Stylish mouse with a unique design
on July 6, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
The Alienware Tri-mode mouse is both unique and comfortable.
It handles like a dream, easily gliding across my desktop. I have no complaints whatsoever with its performance.
Setting it up was a little tricky.
First, it took several driver installs, reinstalls, and reboots for the Alienware Command Center to recognize the mouse.
Second, you can only adjust the lighting effects and button functions while in 2.4 ghz, dongle, mode. You can’t access any of these functions while connected via Bluetooth. The lighting seems to persist when you switch between modes, but my macro keys didn’t seem to carry over from dongle to Bluetooth mode.
The mouse is designed to be ambidextrous. It’s shaped so that it fits the hand the same way no matter which hand you use. The side buttons are also positioned on both sides. I like how the side buttons are slightly separated with a small gap between them. This makes it easier to differentiate them by touch.
The charging cable is one of the most unique things I’ve ever seen.
First, the cable has an optional magnetic adapter that plugs into your mouse. This connects quite securely, but it pulls free easily when you want it to.
And second, the other half of the cable’s magnetic adapter (the part that attaches to the cable) has a 2nd USB-C slot for storing the dongle on it. This is kinda cool (but a little weird).
The dongle, magnetic adapter parts, and a tool for removing the adapter from the mouse all come in a little plastic case that doesn’t open the way that you’d expect it to (pry up on the plastic lip that sits closest to the edge of the box).
It should be noted that the 2.4 ghz dongle is USB-C only.
The cable is a nice length and is braided with a soft, fabric material.
I really quite like this mouse, and I recommend it for anyone looking for a premium gaming mouse.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great for an all-in-one computer
on June 21, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
This is something of a "niche" product, but it fit my needs very well.
My all in one computer's ports are all very poorly placed. Plugging in flash drives requires reaching around and blindly stabbing at the back of the machine.
I got this to add a little height to my machine, and to add some more accessible ports to the front of the machine.
It serves this purpose very well.
The stand appears to be well constructed. I'm not sure if it's truly metal (feels too warm to be aluminum), but it seems quite sturdy. The height is perfect for my needs. It has four rubber feet to ensure a stable grip and to prevent it from scratching one's desk. The base is "just" deep enough to fit my all in one's stand. The cable length is adequate for plugging into a monitor or all in one, but it's far too short to plug into a tower on the floor. And finally, the port selection is great for my needs.
I no longer have to reach around just to plug in a flash drive or SD card, and I don't have extraneous cables or dongles hanging off my machine.
I would recommend this for anyone looking to add some more accessible ports to a monitor or all in one computer.

Great lights for some, but not for everyone
on May 30, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
These lights look like they'd be great for a lot of people. But unfortunately, they failed to really fit my needs.
Let me start by saying what I did like about these lights.
The light panels are a good size, and they seem very well constructed. The panels are thin and extremely bright. As a lightsource, I'd rate these 10 out of 10.
The app seems fairly intuitive, and I really appreciate all of the various options for lighting effects.
Now, what I didn't like about these lights, and the reason that they didn't work for my needs . . .
In order to install these lights, you need to watch an installation video. No, these are not wired directly into your home, but there is still a fairly involved video explaining how to setup these lights.
Each individual light panel is adhered to your wall using a 3M style adhesive.
This caught me by surprise. I'd assumed that the lights connected to each other somehow, and I figured that there would be multiple options for mounting these to a wall as a whole (i.e. screw brackets).
The problems with having adhesive on the back of each individual panel are that:
A. Your wall must be fairly smooth for the adhesive to bond.
B. Once you've decided on a pattern and placement, you're committed to it. You won't be able to reposition or experiment with different layouts.
To their credit, the adhesive is supposed to remove cleanly. You're on your own for figuring out how to get the panels back up after removing them though.
In my case, most of my walls are heavily textured. I wasn't able to use these in the room that I'd initially intended.
This was highly disappointing.
Personally, I also thought that the installation was a little too involved for something that's basically a lamp. A very thin, ultra modern, and highly customizable lamp, . . . but a lamp all the same.
I can totally see this being a great light feature for a lot of people. If you have smooth walls, and you're really sold on a particular design and placement, then these will probably be perfect for you.
In my case, I regret having gotten these as they really don't work for my needs.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Steelcase Series 1 chair has a LiveBack flexor system in the backrest which conforms to your body and moves with you to support the spine as you change postures. The tilt mechanism is synchronized; the seat and back work in harmony with each other, keeping the body securely supported in the chair and feet firmly planted on the floor so you can recline without leaving your optimal zone for seeing and reaching your work. Feature set includes an adjustable seat depth, fully adjustable arms, adjustable lumbar, pneumatic seat height adjustment, recline tension adjustment (weight activated with adjustment and lock), flexing back with mesh upholstery, upholstered seat and wheels for hard flooring. The seat features strong yet pliable foam which conforms to the body and creates pressure-free comfort. Flexible seat edge offers a bit of bend, right where you need it – relieving pressure points under your thighs. This chair will arrive unassembled and require some assembly and is covered by a 12-year warranty.

Fairly comfortable chair for office work
on May 26, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
As far as mid-back chairs go, this one is quite comfortable.
Setup was quick and easy. I had the chair unboxed and fully assembled in about five minutes.
The chair is well constructed and offers lots of options for "tweaking" it to your personal comfort.
The chair height can be adjusted (of course), the seat depth can be adjusted, the arm height can be adjusted, the tops of the arms can be moved and swiveled to your personal taste, and the lumbar support can be adjusted.
My only complaint about the adjustment options is the tops of the arms. While you can move them in or out, and you can angle them to your heart's content, you can't lock them into position. I constantly found myself shifting them out of position by accident. This was a little annoying.
I'm also not keen on the chair's color. In person, it's a light grey and a VERY light grey. I prefer darker finishes as they don't show wear quite so easily. I'll be curious to see how this chair looks in another year or two.
Despite the chair's claims that it slides easily on both hard floors and carpeting, I found the casters to be fairly stiff and unmoving on carpeting.
Despite these issues, the chair itself is quite comfortable. I'm working from home now, and I can easily sit my entire shift without discomfort in this chair.
It's a definite step up from the task chair that I had been using.

Surprisingly comfortable mouse
on May 11, 2022

This is a very comfortable mouse. It takes a little getting used to the different hand position (I kept accidentally squeezing the entire mouse every time I went to left-click - resulting in me hitting the back button by accident). Once I got used to it though, I really came to appreciate the different orientation.
It really is a lot more comfortable to use than a regular mouse.
The mouse connects via either Bluetooth or a dongle. If connecting via Bluetooth, you can switch between up to three devices with a single button press. I have this paired with both my Windows tablet and my Android TV.
(For anyone looking for the dongle, it's stashed inside of the mouse itself).
The mouse tracks beautifully on a mouse pad, but (like most laser mice) it struggled on my glass desktop.
Given its orientation, it should be noted that this mouse does take up more room than a regular mouse. This detracts from its portability some.
I really like this mouse a lot, and I'd strongly recommend it for anyone who has been experiencing any kind of wrist pain.

Great little headphones
on May 7, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
from Elgin, IL
How Often Used:3-5 times a week
These are great little headphones. They're small, lightweight, comfortable in the ear, and extremely portable.
I had one little issue when I first got these. They were shipped with little plastic stickers over the charging contacts. I plugged these in to charge overnight, but the plastic stickers prevented them from charging.
The sound quality isn't perfect. I found that these earbuds had a little too much bass, and the sound was somewhat "muddy" compared to other earbuds that I've used. These aren't marketed as studio headphones though, and the sound was certainly adequate for listening to music and watching videos.
The earbuds paired with my windows laptop without any issues whatsoever. I was pleasantly surprised that the controls (play, pause, and skip track) all worked fine on Windows as well as Android.
The case doesn't hold a charge, so you'll need to plug these (and the case) in to recharge them when they run out of juice. The charger that they came with is rather curious. It's a short USB type A to micro USB connector. The USB type A end has exposed contacts, so it can be plugged in either direction. I found it a little strange that they didn't use USB type C for the opposite side.
I'm quite pleased with these earbuds and would recommend them for anyone looking for a budget, wireless solution.

Great sound, clear calls
on February 12, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
from Elgin, IL
I got this primarily for use as a USB hub. My laptop only has two USB-C ports, and I needed at least a couple USB-A ports for hooking up peripherals (portable scanner, computer mouse, etc. . . .).
The speakerphone aspect was more of a "happy bonus" for me. I figured that my built-in mic and speakers were perfectly adequate for conference calls.
I quickly changed my opinion after hearing the speaker in action. This thing has fantastic sound.
The people on the other end of my call even commented on how clear and sharp my audio was.
The "buttons" take a little bit of getting used to. They aren't buttons so much as raised, capacitive icons. They don't "click" like you'd expect, and accidental presses happen very easily.
The speaker comes with a little carrying bag to keep it clean. I think this was a very nice touch.
The cable length is adequate for most use cases. I wouldn't want it to be any shorter, but it wouldn't hurt if it were maybe six inches longer to better sit in the middle of a conference room table. There is a recessed area for storing the cable on the bottom of the speaker.
It only has two USB-A ports. Again, this is adequate for most use cases. Given the lack of ports on my laptop, I wouldn't have minded four (for scanner, mouse, wireless keyboard, and external hard drive). 2 is perfectly adequate for most use cases though.
It has a full-size HDMI port for hooking up an external display (again, great if you're using your laptop as a desktop replacement while traveling).
This device is great if you find yourself frequently traveling for work. It's both compact and loaded with features.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great little device that works quite well.
on January 26, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast

This is a great little humidifier. Despite its small size, it holds a considerable amount of water. I was also really impressed by how long it lasted on a single tank. Set at about half power, it lasted an entire day and did an admirable job keeping my living room from being too dry.
A couple minor issues I had with it:
First, it needs to be at least 2 feet off the floor for the air intake to work properly. I wasn't expecting this and had to clear an end table to get it elevated high enough.
Second, the piece on the top that directs the stream of moisture is pointed backward. This was sending damp air right at my wall and leaving a wet spot. This piece flips around easily enough (though it won't sit perfectly flush if you flip it), but it's bizarre that they designed it this way in the first place.
These are minor complaints though. The device functions beautifully and is fairly aesthetic to boot.
All in all, I'm very happy with this device.

Cooks well but has some foibles
on January 22, 2022
Posted by: TechEnthusiast
from Elgin, IL
Pros:
Cooked food thoroughly
Cooked food quickly
Large cooking area
Easy to set time and temperature
Easy to switch between functions
Cons:
Sear pan is finicky to get in and out sometimes
Takes forever to cool / unclear if leaving it on keeps the heat on after it's done cooking or not
Door handle position is odd
We used this air fryer to cook a frozen pizza, air fry potato wedges, and bake a crostata prior to this review.
It did a great job of cooking a frozen pizza. Figuring out the cooking time was a little tricky (the instructions note that you need to adjust cooking times figuring that it would cook 30-50% faster than the time provided on the pizza’s instructions. In our experience, it cooked the pizza around 40% faster.
Air frying the potato wedges went very smoothly. The air fry basket is quite large, and the potatoes ended up cooking faster than the time listed on the included chart.
The crostata went “mostly” okay. Getting the sear plate out was a little tricky, and we ended up breaking the crostata up a little getting it into the oven (20/20 hindsight, we should have removed the sear plate completely prior to putting the crostata onto it. Putting it onto the sear plate as the plate was partially out was a bad idea).
My only other complaint about this device is that it’s unclear what is happening once it finishes cooking. Once it’s done cooking, the device beeps and displays the word “Hot.” The oven remains hot for a long time after finishing, and it’s unclear if the heat is still actively turned on or not. I ended up hitting the power button after a bit in an effort to force it to cool off (and the word “Hot” continued to display even after hitting the power button, and the unit remained hot to the touch). I ended up unplugging it to be safe. This was a little weird.

Works well enough, wish it held more water
on December 30, 2021
Posted by: TechEnthusiast

I like this water flosser well enough, but there are some design choices that could have been improved.
I like that it's wireless and portable, but it's a little big and awkward. You can't really spray from the back of the bottom row of teeth since you can't hold this unit upside down. A longer, flexible hose would have been welcome for this.
While it's big and awkward, it doesn't seem to hold that much water. I found that I had to refill it at least once or twice while trying to get a thorough cleaning.
This is going to sound petty, but it's a really ugly shade of green. It's kind of a drab, olive color. I would have preferred solid black or maybe gray.
Despite these complaints, it appears to work well enough. I was able to clean between my teeth quite well with this.

Can you use with comcast.

Yes. I'm using it with Comcast myself.

You plug the Ethernet cable from your modem to the Orbi router the same as you would any other router. The big difference between the Orbi and other routers is that it comes with a separate satellite unit to extend your wireless range. The satellite unit hooks up to the router wirelessly. Installation and pairing takes about ten - fifteen minutes to complete.

So if it comes with two, I'm assuming you have one that internet is linked to by cable and the other is used as a extender? Or do you have to have both units hooked to cable?

The router portion is connected to your modem via an Ethernet cable, but the satellite / extender unit links up to the router wirelessly. The only wire that you need to have connected to the extender is the power cord.

Nothing puts a vacuum to the test quite like a home with pets. That's why the BISSELL® Pet Hair Eraser® was developed from the ground up by pet parents for pet parents. Whether it's shedding season for your dog or your cat tracks kitty litter all over the house, this revolutionary vacuum is designed to make cleaning up after pets and the people who love them a breeze—from beginning to end. Say goodbye to hair wrap with its Tangle-Free Brush Roll, remove embedded hair everywhere with specialized pet tools, help capture allergens and eliminate odors with the SmartSeal™ Allergen System, and when you're finished cleaning, enjoy a hands-free tank empty with our patented Cyclonic Spooling System™.BR>

How load is it? I've used an Oreck XL upright and a Eureka Mighty Mite and would hope it's no louder as those. I prefer bagged vacuums but want to try the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser because of its claims of not getting hair tangled on the roller.

I haven't tried the two vacuums that you mentioned, but I can say that I was surprised that this vacuum wasn't terribly loud.

Given it's size and the number of vents coming out of it, I expected it to be deafening. Upon turning it on, I was surprised by just how mild the sound was. It'll definitely drown out a television or radio some, but you'll still be able to hear people talking over it.
