I'll try to condense my thoughts as much as possible:
If you don't yet have a Nintendo 3DS, this is the version you want. If you already have an original 3DS this will be a worthy upgrade just on the merits of the larger screen size. If you already have a non-New 3DS XL then this might be a worthwhile upgrade if you love the 3D feature and have games that benefit from the additional analog nub such as Majora's Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4.
I personally love the 3D effect and that alone was worth the upgrade to me personally. However, the more powerful processor and quicker downloads have quickly made themselves worth the price to upgrade.
Exclusive games alone are not worth the upgrade - Xenoblade Chronicles is excellent but the 3DS version isn't as good as the Wii original, which is also available to download to the Wii U for a cheaper price. SNES games are nice to have portable and a great bonus if you don't have a 3DS yet, but also not quite worth the upgrade in my opinion since there's no word yet about transferring purchases to the new system.
All in all this is a truly excellent console. However, your mileage may vary depending on the factors I mentioned above. I'm a true fan of video games and don't play into console biases so if you have any more detailed questions please let me know. I'll be happy to reply ASAP.

Teenage mega-idol Rise Kujikawa has returned to the city to restart her show business career. The Persona series is known for having great music thanks to composer extraordinaire Shoji Meguro, so to actually have an entire game based on this music is a pleasant surprise. Even better is that the game itself is actually good, there's a decent story (even if it is distracting to hear different voice actors for some of the major characters), and the soundtrack included with this edition is a wonderful bonus.
It is absolutely worth getting this edition if you can, but even if not the game itself is still well worth your time and attention.

I've been a big fan of Death Cab for Cutie since "Plans" hit it big, but "Transatlanticism" is my favorite. "Kintsugi" definitely doesn't reach that height, but it's still a good album in its own right. Lyrics are unmistakeably Ben Gibbard's, and the pain of loss and separation are palpable through the words and delivery, though the music feels a little too soft and upbeat to give them any fangs.
Recommended for previous fans, especially if the last album "Codes and Keys" was a disappointment.

I'm a relatively new fan of RED, only actually listening to them for the first time about a year ago when their first 3 albums were packaged together as an anthology. I was immediately hooked; the strong riffs, occasional string arrangements, and powerful vocals were enough to draw me in and make me an instant fan. One of the things that I really appreciated about this group is that even though it's a Christian rock group they keep their lyrics away from the annoying, mushy, generic "Jesus rock" lyrics a lot of other bands use; it's all about real struggles and finding a way through. It's the kind of songwriting anyone can listen to and appreciate just as much, if not even more, than the target Christian market.
Also, I see a lot of people compare their sound to Chevelle, but I think they sound a lot more like Breaking Benjamin; if Breaking Benjamin and Muse had a baby and made Yellowcard the Godfather, this would be that child.
As for this album itself, there are plenty of great riffs and string arrangements that drew me to the band in the first place. That special spark that was largely missing from the fairly generic "Release the Panic" is back in full force here. If you've listened to RED before and enjoyed what they bring to the table, then this is an easy recommendation. If you've never listened to them before but like the first two bands I mentioned before, then you'll probably enjoy this.

Underappreciated Studio Ghibli classic

When you think of Studio Ghibli, Japanese animation studio extraordinaire, Pom Poko is not one of the movies that normally comes to mind. However, I personally think it's one of the best movies that the studio has produced.
It was directed by Isao Takahata, known more recently for the gorgeously animated Tale of the Princess Kaguya, who unfortunately doesn't seem to get as much attention as his more popular contemporary Hayao Miyazaki.
The movie itself is decidedly Japanese, with many cultural and semi-mythological references that will go unnoticed. Fortunately that doesn't make a difference as far as enjoying the movie itself, a well-told story of nature vs. man, with an ultimately satisfying outcome. Some plot twists along the way keep the story moving in an interesting way, and the voice acting and dialog are superb, as is standard with Disney-released Studio Ghibli films. The visuals are magnificent as well; well worth buying the Blu-Ray over the DVD format to appreciate the hand drawn artwork in all its glory.
