the battery it appeared. Also these headphones can be quick charged. 10 minutes to get an hour of life, so I like that feature.
Usage of the Headphones was easy. The buttons were easy to find and use. It was a nice change from other headphones, so pausing the music or adjusting the volume of the music was easy. To me the headphones sounded great. Music was clear and the background noise muted very well by the set. Wearing them with glasses for the day was easy. They are padded and felt great. Didn't realize I was them even after all day of use.
The only downside to these headphones are
1. No carrying case. Would have been nice to get one included so I could throw them into my bag without worry
2. The included USB cable for charging was short. Would have liked a longer cable to make choosing a charing spot easier.
Overall I like these headphones alot and they have a spot in my rotation if for no other reason you can go almost a whole week without worrying about charging and enjoy your music with the sound quaility I expect from Sony.

Nicest BT Speaker I've Owned
on March 13, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne

This Sony speaker not only sounds great, projecting the sound and producing clear audio that makes listening a pleasure, but its one of the nicest looking Bluetooth speakers I've ever owned. This thing looks slick and even the lights are a nice touch.
With IPX67 water resistance its durable enough to travel and if you add the Android App to help tune the speaker and add some fun additions you got a winner.
I also love that this speaker with a 24 hour battery (depending on usage and lighting effects) can also charge your phone so it can double as a backup battery to keep the party going.
I've been using it as my main computer speakers and am very happy with it. Music plays great and like I said sounds good. I know I'm gushing, but this is a truly nice looking speaker that also sounds great, something I don't mind displaying while it beats the tunes out. I've been using it for the last week and am very happy with it. It works and works well. Its everything I would want in a portable speaker and think Sony did a great job with this one.
The app is a nice touch, though since I use this with a computer I wish they'd release a computer app too so I didn't have to grab my phone to adjust the bass and such, but its a minor complaint for such a great speaker.

Nice Range Extender
on March 11, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
My review is from the point of running a Max-Stream Linksys Router. I can't say how this will perform using something that isn't from Linksys's Max Stream family. I'm sure it will perform well I just didn't test that configuration.
This is a nice extender with a dedicated backhaul channel to ensure it can extend your network and it has 4 dedicated NIC ports. Additionally if you don't need a wireless extender but want a wired extender this can be used as that as well and all three Channels 2.4Ghz and the two 5Ghz channels will serve the devices in that mode. It has a nice set of antennae that allow it serve strong signals. This is a nice solid unit all around that is fairly simple.
**********
Setup: This is the only place I had trouble. Either I was impatient and connected to the router too soon from plugging in or the Firmware that shipped on device needed to auto update. Anyway when I first set it up I connected my phone via WPS. No issues there. Worked nicely to get on the extender, but the automatic setup wizard for whatever reason didn't run. It seemed to work fine, but I wasn't happy with that. So I reset the device and started over. This time it worked much better. WPS attached me to extender and the wizard ran without an issue. It detected that I was running a Max Stream router walked me through the seamless wireless network setup with no issues. It does have a spot finder to help you make sure you are not too far or two close, however I was replacing a RE7000 so I already knew the spot it was going in was fine, though when I setup the extender it said I was too close. Later when I checked via the web interface it said I was just right. I think its a decent guide but testing yourself to ensure you are covering what you want to cover is just as important.
I will say the interface is nice that they went with a simple Web interface and not some silly app setup. Its nice to be able to check performance etc. via a web and not have to look around for my phone.
************
Useage: Once connected this is a setup and forget kind of device. As you wander the house it should switch (assuming you are using a Max Stream router like me) between which ever Access Point has the strongest signal. I do notice at least on my Pixel XL as I was testing it will drop wireless for a second while it switches. I only happened to notice because I was watching my phone like a hawk. But it quickly got back on wireless and if I wasn't watching the phone I doubt I would have noticed or seen any impact because of it.
Coverage isn't an issue. I was using a Linksys RE7000 before to cover the dead spots in my home. This provides the same coverage. I don't have a qualitative way of measuring, so I can't say this is x% better. I do think it is better overall, at least when I am running a few devices over the extender and the addition of the extra NIC ports are handy as I could repurpose a network switch I was running for something else. So that is a win for me.
**************
Summary:
This is a nice upgrade to the RE7000 which I was using before. It is bigger but I'll take the larger footprint for the improved antennae and extra Nic ports. It does the job and has the flexability to extend your wired network without the need for Router or extend your wireless network to improve your coverage. If you need to extend your network and you have a Max Stream router then I would seriously look at this device.

Great looking and sounding Headphonea
on March 1, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne

The HD1 Wireless are some of best looking Wireless Headphones I've had.
They seem to eschew the standard black plastic look of others and go for a more warmer and old school aesthetic and I appreciate it. It’s nice to have a pair of headphones that will stand out. Of course one doesn't get the headphone for looks, its performance that matter and let’s get into that. Overall on looks 5/5 for being distinctive compared to other headphones.
I find the HD1 even with glasses on to be comfortable to wear, but even with the comfort, my ears still get a bit hot. Though even wearing these for long periods in the office, the heat of my ears are a bit less than other pairs I've worn. I do appreciate they stay on the head and once you get it set you don't really feel it, except for warmer than normal ears. Overall I'd give comfort a 4.5/5
Sound - Now this is the hard part. The Active Noise Cancelling works and works well. Seems to be on par with my QC35II headphones. However, unlike other headphones, this doesn't have an App to adjust "how" much ANC, so you have to depend on headphones adjusting to wind and other things. That said, while its nice not having an App to manage these (I have too many of those on my phones), I worry how will the firmware get updated. However this is far from the sound. The ANC works well, but seems to really shine when you have sound coming from the headphone. The sound is fairly rich and warm. I enjoy it and when I tested playing some games on my PC, I was able to pick up some sounds I've missed with other headphones. I like the sound. Are these the best sounding. Can't say. They seem warmer and I like the sound of music and voice. Seems clear and all encompassing. I enjoy it and they don't sound bad. 5/5. However, I'd recommend going to the store and trying them to best determine if the default sound profile is ideal for you. For me it is, but without an App to adjust the profile you either will like it or depend on 3rd party apps to get the profile you want.
Misc. As I stated earlier there is no app that say you should install. Every pair from Sony and Bose depend on the app. To control the sound, ANC profile and to update firmware. While it is nice not to have another app, I do worry how the firmware will be updated if either a problem or improvement. That is a ding compared to others. Maybe they have an app or a way to update firmware but the directions didn't cover it, either in the packaging or from the website. This most likely isn't a concern, but I thought I'd mention it. I did also like the case the headphones came in. It’s a soft/hard case seems sturdy enough to be placed in my bag, but then they give an additional bag to put the headphones in to keep them getting tangled with the cables. It is nice to see these headphones come with a 3.5mm cable if you don't have a Bluetooth device. It’s a nice touch and I appreciate. Charging is the standard micro-usb. Again be nice if USB-C only because I don't have to look at the cable and figure which way to insert the cable.
Last question is battery life. It is impressive. From a full charge even after 4 hours of usage I still have 90% charge. I'm sure various things will change such as distance and volume etc. But I believe it will get the full rated life, and if nothing can be used over the course of a few days unless you are going 24/7. So it should cover a long flight, or a few days in the office. I'm happy with that.
Overall I find these to be a great pair of headphones. They look different and sound good for me. Battery life is good and pairs easily with devices either via Bluetooth or NFC. If you need some Bluetooth headphones I'd give these a listen I think you'd be happy with the result.

If you want a laptop that turns on connects quickly to the internet and ties into your Google account and don't want to spend a lot of money this isn't a bad purchase.
Overall, as a device it charged quickly and I was able to connect to my network without any issues, tie into my Google account and get going fairly quickly. Under 5 minutes all told. What I could do with the computer and change not a lot. It is a Chromebook. I only considered this because my children's school district use them in class and all their homework is done via Google Classroom or something like that. Having a Chromebook means something simple they can login with their school accounts to complete projects on the same system they use in school.
The fact the battery lasts for around 12 hours depending on usage is handy. Means they can move around and use it.
The 15" screen is nice and clear. The resolution isn't HD, but for the price it was not expected. If you need a device that is more than a tablet to connect to the Google infrastructure for school or something check and easy to connect to the Internet for web applications this is a fine device.
It was also nice to see the device had two speakers on the front, allowing for clear listening of audio.
My major complaint is that the keyboard is a bit off to my ability to type. It feels fine, but I kept hitting Cap Locks and not the A key because it seemed a bit off. Also the Power Button being part of the keyboard doesn't seem to provide feedback that hey you pushed me and I'm turning on. Took me a second to find the front LED to notice yes it is booting up.
Though for a cheap device, it does have some nice features:
HDMI out, so can be connected to a TV to do HD content.
It has Bluetooth 4.2 and 4GB of Ram.
Considering this OS is mostly all "web" based and like to save things in the google cloud the lack of local storage isn't too band and can be expanded with a SD Card as needed.
The Celeron processor was snappy, though that may have been helped by the 4GB Of RAM too. But I didn't find it lagging as I was clicking around.
The touchpad is the normal large click type. I've never been a fan, but it works well and is responsive. It does have AC Wireless, again that is nice having more current technology to get the best wireless speeds you can, assuming your router can match.
Again this is a solid device if you need a Chromebook, or something a bit larger/easier to type on then a tablet and don't mind being in the Google Eco-System. The battery life does make it handy if you want to use it around the house during the day without being tethered to a plug. I think Acer built a solid device that should last a few years.

If you still have to have Internet service what do I need this thing for I already have a router

Well the two I can think of are: 1. If you need better/stronger wifi coverage throughout your house or 2. if you have newer devices that can use the AC wireless settings. With the Mu-Mimo, even if your devices don't support it, testing has shown that your over all wireless throughput will be better as the router can share the connection better with all devices.
