Didn't know black could be so black!

To be honest, the most intimidating thing about this Vizio is getting it out of the box and set in place. Having a razor thin bezel is a beautiful thing to look at; but very difficult to move around without having fingers on the glass. This beast weighs in at 70 lbs. and the wife & I were unsure of our ability to move it to our built-in cabinetry. Solution - call a neighbor! If you're planning to wall mount this puppy, that's a 3 person job, so plan ahead.
We did get it safely into place, and began setup. That requires pairing the remote, connecting to your network, and the standard new tv q&a session. The unit then proceeded to download an update, which completed successfully.
We then went through a bit of fine tuning; in addition to the usual choices for picture type, contrast, brightness, etc.; however if you drill down there's a myriad of choice available for the enthusiast. The ambient light sensor worked very well, we were testing it by opening/closing shades, lights on/off, etc.
The picture is exceptional. I have 2 adjacent rooms, basically both family/entertainment rooms, both with tv's. If I stand at the end of one room, I can have eyes on both tv's simultaneously. The other room has a new 60" 4K (I won't mention the brand), and looking at them side by side, the difference is immediately recognizable. Yes, the Vizion has richer colors, but the most notable difference is in the whites, and the blacks are beyond comparison. So glad to finally have a screen that can distinguish between gray and black.
We had noticed there was a significant lip sync problem; going into the audio adjustments, I noticed that the surround sound box was ticked, turned the feature off and all was good. I do have an issue with how the lip sync settings are presented. Think of a left/right balance bar for your stereo. When you adjust the lip sync setting, the bar expands to both the left and the right simultaneously. So am I delaying the audio, or delaying the video? A check of the manual offers no help in this matter. I haven't gotten a sound bar for this unit yet, pretty certain that I'll be choosing a Vizio to insure compatibility, as I've had no end of problems syncing up tv's and soundbars.
Which brings me to another issue - I'm not blaming Vizio for this, it's just the way things are nowadays. I get a 70 lb tv in a gigantic box, which comes strapped to a wooden pallet, and there's no manual inside. Yes, I know there's one built in to the tv, but some of us old school folks like the manual to thumb thru. Then again, will the on screen manual work when the tv doesn't turn on? No! I did the next best thing, downloaded the manual from the Vizio site, and will print out the relevant sections.
One more pet peeve that's common to the industry - the new "simplified" remote. Sorry, I can't get the hang of these things. I'll do what I did for my last tv - picked up a universal remote with all the buttons,
I did download the app, which does have a bit more functionality than the remote - works well.
So no points off for the last two items, it's just the way things are today. But ultimately, it's about the experience of enjoying the product.
p.s. Over the past couple of days, using my side by side view (as pictured below), the definition of blacks and greys on the Vizio is light years ahead of anything else I've seen. Now I can finally enjoy those dimly lit series the networks are so infatuated with - maybe time to review the last season of Game of Thrones!

Fast, more importantly, easy fast

I've fumbled many times trying to set up mesh systems. While I'm not a novice, I'm by no means an expert at networking. When the system starts talking about IP & Mac addresses, my eyes start to glaze over. The Atlas has been a pleasure right from the unboxing. I first downloaded the Linksys app, and connected the first unit to my Fios router. Took about 4-5 minutes to recognize the unit (the app does message you that it will take that long.) The location is at the extreme end of my home.
I then unboxed the second unit, and placed it approximately 35-40 feet away on the lover level. Same process, took about 5 minutes to hook up, and the app reported "location good."
On to the second floor, this unit I located about 30 ft away; midway between the other two units. 5 minutes later, I was in business.
It was then on to hooking up devices which was pretty much painless. 3 TV's, half a dozen laptops/tablets, another half dozen cameras/security, thermostat, etc. The only issue I encountered was difficulty with 2 older off brand security cameras that didn't want to be recognized, I decided it was time to upgrade them to 1080p anyway.
The system's been running 5 days now, and I don't have an issue to report. Performing internet speed test, with my prior mesh I was getting 350mb/s; it's now approaching 500. With my cell, I used to lose contact within 50ft of my house, I can now get in my car, drive up to the corner 200ft away, and still show connection.
The nodes themselves are attractive and at home wherever I placed them. Each has 4 in/out ports for convenience. If I had to nitpick, they are a little light, I would have preferred them to be weighted.
But by far, at least to me, the best feature is the ease of installation. You don't need to be well versed in internet lingo, it just installs itself. If you're someone that experiences problems setting up wifi systems, you owe the Atlas a lookover.

Fast, but lacks the finishing touch

My unboxing experience got off to a bad start. If you look at the uploaded photo of the thumb drive (thumb included, no extra charge) you will see me attempting to close the drive. I couldn't. Thinking I was missing something, I looked for a button that would unlock it. There was none. It's just difficult to move, courtesy of the cheap plastic enclosure. Had to use two hands; one to hold the case, the other to move the slider. One would think if you're going to call your product "Ultra", it might be a nice aluminum case, as are other drives I own. If you're committed to plastic, at least make it work!.
I've shown the drive attached to my brand new Dell XPS, equipped with the latest Thunderbolt C-type ports. Tested it out with some multi-gig multimedia files; on average, about 100 mb/sec, which is below stated, which was certainly under controlled conditions. But, better than any drive I currently own, including some previous model Ultras.
I did about 10 gig in rapid succession, at which point the drive was pretty warm, I was thinking about backing up a PC onto it; not sure how it would react to a 100 gig load at one time. Having a metal case to dissipate heat might make me a bit more comfortable about it.
All in all, it's nice to have this much storage available in a tiny package, but would've preferred they put a "finishing touch" on a somewhat expensive for its class drive.

First rate looks & performance
on July 17, 2021
Posted by: ferrari
from New Jersey, USA
After unboxing this XPS 15, then going back to look at this listing, my first thought is that Dell needs to hire a new advertising department. The stylistic renderings in this listing do this piece of art absolutely no justice. You really need to see it in person. This laptop is stunning! The clean, sleek look of the exterior has the Macbook looking over its shoulder. The interior in Arctic white has a touch & feel like nothing I've seen in a laptop before. The diminutive size belies its heft - its 4.5 lbs of solid construction packed into a .7 inch thick package.
In the performance department, the specs speak for themselves - a powerhouse i7, 1TB solid state drive, 16 gigs of ram, and an Nvidia 3050 to make things look pretty on the OLED infinity screen.
I have my own performance test - my go-to game is Civilization 6, which I've been playing on my Alienware M17. Most of the graphics settings are halfway up, and at that, the M17 is breathing hard & hot. After installing it on the XPS, it automatically set the graphics sliders all the way up; and it handled it like a champ - no fan noise at all, as a matter of fact, the hottest thing was the power supply, not the XPS itself. Very impressed with the thermal handling of this unit under heavy load.
Referencing one of the photos I included, I put the XPS next to my 15" HP Spectre, and you can easily see the efficient use of space the infinity screen allows - same size screen, smaller package. An inch can be a lot of space when you're working on a small desktop. The downside of that is it's taking some adjustment getting used to the key spacing, but that will come in time. I also appreciate the generously sized touchpad.
Referring to another photo re: keyboard lighting, the white light on a white keypad is not a great match. Would appreciate the ability to change color as I can with the Alienware.
The other thing that deserves mention is all the ports are USB-C, Provided in the package is an adapter (pictured) which includes one USB-A and one HDMI port. I would've preferred that this come as a dongle without the cable, even tho it's color matched, it still looks a little cheesy hanging outside this beautiful unit. I'll hit the aftermarket to get something a little more appropriate.
All in all, I was at first put off by the price of this unit, but as I said at the start, you really need to see it in person & kick the tires to see they packed a lot of performance into a solid package with first class looks & feel.

Not exactly as one might expect
on June 21, 2021

from New Jersey, USA
More often than not, when I'm entering my house I'm loaded down with either grocery packages, dogs on a leash, or worse yet, dirty hands from working in the garden, making fumbling for keys a difficult chore. So I was anxious to install the Level Touch to make my life just a little bit easier.
As far as installation, it's pretty much the same as replacing any standard deadbolt. The only difference is that the provided strikeplate has an opening slightly wider than standard to accommodate the circular shaped bolt of the touch. That shouldn't be a problem for most, in my case, the existing strike plate was longer, so the new one wouldn't have had enough solid wood to grab the new screws. What I did was to take my Dremel and slighty round the opening of the strikeplate to match the diameter of the provided one. (see photo). Most of you won't have to do this, it was just particular to my case.
The next step is to download the app, and sync the lockset to your phone. Once downloaded, the app requested a software update to the device which took 2 or 3 minutes and went without incident. I then matched the provided keycards to the lockset, and it was ready to go.
So you might wonder why then I only rated it as 3 stars. The problem is it's because of a feature that's not highlighted in the product description. That feature is called a geofence. It maps an area roughly 1/8 mile around your home. If you exit your home, lock your door, and don't leave the 1/8 mile geofence barrier, the touch feature is disabled. Took me awhile to figure this out; I had emailed support after the install, and I must say the support people were excellent, they just didn't have a solution to my problem. I asked if the geofence could be modified or disabled, and the answer is no.
Let's say you take the dogs out for a walk and lock the door. When you come back, you will not be able to touch the lock to open. It's back to the keys (or keycard). Going to visit with the neighbor? Same thing - no touch entry.
I understand their logic here. It's about security. If the product was not geofenced, if you left your house but were within bluetooth range of the lock, theoretically anyone could walk up, touch the lock, and the door would open.
The lock operation gets complicated when you're working with more than 1 person. My wife also has the app on her phone. I leave the house leaving the door unlocked and go to the store. In the interim, she locks the door. If I look at my app, it gives the status as unlocked. I come home, thinking it's unlocked, and it's locked. Thing is, the once you're out of bluetooth range, the app will not update lock status. I'd have to look at my phone walking up to the door to see if the door was locked or unlocked.
Given our lifestyle, the Level Touch proved to be more of an annoyance than an assistance. Now, this might not be the same for you. I can see if you were leaving to go to work for the day, and coming back home at night, this would work for you. I also see that this product works with Homekit; however, we are Android, not Apple users. I was told by support that they are working on more features, but at this point, it's no help to me. What I am going to do is uninstall the lock and move it to a less used door in the house.
In its defense, I will state that the mechanics and finish of the product are high quality. It's not the mechanism that I have fault with, it's the software preventing me from using it for it's intended purpose. I'll be looking to see if they're able to update the app to be more accommodating to my needs.

Ninja hits the mark again
on June 16, 2021
Posted by: ferrari

Right out of the box, the Ninja Pro has been a pleasant experience. You can immediately feel the weight and solid construction behind it. This is way above previous smoothie makers I've owned & discarded. That's not to say that it's just for smoothies, as you can see from the attached photo the thickness and sharpness of the blades allow it to easily slice through the toughest of fruits & vegetables you can throw at it as well as pulverizing ice.
You might infer from the other photo that I have a fondness for making malts. If you've never used malt before, it never really dissolves in liquid, acting more like the bean specks in vanilla bean ice cream. With my previous mixers, you could always see a slight accumulation of the malt on the walls of the container. I always needed to be careful not to dump the malt in first, or else once it got wet, I'd get a clump of it below the blades, making it difficult to clean. No such problem with the Ninja, it dispersed the malt particles nicely throughout the drink.
This probably has something to do with how it operates. While it has an on/off button, there is also a program mode for smoothie (and one for ice.) Using the smoothie program, the timer sets for a minute, then it goes through a series of long & short pulses that allow still solid material to settle so the blades get a better shot at cutting. With other blenders solids might remain in suspension above the blade, or you'd have to keep pulsing manually.
The unit comes with two separate containers with lids (dishwasher safe along with the blade section) making it handy for those mornings when yesterday's dishes are still in the sink.
This is my fourth Ninja product (Foodi, Air Fry Oven, upright vacuum) and all have performed admirably. I still can't believe how quickly the Air Fry toaster oven heats up - another great morning helper!
The Ninja is a solid choice for the price in this market - highly recommend.

HP quality & good looks at a reasonable price

Using this to replace a first generation LED screen with VGA input, and the difference is outstanding - a really nice upgrade. My first impression after an easy setup (no tools) was the sleek, simplistic design. The super thin frame, silver color, and stand design make it the highlight of the desktop. First monitor I've owned that I actually want to leave a screensaver running on! Having it cycle through collective family photos, the contrast is great, colors bright and vivid.
In use, the blue light filter & "Eye Ease" technology work to reduce strain over long sessions. I had found myself using "dark themes" to reduce over saturation, but have now changed back to enjoy the crisp look without having to endure tired eyes. There does seem to be a recognizable difference.
I have this connected to an older desktop, but since it does have 2 HDMI ports, I connected the laptop to do some streaming/gaming, and the performance was excellent. If there is a downside to this monitor, it's the lack of an HDMI pass-through for audio.
All in all, the good looks, excellent performance, and easy on the eyes technology make this a solid choice without breaking the bank.

Dyson's latest purifiers combine intelligent sensing with an advanced filtration system. Three phases of purification sit within a fully sealed filtration and airflow system. So what goes inside, stays inside. A solid-state formaldehyde sensor and a unique catalytic filter detect and continuously destroy formaldehyde¹, an activated carbon filter removes gases and odors and a HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns in size. Then powerful Air Multiplier technology purifies, heats the whole room and cools you.²

The best I've experienced
on May 10, 2021
Posted by: ferrari
from New Jersey, USA
As a dog/cat owner with allergies, I've always been interested in air cleaner/filter technologies. Unfortunately, most of the products I've tried have ended up on the trash heap for either not working as described, too noisy, or the product not supported/parts/filters not available. Now, along comes Dyson.
I'm not going to quote all the product specs and features, if you're reading this, I'm sure you've checked them already. Instead, I'll talk about my experiences over the past 5 days with it.
I've attached two graphs from the Dyson app. As we're currently in the midst of a banner pollen season, I first set this up in the bedroom, as I've been having congestion problems at night. It was running in Auto mode for about 2 hours, I had stepped out for groceries when my wife called and said the Dyson had gone into high speed mode by itself. If you look at the first graph, that's represented by the tall spike. After speaking with my wife, I found that my two dogs had been tussling in the room throwing out their hair & dander. The Dyson detected that and started cleanup.
There's a second smaller spike on that first graph, that happened when my daughter started polishing her nails 50 feet away in another room.
The nice thing is with these two events, you can zero in to see what caused the event. The Dyson reported that the first was for particulate matter (dog dander), and the second was for VOC, or volatile organic compound (nail polish.) So that was my first day using the Dyson - two problems, both handled.
The second graph is from 2 days later. I had moved the unit down to our tamily room, and was watching TV when I noticed the Dyson had gone into high speed mode again. Took me a few moments to realize that I had just been outside mowing the lawn, and using a leaf blower to blow a load of tree pollen off the patio. When I was finished, I had come in through the patio door, I'm sure dragging in a bunch of pollen that was still suspended in the air. When I checked into the details on the app, the Dyson was responding to particulate matter (pollen).
I'm extremely pleased with the performance of this unit so far; this is the first time that I can actually say that I feel a difference in the environment after running it for the past week.
If I had a complaint, it would be that given the initial purchase cost, it would've been nice to offer a more substantial warranty, say 5 years. That, and I really don't see the need to include a heater function, deleting that might lower the cost.

Audiophile Quality at a Bargain Price
on April 9, 2021
Posted by: ferrari
from New Jersey, USA
I can't say how pleased I am with these headphones. Especially since my expectations were minimal given you're talking about the sub $100 price range.
The experience was pleasant right out of the box. Nice storage case, drawstring purse for storing the charging & auxiliary input cords, and easy on the brain instructions to get you up & going. Prior to receiving these, I had researched the Soundcore app, and downloaded it, recognizing the additional enhancements it adds to operation.
There were no issues at all connecting to my phone (Samsung S20), TV (Samsung series 8), or to a bluetooth transmitter attached to my high end audio system (pictured below.)
The Soundcore app works very well to fine tune your music preferences. The noise cancellation has multiple settings. There is a transparency mode that allows you to "stay aware of your surroundings by allowing ambient sounds in", i.e. human speech, or full cancellation which has 3 submodes - transport - for engine & road noise, indoor - for spaces such as a coffee shop, or outdoor which reduces ambient city type sounds.
There are also customizable equalizer settings, or 8 different presets such as bass booster, reducer, podcast, etc. I personally found the acoustic setting to be the best compromise for most types of music.
There is also "Superior Sleep" function which you can mix a variety of white noise sounds, or combine them. I had birds chirping during a rainstorm with a freight train going by! Nice added feature.
As far as the sound quality, I included a photo of my vinyl system just to show I'm serious about my music. I have a set of bluetooth headphones that cost 5X the price of these. And yes, maybe it's real instead of faux leather, and the use of high quality metal is a little more liberal, but truth be told, I'd be very hard pressed to tell which set I was listening to. The bonus is I can take these anywhere without the worry that I'd be losing half a weeks salary if I misplaced them.
I've had very good experiences with this company. I first bought an Anker charging stand for my phone at less than half the price of an OEM unit. They also have a corporate offshoot, Eufy, that deals in surveillance cams and other devices, I have these on my home's exterior, and like these headphones, they outperform competitors far above their price range.
If you're in the market for a set of bluetooth headphones, these are hard to pass by.

Premium feel & results

Being a long time beard wearer, I must've gone through a dozen or more of these trimmers; all of which have fallen under the $50 price range. This is a premium trimmer, and it feels like it. It has a beautiful tactile feel to the hand, and the finish is top notch.
As for the cut, it has the power to breeze through the toughest beard without a snag or stall - very precise. The best way I can describe it is that using it, it sounds and feels like a barber's tool; very unlike the majority of products I've used in the past that are mostly plastic.
If there is one place it falls short, it's in trying to trim your neck below the beard line - it will leave a bit more stubble than other trimmers I've owned in the past.

Barista-quality performance with a new intuitive interface that provides all the information you need to create café quality coffee at home. The built-in grinder delivers the right amount of ground coffee on demand, for full flavor. With a 3 second heat up time and precise espresso extraction, you go from bean to cup, faster than ever before.

What is the difference with the PRO model

As I understand it, no pressure gauge - it's replaced by a countdown timer so you time your shot for 20-30 seconds. It has the Barista Pro grinder, with 30 settings as opposed to 18. But I would say the big one is - 3 second warmup time. That's better than instant coffee.

Does this work with an Orbi AC3000 wifi router? My ring does not work without some serious modifications that I do not want to apply.

If you look at my review, I have the indoor unit sitting on my kitchen counter along with my Orbi satellite. They coexist perfectly. I understand your concern, this past week I had fits trying to set up an Epson scanner that refused to cooperate with the Orbi. But no problem with the Eufy - and I also have their floodlight cam.

Philips 3200 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine w/ LatteGo, Black

Can it do cold drinks as well as hot? And what is the maximum volume it can brew? Can it brew a whole pot of coffee?

No, it doesn't do cold. No, no whole pots - this is only for single drinks.

Philips 3200 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine w/ LatteGo, Black

is that machine automatic?

It's what they call a super automatic. This one goes a notch further by brewing "one touch" latte. It grinds, brews, and foams milk at the touch of a button - well, actually two touches once you set it up.

Secure detailed proof of vehicular incidents with this Owlcam smart dual dash camera. The 1440p outside-facing and 720p inside-facing cameras capture high-definition video, and 4G LTE connectivity enables instant video alerts and remote access to live and recorded footage via smartphone. This Owlcam smart dual dash camera supports voice commands for hands-free operation.

What is in the box? And is it possible to connect the Owl dashcam to a power bank and not to the OBD?

No other connectors are included. I imagine you'd have to strip the connector and attach it to both ignition on/ ignition off leads if you wanted to do that.
