Comfy Headphones with good Noise Cancelling
on March 24, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
Over all these are a very comfortable pair of headphones that have good Active Noise Cancelling in an easy to use package. Unlike some of the higher end headphones this pair includes on device easy to find buttons to check battery, turn ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) on and off and a easy, pause play skip.
The setup of the headphones is easy. Paired quickly with my phone and was off to the races listening.
The nice thing with these headphones, and a nice trend to see is that it has a long battery life. Sony claims 35 hours, and while I haven't been able to run my headphones that long, the day I spent using these when I got them didn't take a dent in the battery it appeared. Also these headphones can be quick charged. 10 minutes to get an hour of life, so I like that feature.
Usage of the Headphones was easy. The buttons were easy to find and use. It was a nice change from other headphones, so pausing the music or adjusting the volume of the music was easy. To me the headphones sounded great. Music was clear and the background noise muted very well by the set. Wearing them with glasses for the day was easy. They are padded and felt great. Didn't realize I was them even after all day of use.
The only downside to these headphones are
1. No carrying case. Would have been nice to get one included so I could throw them into my bag without worry
2. The included USB cable for charging was short. Would have liked a longer cable to make choosing a charing spot easier.
Overall I like these headphones alot and they have a spot in my rotation if for no other reason you can go almost a whole week without worrying about charging and enjoy your music with the sound quaility I expect from Sony.

Nicest BT Speaker I've Owned
on March 13, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
This Sony speaker not only sounds great, projecting the sound and producing clear audio that makes listening a pleasure, but its one of the nicest looking Bluetooth speakers I've ever owned. This thing looks slick and even the lights are a nice touch.
With IPX67 water resistance its durable enough to travel and if you add the Android App to help tune the speaker and add some fun additions you got a winner.
I also love that this speaker with a 24 hour battery (depending on usage and lighting effects) can also charge your phone so it can double as a backup battery to keep the party going.
I've been using it as my main computer speakers and am very happy with it. Music plays great and like I said sounds good. I know I'm gushing, but this is a truly nice looking speaker that also sounds great, something I don't mind displaying while it beats the tunes out. I've been using it for the last week and am very happy with it. It works and works well. Its everything I would want in a portable speaker and think Sony did a great job with this one.
The app is a nice touch, though since I use this with a computer I wish they'd release a computer app too so I didn't have to grab my phone to adjust the bass and such, but its a minor complaint for such a great speaker.

Nice Range Extender
on March 11, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
My review is from the point of running a Max-Stream Linksys Router. I can't say how this will perform using something that isn't from Linksys's Max Stream family. I'm sure it will perform well I just didn't test that configuration.
This is a nice extender with a dedicated backhaul channel to ensure it can extend your network and it has 4 dedicated NIC ports. Additionally if you don't need a wireless extender but want a wired extender this can be used as that as well and all three Channels 2.4Ghz and the two 5Ghz channels will serve the devices in that mode. It has a nice set of antennae that allow it serve strong signals. This is a nice solid unit all around that is fairly simple.
**********
Setup: This is the only place I had trouble. Either I was impatient and connected to the router too soon from plugging in or the Firmware that shipped on device needed to auto update. Anyway when I first set it up I connected my phone via WPS. No issues there. Worked nicely to get on the extender, but the automatic setup wizard for whatever reason didn't run. It seemed to work fine, but I wasn't happy with that. So I reset the device and started over. This time it worked much better. WPS attached me to extender and the wizard ran without an issue. It detected that I was running a Max Stream router walked me through the seamless wireless network setup with no issues. It does have a spot finder to help you make sure you are not too far or two close, however I was replacing a RE7000 so I already knew the spot it was going in was fine, though when I setup the extender it said I was too close. Later when I checked via the web interface it said I was just right. I think its a decent guide but testing yourself to ensure you are covering what you want to cover is just as important.
I will say the interface is nice that they went with a simple Web interface and not some silly app setup. Its nice to be able to check performance etc. via a web and not have to look around for my phone.
************
Useage: Once connected this is a setup and forget kind of device. As you wander the house it should switch (assuming you are using a Max Stream router like me) between which ever Access Point has the strongest signal. I do notice at least on my Pixel XL as I was testing it will drop wireless for a second while it switches. I only happened to notice because I was watching my phone like a hawk. But it quickly got back on wireless and if I wasn't watching the phone I doubt I would have noticed or seen any impact because of it.
Coverage isn't an issue. I was using a Linksys RE7000 before to cover the dead spots in my home. This provides the same coverage. I don't have a qualitative way of measuring, so I can't say this is x% better. I do think it is better overall, at least when I am running a few devices over the extender and the addition of the extra NIC ports are handy as I could repurpose a network switch I was running for something else. So that is a win for me.
**************
Summary:
This is a nice upgrade to the RE7000 which I was using before. It is bigger but I'll take the larger footprint for the improved antennae and extra Nic ports. It does the job and has the flexability to extend your wired network without the need for Router or extend your wireless network to improve your coverage. If you need to extend your network and you have a Max Stream router then I would seriously look at this device.

Great looking and sounding Headphonea
on March 1, 2018

The HD1 Wireless are some of best looking Wireless Headphones I've had.
They seem to eschew the standard black plastic look of others and go for a more warmer and old school aesthetic and I appreciate it. It’s nice to have a pair of headphones that will stand out. Of course one doesn't get the headphone for looks, its performance that matter and let’s get into that. Overall on looks 5/5 for being distinctive compared to other headphones.
I find the HD1 even with glasses on to be comfortable to wear, but even with the comfort, my ears still get a bit hot. Though even wearing these for long periods in the office, the heat of my ears are a bit less than other pairs I've worn. I do appreciate they stay on the head and once you get it set you don't really feel it, except for warmer than normal ears. Overall I'd give comfort a 4.5/5
Sound - Now this is the hard part. The Active Noise Cancelling works and works well. Seems to be on par with my QC35II headphones. However, unlike other headphones, this doesn't have an App to adjust "how" much ANC, so you have to depend on headphones adjusting to wind and other things. That said, while its nice not having an App to manage these (I have too many of those on my phones), I worry how will the firmware get updated. However this is far from the sound. The ANC works well, but seems to really shine when you have sound coming from the headphone. The sound is fairly rich and warm. I enjoy it and when I tested playing some games on my PC, I was able to pick up some sounds I've missed with other headphones. I like the sound. Are these the best sounding. Can't say. They seem warmer and I like the sound of music and voice. Seems clear and all encompassing. I enjoy it and they don't sound bad. 5/5. However, I'd recommend going to the store and trying them to best determine if the default sound profile is ideal for you. For me it is, but without an App to adjust the profile you either will like it or depend on 3rd party apps to get the profile you want.
Misc. As I stated earlier there is no app that say you should install. Every pair from Sony and Bose depend on the app. To control the sound, ANC profile and to update firmware. While it is nice not to have another app, I do worry how the firmware will be updated if either a problem or improvement. That is a ding compared to others. Maybe they have an app or a way to update firmware but the directions didn't cover it, either in the packaging or from the website. This most likely isn't a concern, but I thought I'd mention it. I did also like the case the headphones came in. It’s a soft/hard case seems sturdy enough to be placed in my bag, but then they give an additional bag to put the headphones in to keep them getting tangled with the cables. It is nice to see these headphones come with a 3.5mm cable if you don't have a Bluetooth device. It’s a nice touch and I appreciate. Charging is the standard micro-usb. Again be nice if USB-C only because I don't have to look at the cable and figure which way to insert the cable.
Last question is battery life. It is impressive. From a full charge even after 4 hours of usage I still have 90% charge. I'm sure various things will change such as distance and volume etc. But I believe it will get the full rated life, and if nothing can be used over the course of a few days unless you are going 24/7. So it should cover a long flight, or a few days in the office. I'm happy with that.
Overall I find these to be a great pair of headphones. They look different and sound good for me. Battery life is good and pairs easily with devices either via Bluetooth or NFC. If you need some Bluetooth headphones I'd give these a listen I think you'd be happy with the result.

If you want a laptop that turns on connects quickly to the internet and ties into your Google account and don't want to spend a lot of money this isn't a bad purchase.
Overall, as a device it charged quickly and I was able to connect to my network without any issues, tie into my Google account and get going fairly quickly. Under 5 minutes all told. What I could do with the computer and change not a lot. It is a Chromebook. I only considered this because my children's school district use them in class and all their homework is done via Google Classroom or something like that. Having a Chromebook means something simple they can login with their school accounts to complete projects on the same system they use in school.
The fact the battery lasts for around 12 hours depending on usage is handy. Means they can move around and use it.
The 15" screen is nice and clear. The resolution isn't HD, but for the price it was not expected. If you need a device that is more than a tablet to connect to the Google infrastructure for school or something check and easy to connect to the Internet for web applications this is a fine device.
It was also nice to see the device had two speakers on the front, allowing for clear listening of audio.
My major complaint is that the keyboard is a bit off to my ability to type. It feels fine, but I kept hitting Cap Locks and not the A key because it seemed a bit off. Also the Power Button being part of the keyboard doesn't seem to provide feedback that hey you pushed me and I'm turning on. Took me a second to find the front LED to notice yes it is booting up.
Though for a cheap device, it does have some nice features:
HDMI out, so can be connected to a TV to do HD content.
It has Bluetooth 4.2 and 4GB of Ram.
Considering this OS is mostly all "web" based and like to save things in the google cloud the lack of local storage isn't too band and can be expanded with a SD Card as needed.
The Celeron processor was snappy, though that may have been helped by the 4GB Of RAM too. But I didn't find it lagging as I was clicking around.
The touchpad is the normal large click type. I've never been a fan, but it works well and is responsive. It does have AC Wireless, again that is nice having more current technology to get the best wireless speeds you can, assuming your router can match.
Again this is a solid device if you need a Chromebook, or something a bit larger/easier to type on then a tablet and don't mind being in the Google Eco-System. The battery life does make it handy if you want to use it around the house during the day without being tethered to a plug. I think Acer built a solid device that should last a few years.

A Great Addtional Layer of Defense
on January 13, 2018
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
I've been using Malwarebytes for years. Not as my main anti-virus engine but as something to catch what my normal anti-virus missed. Now with real-time and additional Enhanced protections this is a great product to add to my computer defense layer. It plays nice with Windows Defender (Windows 10 default Anti-Virus) and adds a second set of eyes to help protect my home PC's.
There is no one piece of software that will keep you safe, but I find Malwarebytes additional protections raises the bar to protect my home PC's.
Now I can't give a complete security overview. I'm not equipped or knowledge enough to rate the product in that manner. I can say though on the two PC's I added it to I didn't notice it. It didn't add performance hit that some other products might. It plays nice with Windows Defender (my default AV program) and hasn't impacted either PC. Overall that's all I can review. Its a simple product to install, lightweight that it doesn't add a lot of overhead and adds an additional layer of defense.
If you are looking for more security this suite will go very well with your default AV protection of choice.

If you BlendTec, They will Come.

I’d heard about this blender before from the “Will It Blend?” folks, and while I was impressed by its power, I honestly thought it was a little gimmicky and didn’t know what it would be like as a blender for actual food. I was surprised to see that the blades were not sharp at all, as they had been for every other blender I’ve owned in the past, although I can certainly see how this would make it safer to clean.
Wow. Power is this blender’s middle name. It is a touch on the loud side, but this motor has got some serious juice! It has absolutely no problem blending to mush fibrous vegetable matter that has been known to kill some of my previous (cheaper) blenders. If you are going to make any smoothies, however, I seriously recommend that you put a bare minimum of 12oz of fluid into the bottom of your blender. Otherwise, you could end up with a cavitation bubble, which both isn’t good for your blender and means that nothing is getting pulled down to the blades.
Cleanup for this blender is advertised as nothing more than adding some water and a single drop of dish soap. While this is good enough for cleaning any water-soluble messes, if you have used anything that is oily, such as avocados, peanut butter, or any oils or butters, these cleanup directions will leave your jug cloudy. Best to get a little soap on a sponge and give it a light wipe-down and rinse. Still, not a labor-intensive endeavor.
There are many recipes on Blendtec’s website. I have made the potato leek soup as well as the butternut squash soup, and both are amazing. The blender does a great job pureeing all the veggies into a nice smooth soup. The recipes are quite tasty as well!
Far from being gimmicky, the Blendtec blender has far exceeded my expectations.

Great Smartish Watch with Long Battery
on December 9, 2017
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
I am not a runner or athlete, so for the questions dealing with how awesome this is for training, I'm not the person to ask. However if you want a watch with a long battery to track activity and map long walks monitor sleep and heartrate and not need to be charged every day this is the watch. Also the nice thing is this has a lot of training modes and one of them is Walking. I don't run anymore, a bit to creaky, but I do take walks and tracking them is a great feature I haven't seen elsewhere.
Setup with the App was simple and all the settings on the watch can be changed via the app or the watch. It was fairly initiative for me to use the watch and setup what I wanted. Its also nice that its waterproof, I really only take it off once every three days or so when the battery looks around 50% to charge. So I'm very happy with it. They do have some customization options for the watch face and the wrist flick to wake it up and light is nice too. I've been very happy with the operation of watch. It is also very nice they have a PC application, so if you aren't near your phone or it dies I can still get the information off.
The app seems fine and I hope in the future they add some more watch faces instead of the default 4, but that is a small gripe, I want more customization. I think Epson is onto something and I look forward to years of use with this watch.
Oh and if you have an Android watch, turning notification on also requires you to give the appliacation access to notifications. They have a link right to it, but I missed it when I setup the watch and had to read the manual. Otherwise I love this watch. I hope Epson keeps at it. This is a great watch.
From a style standpoint it is a large watch face. My wrist is fairly large, but if you have small wrists might look large, but don't let that keep you from this watch.
Only I do wish is that Epson adds an alarm feature that will vibrate when you are in light sleep. Be nice to wake not groggy for a change.
Keep it up Epson. Love this device and it is making me want to take more walks. So YAY. Get this watch.

Great Sounding decent ANC
on December 7, 2017
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
This is a interesting pair of headphones. I never heard of the company Bowers and Wilkins before these headphones. My understanding this is the companies first set of Active Noise Cancelling Headphones and they are a joy to use when I want to seriously listen to music as well as get that slightly different industrial look. They aren't your stand looking cans.
Setup of the headphones was fairly straight forward and they have an App for Android and iOS. There App is basic, allowing you to adjust the ANC, the sensistivity for auto pause (I'll get to this feature in a second), adjust the voice pass through or update the firmware.
No issues as I said getting the app going and getting the headphones recognized, but I at least still had to pair the headphones with the bluetooth on my phone too to use it as an audio source. Idid have a tiny hiccup with the headphones, the next morning I could not get the headphones to turn themselves back on using the power button. Luckily they had included a reset button in the right ear. At first I wondered how to get to the button with a paper clip but reading the online manual I found that the padding around the ears are magnetically attached (I wouldn't have guessed) and was able to take off the padding to reach it. Once I pressed the button it woke right up and I haven't had a problem in the last three days of constant use.
Now these headphones have a wear sensor, it actually detects when you lift them off an ear or take them off and sleeps the headphones until you place them back on your ears. Its a very cool feature, but I did have to use the app to adjust the sensitity for my liking, but since doing that, its great, I take them off Music pauses. I put them back on they wake up and restart the music where it left off. Its actually a great feature and I highly enjoy it, since they sleep the headphones I don't have to turn them off. The battery life has been good, I've been using them for over the course of two days (at least 8 or so hours) and still at 60% power. With full active noise cancelling and walking a distance from my audio source. So great battery.
Wear:
These headphones are some of my heavyiest headphones I own and while they do fit my ears, my ears seem almost too big. I think thats due to the thick padding since, well if you looked at the picture you can see how the insides of the cans look a bit different then most phones. Its not uncomfortable except for making sure my ears get in, once they are in I can wear these headphones for hours with no issue.
The ANC isn't bad. Its not as good as my Bose or Sony pairs. At least to my ears in my office. Those pairs seemed to block more of the white noise out, but the difference is only noticable when your headphones aren't playing music. Once you get music going they are about the same. However what I do notice is when I listen to music I seem to get more of the music through these headphones. I mean really get more of the music making out different instruments, at least in the music I've tried compared to my otherphones. When I want to listen to music these are my goto pairs.
Additionally I recommend registering your headphones on there website, they give you access to their society of sound. They have a number of different albums you can download for free at 24bit lossless, so that was a nice bonus.
The headphones come with a stylish pouch, with pockets to hold the USB-C cable (yeah, no more worrying is this cable the right way) and headphone cable if you can't/don't want to go bluetooth. Its a softside pouch and while these are very solid headphones, I wish it was a hardsided pouch that I could feel better leaving in my bad to be bumped around. However the sound on these headphones make me just carry them because its worth for the sound.
Overall I love these headphones. It has great sound, decent ANC some novel features and looks. I would definitely recommend you give these a try as they seem to be my favorite pair.

Nice to have Flexability
on November 17, 2017
Posted by: OmieOne
from East Stroudsburg, PA
I am very happy overall with this thermostat, and have now upgraded myself into the current Century. It is a vast improvement over my older single set thermostat.
Setup:
Setup for me was fairly painless, and this is coming from someone who isn't DIY enabled in the least. I was lucky though since I was going from Honeywell to Honeywell and I have a more modern Heat Pump that had a C wire. Overall the manual was great and allowed me to understand what I needed to do and kept things simple. Only hard part in the installation was when I docked the unit back. Took a few seconds to come on and boot up. But once it came to life all was well and I'm happy that I was able to do it myself and not screw up. Getting the Unit Online and connected to my network was fairly simple and then getting it setup with the Honeywell Website wasn't bad at all. I appreciate that Honeywell has a Website and an App. Its nice to be able to control the settings and alerts the way I want.
Usage:
Once I got the unit online and schedule set its been fairly hands off. I do like the fact that in the morning/evening I can glance at the unit (since it resides in the master bedroom) and see the weather. It also shows the humidity in the house. Its a new data point I haven't had before and not sure what use I'd make of it, but nice all the same. I have noticed that the unit does tend to make sure the temperature is at the setting scheduled right when the schedule starts. That's nice because I can set it for my usual wake time and not have to guess do I need an extra 10 minutes to get the house warm in the morning. I also enjoy the fact that it will keep the house between a range, handy for when you get into early fall/spring where its cool in the morning hot during the day. Having to switch back and forth was a pain, its nice it will keep the upstairs comfortable. Only real con I have with the unit is the display is always on. Since it is in the master we have a new nightlight. It does dim and since you can change the color of the unit you can select something that suits the room.
I'm very happy with this unit and it seems though out. The schedule you can set has four times, wake, leave, return, sleep. That seems to cover my day and it even has a vacation feature for extra savings when your out. Additionally with the Wi-Fi support I can adjust the temp remotely, or in another room. If you have a thing for Alexa, you can add this to your Alexa skills and change the temp. with your voice, but honestly I like the more set it up and forget it.
If you need to update to something more modern this may be the way to go.

If you still have to have Internet service what do I need this thing for I already have a router

Well the two I can think of are: 1. If you need better/stronger wifi coverage throughout your house or 2. if you have newer devices that can use the AC wireless settings. With the Mu-Mimo, even if your devices don't support it, testing has shown that your over all wireless throughput will be better as the router can share the connection better with all devices.
